Allod's Online & Global Agenda BETA Review

I've been playing Allod's Online quite a bit, along with Global Agenda. I'm gonna throw out my opinion real quick on both.

First Allod's Online. It looks and feels like a combination between World of Warcraft & Warhammer Online. The graphics on max settings are better than both WoW & WAR which is awesome. The draw distance is really impressive, for backgrounds its really far, just as far as WoW, for NPC's its decent length. You choose a faction (WoW-esque) and pick a race. The humans are just regular humans, elves, giberlings are alright, but the truely awesome races are the Arisen, by far the coolest race in any MMO I've ever played (over 20). The orcs are also nice mostly because of their size and their armor sets look great (you can see their armor set while creating a character - one of my fav. parts). The tutorials for both sides are amazing, fun, and interactive. Once done you enter another zone, both sides are once again well done. The city on the Empire side is beautiful. The sound/music is great too, the animations are nice... you will come across some gameplay glitches, some graphical glitches here and there but nothing game threatening or that cannot be fixed. Theres an auction house, mail system, theres PvP, sub classes feel pretty unique (besides the opposing faction), some well done emotes too. The game is the best F2P MMO I've ever played and honestly I think its better than most pay to play MMO's. It's not better than WoW, but I'd rather play it over WAR/LotRO/FFXI among others.

I Don't Like

-Theres a ton of classes (26?) but honestly you can cut that in half pretty much both sides have mirror image classes almost, people will argue with it, but honestly, no.

-Not enough UI changing options. (Still in CLOSED beta though)

-NEEDS MOUNTS, way too much walking, this game is huge!

Closed BETA #4 Review: 9/10

Global Agenda.  Log in, create your character. You notice the graphics are great (on max for me), my character looks awesome. Pick a class, all of the classes LOOK great while picking them ans also in-game. Were in-game now, this game doesn't really feel like an MMO. Why? There are instances like in Champions Online and multiple other MMO's... I hate this. As far as I know right now theres only 1 city? Tell me if I'm wrong, but if theres only 1 city, thats a HUGE bummer. You can explore the whole "city" in about 3 minutes, theres really only some vendors, auction house, and dyes. The armor sets/weapons look great. Now for ACTUAL gameplay the best part. You queue up for either a PvE or PvP instance, theres more maps depending on your level. PvE is straight forward, semi-decent AI killing with a boss at the end, kinda fun, not really. PvP is where its at. You have a melee weapon, gun, jetpack, and you get to pick 2 off hand things depending on your class (grenades, mines, turret), honestly there aren't too many options. Pick your loadout, capture some bases, kill enemies, defend or attack, it is pretty fun. Definitely not worth a monthly payment, it feels like a GOOD CrimCraft. CrimeCraft was an absolutely terrible excuse for a game let alone an MMO, let's not talk about it. The jetpack fuel is also used as your infinite ammo, so you have to use the jetpack/shooting sparingly which is pretty cool, adds a little strategy in there. The community is alright, kinda small for now, it'll grow. Overall the game is worth buying but not payhing month to month for if your into FPS RPG's and you like MMO's/big multiplayer matches. I need to get further into this game, I'd like to see a lot more. I bought the game so I guess I will soon.

Closed BETA #4 Review: 7/10

I Don't Like

-You have to pay monthly for the "better" things.

-Instances instead of one big world, 1 city (I think)

having played Allods Online i like this review, it is pretty accurate and i entirely agree with the number of classes being a tad over the top!

haven't played Global Agenda but upon reading a preview in the latest PC Gamer magazine where they say it will only take 20hours to max lvl your character im not sure i will bother trying the game out.  Also as you pointed out, it is free but if you want the better things you need to pay for it, can i just point out that Tabula Rasa went down this route and look what happened to that game, not enough people paid for the 'extras' and shut down.  While i admit that this may not happen with GA its a possibility that needs to be taken into account.

    Excellent review

I however do not agree that Allods has to many classes. When it basically has only 7

Paladin, Warrior, Scout, Healer, Sorcerer, Psionists, Warden.

With slight adjustment based on race (one special power)

    As for Global Agenda.

I agree. Its more or less TF2 like game. With some persistant progression.

Perhaps worth purchase , but without sub

I pre-ordered Global Agenda the other day and have been playing in the beta, it's tons of fun.... my only concern is how they handle the alliance vs. alliance battles, and character progression... that will decide if I pay the monthly fee. Either way, the "free" part is fun.

