Star Trek Online: Beta Receives Massive Update; Level Cap Removed

MikeBMikeB Community ManagerAdministrator RarePosts: 6,555

The Star Trek Online Open Beta was patched with a massive update recently, addressing many of the issues highlighted in a recently published State of the Game Address. One of the most notable changes to the beta is, of course, the removal of the level cap, allowing for players to explore the game beyond the previously capped rank of Lt. Commander.

Other notable features of the patch include the unlocking of the Romulan and Cardassian sectors, the addition of an option to customize your bridge officers when they join your crew, improvements to the Scan feature, Bridge Officers requesting to join your crew at various levels, and last but not least, an audio journal narrated by Leonard Nimoy for each new Sector Block that you enter.

Of course that is not all the update is about, you'll also find tweaks and changes for just about every facet of the game in this update, so be sure to browse through the full patch notes available here!

we'll see how it goes, i mean i'm not even lt comander yet and it feels quite grindy...

Using the nubie ship for over a week and 1/5 the game is a bit off putting

The patch really improved my performance.  The game runs much better now, especially the ground game.  I'm almost to Lieutenant Commander, only have a couple blocks left.  But I work today so I don't know.  It would be nice to get my cruiser before the game goes live.

While ground combat performance has improved with the patch, it's still the only part of the game that crashes me to desktop.  I can go for hours in space and be in open missions with 20 to 40 people and not only run smoothly, but never crash.  At this point, I absolutely dread doing missions as most of them start out in space, then force me to the ground, where I immediately crash  : (

I noticed a big improvement in the game as a whole, bugs, UI, lag, video lag.

    Good patch.

Too bad I dont pay for effort.  But then again, there will be enough giddy school girls that think a rudimentary space shooter without any content far exceeds their expectations and is justification for almost $300.

I have been playing for quite a while, and this patch did make some massive improvements.

I personally do not like how fast you can progress now, it is almost like you will be maxed out in less than 2 months, and that is average play. To me that is way too fast.

Being 'stuck' as some call it in the first light cruiser you get for a week does not bother me at all, even a 20 hr play week. I think it should take the average player quite some time to get to Admiral rank, many more than 2 or 3 months.

Also, I do not know if it is just for the open beta to speed things along...

Also on that note, the game is way to easy now, taking on 5 Gorn cruisers and X number of support frigates should not be an easy or in most cases a winnable task, but right now, it is...

I have clan mates in groups of 2 killing +15 red jem hadar, that is nutz.

I can go into a fleet action in regulus reign, and solo it at LT COM 4... in a cruiser. too easy... I only die when a make a mistake with a buff, and it is not right away, it is only after some time that i get beat down after the buff mistake.

I truly hope that the play side stuff is just for the open beta, and to push us through the content.

I preordered.  I will pick it up.   That makes me...giddy.    Hey, giddy isn't a bad feeling, now that I have it!  Thanks!!

OH, well there is that other thing, but hey, its the 21st century.

This game may turn out to be shit and Cryptic may still have a horrible rep to many after this, but at least Leonard Nimoy made a few dollars so I don't see it as a total loss no matter what the outcome.

If things get really bad, look at the bright side, Maybe they will sell the audio of him doing the voiceovers for 99 cents or something so people don't have to suffer through the game to hear the work he did for the game :)

Last few patches have been really good. I am really enjoying the game alot now. Space combat and Ground combat improved alot.I think this game will be a success after all and I am glad to have finally found a game that Will replace my old Star Wars Galaxies and Wow MMO'S.I would like to see them change the Sector space map to let you Click the system your going too and then simulate warp travel from the bridge viewpoint. I would also like to see communication in space to have the Bridge viewscreen look instead of a window popping up and interacting that way. Who knows these may be future adds to the game, but they are not game breaking.
