Yes, I was with Eve Online for a couple of years and still keep in touch with a lot of folks over there in Iceland as well as Campion (the former producer) and Booster (our PR guy in the early days). We had such a good time working together and I'm happy to say that the NetDevil crew is just as awesome to work with - and they don't make me eat fermented shark!

It's really nice to see it's the same Pann we had over at eve. You did an awesome job there. A community manager that really keeps in touch with the community is nice. Sounds crazy but most don't. I'm having lots of bad experience with that lately since i was dumb enough to buy EQ2. They work with this attitude: Take it or leave it! Answering questions or admitting faults is deflinatly not one of their strenghs wich costs em tons of costumers including me.
This will definitly compete and do better than the rest! I have played A LOT of mmorpgs and a lot of failed to use original concepts! Auto Assault has originality! Using car combat in mmorpg! It has a great idea too so many people will want to try it. Also, it is using wasd and fire controls with mouse, I believe. Which is cool, because you can actually control you car!
We've all killed rats, we've all done some form of tailoring, but not all of us have fired a rocket at a building then driven over the fallen roof to jump over someone trying to steal our wheels. But if someone out there has, I'd really think we should start hanging out, first round is on me. But seriously, if the game has a nice stable launch, I think it will have serious appeal to the mmo masses, and probably bring in a few need for speed junkies too. I think the big issues to address will be Lag, serious customization options, lag, pvp and lag. We want no lag, lotta custom parts/paint etc, and a nice balance of pvp. Not too much to ask..and if we get it, that will spell a winner. I'm ready to hang up my sword and grab a tire iron, please help me.
Serious customization and lag are very important. We already know the pvp will be in certain places. I want to look unique when I start the game. Not see the same looking car right next to me. Have a good customization place like City of Heros! I hope there is A LOT of weapons and things to craft so that are car can be unique. Also, different types of cars and paintjobs. I bet lag will be settled, after this is NcSoft lol. They can settle it.
Originally posted by NC_Pann Oh, the hamster jokes have been around a long, long time... We have some servers in-house, but those are for things like billing and whatnot. Game servers are usually spread out over several locations in order to optimize the connections for players. Visually, unless you are just a top-tier geek and know what you're looking at, it's just a bunch of racks with these things that kind of look like stereo receivers piled up. (Top-tier geeks will not identify me as someone who is not "one of them." As much as I love games, I am not particuarly tech-savvy.) I'm always worried that people who have never been to a game company before might be a little disappointed when they come to visit because I don't know what their expectations are. I'll often say, "This probably isn't the Wonka factory you were expecting..." but, to date, I don't think anyone has walked away going, "Well, that sucked! How boring!" Just out of curiosity, what do YOU think the NCsoft or NetDevil offices would be like?
I think the game is prob going to go great. especially for the twisted metal fans and all those people who love to play games that you get to use vehicals in a destructive way.
Is there going to be a beta or trial? I love the idea of the game and was really into the whole post-apocalyptic driving thing, and then I saw a video of the gameplay and got a little worried that it wasn't quite what I'd expected (being a sort of Interstate `82 type mmorpg). Still, I'd love to try it!
theres a thread about beta floating around somewhere that should answer your questions etruscan.
the game will undoubtly be able to compete with the other mmo's. mainly bc well people are always looking for a new game to play and are always intrested in new concepts
Feather, getting into the industry isn't as easy now as it used to be, but it's not impossible. Community coordinators need great communication skills - written and verbal - organization skills, patience, and a passion not only for games but for the people who play them. A good way to get started on the path is to become involved with message board communities and observe how the folks interact with one another. Watch to see how community coordinators interact with them, too. Becoming a staffer for a game site also gives you some great experience, though you probably won't get paid (or will be paid very little, depending on the site.) From there, it's just a matter of keeping an eye out for positions that are available in places you'd be willing to live and going for it.
Etruscan, yes, we'll have a beta test. The registration page should be up fairly soon and we'll start sending out invitations not long after that. I'm sorry that I can't give specific dates for either at this time, but you know the guys at MMORPG.com will announce it the second we spill the beans.

Perfect... that's all I need. Just show me where to sign up when it happens. I'm anxious to disprove whatever worries I've got about Auto Assault... so now I'm happy.

Nooooooooooooooo *camera zooms out* ... don't postpone beta, pretty please?! Just hearing that it will be up 'soon' makes me flip to the site every hour or so... bah. we're all really pumped about this game, looking forward to seeing it in action. don't keep us waiting too long!

Stop replying with telling me to stop replying with smiles.
(getting back on track...)
Besides - this is what a beta is for... to help find those little things in the game that might get fixed prior to official launch. God willing, there game goes off without a hitch. It's extremely hard, however, to know how something will handle when handed over to a few hundred (or thousand) consumers as opposed to a few dozen playtesters.
U better get it going cuz we`ll come get you ;P How long are you expecting this beta to last anyway ?! And are we going to have fun playing it ? (not like Face of Mankinda(no offence to any1)) Are we going to be heard when making suggestions?

Um, I believe that's a marketing decision and as such I don't feel I'm fully qualified to answer, but let me take a stab at it....

For the comically challenged, that was a joke. =P We are not going to postpone beta just to tweak one guy's melon.
