LFG: Good PC Based RPG?

PhelimReaghPhelimReagh Member UncommonPosts: 682

Any single-player RPG recommendations for an MMO player just sick and tired of MMOs?

Fantasy Setting

No First-Person Shooter

Prefer no adult content (find it stupid in a video game)

Strategy Options

Puzzles (do they have those in RPGs?)

I came to MMOs from Pen and Paper RPGs and experience playing Warcarft III (which I really liked, but no more of my cash goes to Blizzard).Liked building villages, smithies, etc..

I want the game itself to be tough, but allow for times when I can put it on easy mode and just crush the computer. LOL.

I don't care if it takes 1,000 hours to finish. I want to be entertained. I also like the idea of having content to play afterwards like Warcraft III did.

Anyway, thanks in advance. Hope I supplied enough info.

PS - No Dragon Age: Origins. Didn't like the videos I saw on YouTube. Too much like a "choose your own adventure" book. Heard NeverWinter Nights was good, but there are so many versions...

The Witcher? Yes, it's mature, but you won't shag any elf.

Sounds like you're after a strategy game more than an RPG. If I'm not way off on that, I think you would like Dawn of Discovery.

Some of my favorite old-school type RPGs are:

http://www.spiderwebsoftware.com - "Avernum" and "Geneforge" series

    and

    http://basiliskgames.com/ - "Eschalon"

    Turn based strategy (open source)

www.wesnoth.org - "The Battle for Wesnoth"

FYI Regarding Neverwinter Nights-  I have owned NWN since release and I still have it installed and continue to play almost weekly. Many quality community made mods are available and even more are still being developed. If interested just pick up the "Diamond Edition" of NWN, it contains the major expansions. The community mods are free, a scan through the NWN forums should get you headed in the right direction.

    Good luck.

The Witcher. The only adult content is unlockable sex cards.

I have to agree w/ SuburbanBase on this one. The Baldur's Gate series was probably the single most phenomenal single-player RPG ever made (in my most humble opinion). The first game and it's expansion (Tales of the Sword Coast) can easily take a hundred hours if you're into exploring and wandering around. The second game and its expansion were so damned enthralling that I literally couldn't stop playing. I played BG2 for hours every night after it came out until I beat it. The story was just THAT good for me. Then I was like... "Shite... I must have missed a ton of content..." So I went back and re-played it taking my time. Once again, easily 100+ hours of quality game-play.

    /sigh

Is it just me, or do they simply not make 'em like they used to anymore?

Just wanted to ask another questions, what is the difference between NeverWinter Nights and NeverWinter Nights 2?

I was thinking of buying up the gold pack of NWN2, or should I just get the Diamond Edittion for NWN? Just wondering, which is (a) better and (b) has more after-game content?

neverwinter nights 2 is a party based rpg where u have 3 other companions that are fully fleshed out and part of the story.neverwinter nights 1 is pretty much just you alone.also, NWN2 is mostly all voice acted and graphics are much better.with the 2 expansions and user mods, theres a ton of gameplay. It's also highly replayable.I suggest getting it.You could also try king's bounty, as it's a turn based strategy rpg.

Also, why don't you like dragon age origins?your reason makes no sense really. If you like pc rpgs, I can't see why you wouldnt at least try it, as it's the first true good pc style rpg to come out in a while.