And Allods is easily the best free game I've ever played. It's definitely going to stay on my computer, unlike most other free games which get uninstalled within an hour.

Allods has come out of nowhere and will probably be the next big thing. Its enough like wow to be familiar, yet at the same time it adds all kinds of new and interesting features to make it different from anything else out there.

The space combat is amazing-being able to craft and fully crew your ship with all your friends and go off and pvp or pve in it. The treasure room is another very interesting idea, once you do a raid or explore an Allod, your ships treasure room fills up. Other players can attack your ship, come onboard and then steal it. An unusual take on full loot PVP where the loot actually has meaning and people will go out of their way to defend it. If your ship gets destroyed, you lose it. When it takes damage, you can see debris appearing all over.

From what I understand theyre going the way of Blackrock Mountain from wow for their raids, as in its contested and youll be running into enemy players outside it. other than that theyve put in old familiar open world pvp with twists of warhammer and daoc territory control. Hard to believe its free to play considering it has more polish, content and fun than most of the AAA titles of the last few years. All depends on how bad the cash shop is I suppose.

Global Agenda is great fun, but not really what id call an MMO as such. Not to say its a bad game or anything, but theyve shot themselves in the foot by even mentioning the word mmo. Hopefully we'll see more of these types of rpg shooters come along.

We must not be playing the Same game.

I find Allods to be complete total crap. Movement stinks, story stinks, combat is bad at best, and Graphics? I don't know what you’re looking at. WoW and WAR? Not even close. I downloaded the game and played due to people like you hyping it up. Haven't  been more disappointed in a long time. As for Global Agenda, I won't try just because same people are hyping that.

This is my opinion, I expect to be flamed for my opinion and will make no further comments on the subject. Enjoy

I disagree. The movement is so far from Silky Smooth. It looks like camera movement, not Character Movement, not to mention instead of walking or running, it looks like they are prancing.

It's not the controls. They are standard controls.

No. I don't like the game, There are allot of games out there that I don't care for, but to claim that the game is compeered to a Polished game like WOW, {That I do not Play} That statement is just a total Lie. It isn’t even close. Runes of Magic Blows this game out of the water, and I consider that it be just an OK game.

Everyone likes their own thing, and I get that. I just can’t stand when some one hypes a game with lies. I did not like this game. True, and would never have even commented on it if it didn't tick me off with such a bogus review

    For me,

    Graphics 5/10

    Controls 8/10

    Story 4/10

    Game play 4/10

    Movement 3/10

There is NOTHING special about this game what so ever, and to hype it like it is, is a bold face lie. It is a mediocre game that is a clone of every other WOW want-a-be game out there.

WOW ! 9/10 for ALLODS? are you serious?

The graphics are the lowest graphics you can get w/o getting into jagged edges and pixels,NO it is not WOW-WAR they are much lower end.

I lasted about 3 days in ALLODS then the generic game play got me bored,i had enough, deleted game.I almost deleted the game in the first few minutes because the graphics were so low end,i couldn't believe this was hyped to be the best Russian game, man they are like in the stone ages still for game production.

    GA

I never played it but it sounds exactly like a jetpack game we had about 8-10 years ago that failed big time. You cannot have a PVP game with only 3 weapons lol,and sorry to the DF fans but they only use about 3 forms of combat as well[ranged magic/ranged arrows and melee swipe /swipe].You need maps designed perfectly for thoughtful PVP you need all sorts of weapons with multiple  functions, primary and secondary fire modes, combo weapons,melee/mid range and long range, with at least 2-3 options for each. From the way the OP describes this game ,it sounds extremely rushed with very few options for game play and thought, just something  to jetpack around, sort of like logging into AION to fly around, that sort of thing does not impress me,i look to game play first, actually that is 90% of what i look for.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Having been a Alpha tester of Global Agenda since november 2007,i sorta burned myself out on the game. However,it is pretty good, maybe not worth the sub....but its definently Fun.

Um what?  Tell that to TF2, CoD, pretty much all the big multiplayer shooters.  GA has just as many weapon options as most online shooters.  Though maybe you were confused and thought GA was a MMO which I can understand since they try to advertise it as such.

