All I gotta say is... this is one of the best articles on mmorpg I have seen so far...

I have seriously heard everyone of those used when people try to defend MO.
Comments
It's like Jon's whole article is based solely on the MO forums.
I know. I have heard all of those arguments in defense of MO, its kinda scary.
actually you can hear them in any forum. except indye part and payed beta. but was a very very VERY good article to read!!!!
I know. I have heard all of those arguments in defense of MO, its kinda scary.
I've heard most of those arguments for dozens of other MMOs too.
Isn't this article about MMOs in general?

Yes, but hearing everyone one of them from the MO forums for the past 8 months every time you criticize something that has gone wrong?

Yeah, but the point of the article holds true, its said about just about every MMO.. its been said in one form or another about ToR and STO already.. and those games aren't nearly in as bad of shape as MO. I think you hear it alot more in MO because theres so much more lacking at this time.
And this is different from the way many other games start off? MO is just another game pushing its product out the door before its ready.

Is mortal online the first game you followed here? This is the story behind every MMO launch since EQ. That's what the article is about, as it happens with every MMO. Not just MO, besides MO is of no concern to the greater majority of the MMO crowd. You also forget that the article brings up everything naysayers normally say as well, which could be applied to everything negative said about MO.
This crap flies both ways from both sides and creates a completely irrational conversation in the end that leads nowhere fast.
You also forget at least with MO every issue that is known is known by everyone, not just those in beta, or behind the curtain of development. There's no secrets here so this is way different than the normal release, which is good IMO.
Whether they deliver a decent gaming experience has yet to be seen, those who can deal with issues will play those who can't.. well, I'm sure we'll hear all about what they're doing. As they'll be here for the post launch fallout as well, with their "told you so" and whatever other chest beating posts they come up with.

What I find interesting is #7:

#7 You're Nothing But a Troll / Hater
Ok, I'm going to start my summary of this particular choice by saying that, and I can't say this loudly or obnoxiously enough: NOT EVERYONE WHO DOESN'T SHARE YOUR OPINION IS A HATER OR A TROLL. I'm sorry you all had to see that. I'm obviously not talking to everyone, but for those of you that this applies to... you know who you are.
Now, while I think that this defense gets thrown around way too often, I will say that there most certainly are haters and trolls out there who aren't making their comments based on any experience with or knowledge of the game, who just want the thing to fail. That's a troll or a hater, and should be called out as such.
It's a perfectly legitimate defense, just make sure that before you use it, you check to see if the person you're defending against really is a hater, or just someone with a different viewpoint.
---------------------------------------------------
Obviously it's opposite is true as well for people who defend a game blindly. What I find interesting is that is someone followed Jon's advice highlighted above.. they would be banned from these forums

Not true at all, you have to point it out properly to moderation who will review the posters posts and remove him/her (ban). Going to the forum and calling them out isn't really what he is saying. I have first hand knowledge of this just report anyone who you suspect of such or the opposite to MikeB. It works....
Edit- not always in your favor of course, as not everyone is a troll, raving fanboi or hater. I've done it once and that poster was removed and I was thanked for bringing him to light. That's because every post by the poster was a troll post, every single one.

lol @ a moderator changing the "fanboy" to "player" in the title
But...i think those are good defenses!
The # 1 is the best one. You always know when a WoW player have gotten into a discussion : )
lol @ moderator... really?
It was a good read, as i've seen these posts in every MMO i've followed on MMORPG.com
This one is a good one though:
#3 This game is X, it was never intended to be Y
I'm going to be honest, I really like this defense of a game. Often times, people will jump into some forum or another and rag on an MMO for not being a certain kind of game, most often for not being a sandbox.
When someone does that, I always applaud the folks who resist the urge to respond with a #5, and just point out the fact that it was never the intent of the developers to make that kind of game.
Honestly, I don't know why people would walk into a theme park game, for example, and get angry because it isn't a sandbox. I understand liking sandboxes (I love them too), but you're just not in the right place for it.
The article is very well done, but if you have not heard each one of those arguments on every MMO forum in MMORPG, you've not been paying close enough attention.
Which means one thing:
Mortal Online seems to be just like all the other MMOs here in some ways.
haha good stuff.

This article is certainly dedicated to Mortal Online. I have the feeling that the author was reading MO forums while writing the article. It is alway possible to find arguments if you have a target. MO seems to become the center of hatret in the MMO world for some people. How this is possible if it is not because of love.
