 I heard darkfall currently doesn't have a free trial and that one will be coming out does anyone know when, and if it is possible to get one yet?

     There was apparently a 10 day trial (and a boxed version) in Greece within the last few months.  (can anybody confirm?) At this time there is no trial otherwise.  It's in or out.  I was pretty skeptical, but had to see for myself after some careful waiting.  I'm happy to say that for my expectations I'm not disappointed, however my wait for the first set of fiascos to pass (which anybody will admit existed) may not be long enough for your wait.  Nothing hurts putting it off until they'll let you in.

    However as you'll note in several reasonably well-argued threads here, there could be quite a bit of damage to the live/ subscriber play if a trial dropped trial accounts into it.  I don't mean to claim there is as nuanced an economy as EVE, however I know if I could create a trial account even with skill caps, I and everybody else would be gathering and scouting on them.  One character per account is a pretty big deal.  This doesn't stop people from owning multiple accounts, but for me I couldn't justify the cost - and I think that goes for most... Unlike on most MMOs where rolling an alt becomes a common occurrence.

    Honestly I would not look for a free trial anytime soon, maybe ever.  If they can get enough subs to stay afloat and keep building their game, I think that might satisfy them.  I don't know the devs aside from some of the bizarre interaction that has come from/with them, so that is pure speculation.  And frankly I'd be ok with that, if the same level of subs provided a reasonably visible population during server primetime.

    How dare you present him with logic! Don't you understand? He fights epic fights, in epic games, with epic toons....eats epic food and takes epic dumps! He has more e..pic..icity...ness in his little finger than you have in your whole unepic body! - ChicagoCub

    I can confirm that. Apparently some sort of PC gaming magazine in Greece had a 10 day trial code inside. A MMORPG user was generous enough to give that code and saved 50$ for me by not purchasing it.

    About the 2nd paragraph: its been chewed over and over and is fairly easily to avoid the scenario you are describing in your 2nd paragraph (hint: separate island). All things considering, I think a free trial would be beneficial for DF for 2 major reasons:

    - influx of new players (obviously);

    - people who try the game first and get disappointed are less likely to badmouth the game compared to people who took the risk and get majorly disappointed;

    I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

    Adventurine needs to get a free trial going to get more subscribers. Im not willing to dump $50 on a game on blind faith and i doubt too many people would.

    (AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH  fires plunger at Tasos for not having free trial!)

    All my opinions are just that..opinions. If you like my opinions..coolness.If you dont like my opinion....I really dont care.

     Regarding the well-chewed second paragraph, I also am on the side that thinks a separate island would be a good thing.  Given that there's only one server (cluster?) in NA and one in EU, though, I'm not sure how motivated they are at this time to put up the hardware/modified server software to handle that.  I agree it would likely be beneficial.  People need to get first hand exposure, DFO has been over-covered by the far left and right extremes for years now.

    The only way would be a completely seperate island... even seperate chat.

    Island would be a bad idea. I'd say a low cap on skills would work much better. Imagine all those noobs connect to server, get 25 in any crafting or weapon... and boom - no further progression without $50. I bet AV would earn $1kk in a few hours...

    No. Just let them skill up to say that lvl on a completely seperate island (with seperate chat) and when their trial over (or during) they can just buy the game and have their character move to the starter city(s).

    Problem solved, and no worries of gold buying chat spam.

    Sell X-hour or X-day trials for $5, spammer problem solved.

    If user decides to purchase the game he gets it for an additional $45 (discounting $5 he paid in advance for the trial).

    Chalk me up under the island trial banner. This works for games like VG and Ryzom. I don't see why it wouldn't work with DFO.

    Current: None
    Played: WoW, CoX, SWG, LotRO, EVE, AoC, VG, CO, Ryzom, DF, WAR
    Tried: Lineage2, Dofus, EQ2, CoS, FE, UO, Wurm, Wakfu
    Future: The Repopulation, ArcheAge, Black Desert, EQN

    2009. Only a year off.

    Aventurine would be dumb not to put out a free trial. I understand all your concerns about gold farming and the like, but those are grossly overshadowed by the influx of players they would get.

    There are SO many people on the fence about this game, and a free trial would, in the long run, yield them more subscriptions than anything.

    As for the trial island idea, I dont think thats possible. The game's forte is its open world and no boarders. You would basically be taking away the two main features that people play this game for.

    Skill cap + time restrictions + IP and email uniqueness should be sufficient. Also maybe adding a "Noob chat channel" could help.

    I'll end my $.02 with this: Population drives MMO's, especially with a game like darkfall. I cringe when companies wait too long to release a trial to a point where their game is beyond help. (Vanguard, SWG, etc)

     After watching the latest video on the forums got me really interested in the game(Turtles vrs. TCA vid).  I have alot of questions but thought a trial could help me decide.
