Thanks to the fool who came up with this addon and Blizzard feeding into it! Finally tired of it, had enough, all game conversations = Gear Score and check out this phat new EPIC, in game and in real life! I am in the computer field, everyone at my office plays, and what used to be fun talk about adventures and dungeons, has turned into Gear Score, you can't get away from it in-game or out!! How fast you can get badges, and how you can pug anything now so all thats really important is that we now talk about GEARSCORE and that EPIC I got lastnight!
Been coming to this site for a few years, I have learned how to weed through the BS and have enjoyed some great articles. I am checking out Fallen Earth. I may even check out SWG, see some positive re-reviews for that. Star Trek, I have beta tested and has potential but by no means is it ready for production! Hell there is like a 50 page post about how STO shutsdown peoples "otherwise" functioning hardware. I have experienced this myself, but have enjoyed some of the beta. I just will not pay for something that is going to shutdown my PC which runs ANYTHING else just fine. So Fallen Earth it is, then maybe SWG again if thats lame. I am on the hunt, you should be too. Let Blizzard know their crap has bottomed out.
I get the feeling BIOWARE is going to challenge Blizzard one of these years. I mean look at their RPG titles, all fantastic. Not too many bad ones. If they have any luck with SWTOR they should hire more folks for MMO developement and get cracking on a Baldur's Gate MMO, a Neverwinter Nights MMO, a Dragon Age MMO, or a Mass Effect MMO, ANYTHING!
Here's to what may be our final hope! Good luck with SWTOR Bioware! Polish that game and make us proud!

Edit-to-your-Edit; He's not even proposing people play FE or SWG, he's just saying he's playing it and if it sucks he'll jump ship. There's no suggestion whatsoever here beyond that quitting WoW is the new cool (even if I agree).

The gear score obsession is why I won't raid (or do much else at max level unless I'm trying to get heirlooms for my alts) in WoW. But that's fine, I'm an altaholic
I am waiting for FFXIV though, and may go back to FFXI in a month or two while I wait.

Well, that's part of the issues when you concentrate the majority of the significant endgame play at the instanced gear grind (no, don't bring the achievements thing up as you have around 454 achievements on raids and instances and the remaining 600 distributed among the "rest", which are 8 categories), people's mentalities will obviously evolve towards the most efficient way to play it and there you have GS.
And I'm afraid Cataclysm won't change much about it, and perhaps they might emphasize the gear grinding even more, I do hope I am wrong though.
Yeah, is all about the gear, it always was, it always will. And I don't think Blizzard will change that since most players love the epix phat lootz. Epix lootz drop like candy now at level 80 in normal dungeons. Want better epix loot? Hit the heroics. :b

One must keep in mind that, on the internet, people tend to express their feelings in odd ways. As a veteran of many forums and games, there were 2 things that stood out in his seemingly incoherent rant.
1: He hates GearScore and, by extension, WoW.
2. He likes Bioware titles, and believes SW:TOR will be superior to WoW.
Also seemed he was wishing for some NVN DragonAge, etc spinoff MMOs, but could be mistaken on that point.
On the point of "pointless" things, pointless internet memes are pointless, especially when they declare something to be pointless, yet you (and I) still use them, yet many would be completely unable to understand what the heck they mean, unless they've had extensive contact with people who speak in such a manner, much like with the OP.

SW:toR isn't even released yet, and this thread has obviously derailed into pushing subjects from the pub. Namely the one about "gear crawls are lame", I think we have enough of those. LFG section used to be innocent, and you molested the poor thing.

oke as for the other game part im switching to eve now. not sure yet how that will work out for me but the game itself is good.
lol you should see the stats avail in allods online!its about twice worst then wow.
Quick update from my adventures of Trialcrafting! Hopefully the post nazzi is still sleeping and doesnt throw his look at how many posts I have becuase I cut down everyone elses hat on! Tried Fallen Earth, got stuck in the opening scenerio, didnt really groove on the UI or the insanely greyish type graphics. Finally got into STO beta again, played for a couple of hours and instead of a full system crash I just got bounced back and forth between the game and desktop a few times but never really crashed, just took a shit load of damage while I was waiting for the game to catch back up! I had fun regardless and got some missions done!
This morning I have fired up the Star Wars Galaxies trial and am impressed on how decent this game looks after 5 years. The intro cinematic gave me a tickle in the pecker. I think this one may be good. So all those looking for a new game, thats what I am doing and thats why I started this post. To those of you who want to troll and cut everything down have at it, your obviously not playing anything worth a crap if you got that much time on your hands. I am sure our friend with his giant 858 POST SCORE will have something to say His POST SCORE obviously needs help if he hasn't hit 1k yet. I will check back later this afternoon!
Gear is another form of character progression.
1 to level-cap = level progression.
level-cap plus = gear progression.
It is an intentional game mechanic in place to try to keep players in the game rather than quitting when they reach level cap. In WoW's case, they try to make the endgame gear grind as slow as possible, which is why it's tied in to raiding.
When everyone who wants it already has the best gear, time for an XPack, obsolete all the gear in game and start over.

I can agree with that. I am just growing tired of the same conversation I suppose. Between that and feeling boxed in as DPS, Tank, or Healer things are just getting stale.

I think you'll like SWG alot, also LOTRO is doing a free welcome back weekend, and has a free 10-day trial, if you like the setting of Middle Earth.
