In my opinion this game will be a great success worldwide. And im happy about the fact that the end-game focus lies in pvp. I tried many other games (Lotr, AoC, WAR,etc.) but i played them only for one month because i got bored or the game was buggy and didnt run stable. Im playing Eve Online for 4 years now and Allods can be a good alternative for some diversion.
I think the future lies in f2p if the game mechanics allows a cash-shop which dont unbalance the game. Im not longer willing to pay 50 euros for beta crap (STO) including a monthly fee. There were too many great disappointments in the last years.
Can Allods Online be the WoW of f2p games? I dont know. Can Allods Online be the first AAA-title which is f2p? Yes.
I would play Allods over the current WoW if both cost the same or were f2p. I dunno what it is but Allods has that quality which vanilla WoW had back then for me. Of course neither can touch the experience of my first MMO, Anarchy Online, but Allods really gives that cool fun feel.
I think Allods will have a strong dedicated player base that would be willing to pay a sub. I think that they should go toward the DDO model of having both options.
Runes of Magic is more WoW like than Allods. Its also way more dependant on its Store. Not that Allods store wont have you wanting to buy things but its completely possible to play the game with extreme minimal use of the store (has seen the items they're offering on the store).
Allods takes alot of the good things about WoW, some of the Good Things about RVR from War / DAOC (or rather the way it should of been), and brings back some of the things that were missing like wandering raid mobs (that have related quests that give fantastic blue items), daily treasures you can collect and sell (random green and sometimes blue items).
It has an interesting crafting system thats essentially a mini game, there's no Hit button and walk away, its crafting professions are also set up that you're fairly dependant on using the Auction House (unless you have alot of alts and manage to keep them at fairly close level to one another). While you can't grind for gold its pretty obvious that you'll want some good market sense to make money off the AH (or you could just buy 10 gold every so often off the Store lol).
Personally Runes of Magic miffed me off, it had alot of awsome things but all its security problems and mega heavy reliance on the store is a real turn off. Not even Atlantica Online was that dependant on the store. F2P games need to make cash sure but greed shows if the store is too overwhelming.

If Astral Ship PvP is as fun and interesting as it appears, and as such Allods develops an intriguing endgame, the game has a ton of promise.
If I'm not back in five minutes, just wait longer.