I give allods a solid 7/10. Its great for f2p and the only game of this type that has better graphics is ddo. The game play really is a cross between WoW and War. And the graphics are pretty different. The characters and buildings have that cartoonish steampunk thing going on while the terrain and world go for a more realistic approach.

Can't help looking at global agenda and think CoD with more social features.

Yeah weird, we aren't playing the same game.  Allods completely has outdone War and WoW in the graphics department.  I can only suggest you check your graphics card drivers, maybe they need updated?

I mean your statement about movement and graphics is just... strange.  Neither makes any sense at all for anyone who has played beta.  It's clearly a nicely done mmo.  For those not in beta, check youtube for HD videos of Allods.  The graphics and movement is clearly visible.  No need for strange statements.

If you looking for a quality FTP mmo wait till Aika releases.

  • syklonissyklonis Member UncommonPosts: 33

Graphics bad in Allods, what are you smoking here?  Wow doesn't have hi-res textures on their characters..Which makes their stuff look blurry and a mess.   That and along with many p2p and f2p games.  They only wish they could have textures this nice on their characters.   I'm sick of the "well it's so everyone can run it on their systems" excuse!!  If you have a good art dept and good engine, you can make a great looking game!!

Look at this screen shot I took. That troll looks killer, even close up!!   Their character designs- along with many buildings and props really stand out.   Once you play the game and come to know its' mechanics, its not even close to being WOW at all!  Controls lacking, again..I don't see an issue here either.  Sure there are some issues but its a closed beta!!  Open beta fixes a lot of issues from reading up on the Russian forums.

Runes of Magic, come on..that game can't even compare to Allods!!  I'm shocked sometimes and gamers and the lack of really knowing a good game when it's in front of them!!  To each his own of course but I'm having a better time in this world than many p2p games in a long time...

I too was hyped to death with Allods, and like Wizardry has said, it ends being the same crap as always with all the WoW copies. Rush to max level, end-game focused, themepark gameplay, grind quests, etc etc....

I was specially hyped about developers stating "grand exploration" as one of the key features, and then discovering that the game is as linear as it can get, and to add to it the zones are tiny. Yeah you have Astral Ships at lv40, but until then is the same crap as always.

It WAS a quick review. The main thing would be it would get boring after about 2-3 months max. But then again I beat my xbox360 games for $60 dollars in about a month or less so you can't say its a "waste" of money either.

If I recall correctly, absolutely no part of Tabula Rasa was free except the part where it was about to shut down. =P

I was with the game since Closed Beta, I'm pretty sure there were no "extras" in TR and TR was a real MMOFPSRPG, whereas GA is more comparable to an instanced version of Planetside.

  • LifedrainLifedrain Member Posts: 13

Yea Tabula Rasa was a monthly fee, no extras. Its just the fact that people want to THINK they know what there talking about without actually playing the game at all.

You must be playing a different game.  The graphics comment alone sealed the deal, as the graphics are clearly improvements on WoW or WAR.

FYI I do play alot of Korean MMO's.  I use to play Aika last year when it was in OB in Korea.  The reason why I said it was "alright".  Is because like some MMO's.  It does what it sets out to do fairly well.  It just doesn't do anything that really stands out.  Like with the Prans. (The little companions that follow you around)  If you want to see a game that does that system right.  Play Prius Online.  Aika is fun at times, but it's fairly standard stuff as far as MMO's go.  Especially if you ever played an MMO even more so if you've played a Korean MMO before.  Where as Allods Online is using the same fantasy standard for most part.  It also has the inclusion of the Astral plane to make it stand out.  How many MMO's can you say have a system like that?  Where as with Aika's most noted features (Nation Wars and the Companion) I can think of quite a few MMO's with such features.

    In War - Victory.
    In Peace - Vigilance.
    In Death - Sacrifice.

  • MikehaMikeha Member EpicPosts: 9,196

Well the way you made your first statement made it sound like the game sucked but yet all you are saying is it does not do anything to stand out.  I am fine with that as long as the game is polished and  fun to play. Thats all I ever look for in a mmo. I focus on what the game does and not what is does not. These are the things that gets me about Allods. The game is boring, it has boring combat that feels clunky and unfinished, the sound effects are bottom of the barrel, the character models are ugly, generic and lack style. You see its not about Allods not having anything that stands out its the things that is has that turns me off.
