If this game is such a disapointment and is so horrid then why is the fleet I am in brimming full of people and we have more people applying than we can accept?   And most of those apps came durring open beta..

Seems to me that we just have way too many vocal negative people around here than fans..

Grats to all of you who chased the fans away.. Enjoy your whine fests..

Whilst I agree with you to an extent, this kind of comment HAS to wait until March 3rd, after the first free month is up. That is the only time to see if customers are committed to the game, and whether the attrition rate is manageable.

Even a month is too little, but it's the best you can work with. Come back and repost this in a little over a month, and your point will be valid.

It's the honymoon period.  It's like this with EVERY NEW MMO release.

I have been guild leader myself in a lot of MMO's.

My guilds were booming and very active in games like AoC and WAR for example, in the first weeks.

Then after the first month was up. BOOM!  90% didn't log on anymore.

And after 2-3 months, you and a couple officers. Is all that's left.

Won't be any different with Star Trek Online. As it's sheer repetitiveness, lack of content or anything else that doesn't involve Pew Pew Pew, will drive away most people within the first month.

So. Lets talk again in about 4-5 weeks. Shall we?  Let's see if you are still so optimistic.

    Cheers

I was talking about these forums particularly.. Not the game or the STO official forums.. Plenty of people there

and as for the 4 or 5 weeks down the road.. Well yes I have seen that pattern and have even taken part in it to an extent. I personally give a new game at least 3 months before I decide to quit.. But thats just me.

I gave AoC 2 months. As there was no one left anymore. Just me and an officer.

I gave WAR even 4 months. As there it took a little longer till most were gone.

Both AoC and WAR had more diverse gameplay, more content and features then STO.

That's why I am not gonna bother with STO. As the drop off after the first month will be so massive (as this game has even less content and is even more unfinished and unpolished then CO was at launch).  That's not something I want to go through again.

Thanks, but no thanks.  But good luck to you tho.

I love how the same people come on here and say the same thing about every MMO out there and 9 times out of 10 they are wrong.

STO has some good features and i personally found it fun.

STO is more polished than AOC and Warhammer were when they came out and has tons of content on the federation side the Klingon side is lacking but more will be added within the first few months.

All in all its a good game that will be around for years.

What tons of content are you talking about?  You are doing the exact same pew pew pew and FFFF hitting at level1 as at level45.

That's not content. That is Recycling Ad Infinitum at it's finest.

    Sorry tho.

I don't actually think that's a correct statement.  STO isn't really "polished" at all.  And War (can't comment for AoC) definitely had more content available at launch.  Lack of polish isn't what's going to kill STO, lack of substance will.  But hey, if the Star Wars people can keep SWG alive, then I assume the Trekkies can keep this going as well.

Best not to make predictions about games.  Just saying.

Its clear to me you didn't play the game just leveled in it, cause if you actually took the time to play you would be saying that .

There are people who play games and then there's those who just level in games i think you are the leveler.

I have played the Open Beta at it's fullest. I never just blindly level in any MMO.

I am actually one of the few that actually bothers reading the Quest Dialogs to give me more immersion. That's why I love EverQuest 2 and still play it today.

The sheer repetitiveness in all Cryptic's games is just astounding!

If you really paid more attention to the missions in STO and read the dialogs and conversations, then you are shocked to see how much stuff gets continiously recycled!

Not to mention the missions itself are the exact same stuff over and over and over and over and over again. And again. And again.

Ground: Beam down, hit the F button on 3 or 4 objects (either static objects or NPC's), kill mob spawns along the way. Beam out.

Space: Not much different. Patrol spots. Scan or destroy objects. Eliminate mob spawns. And sometimes you beam to a station (with the same procedure as ground missions.)

That's all Cryptic's content designers can come up with. They did it in CoX. They did it in CO. And now again in STO.

Just read my topic in this forum about this subject.  All their content is just procedurally generated.

    Cheers

Man that is exactly my point what you see are objects and Mobs and what i see are Klingons and computer consoles and species 8472 i see birds of preys and raptors and i see my away team completing missions for the good of the galaxey.

It is clear this game is not for you but your summary is flawed. Just beacuse you don't see the content doesn't mean it isn't there.

I see it as do thousands of others.

I guess we are all wrong and you are right or just maybe you are the wrong one.

I know its a long shot but hell we have a Black President i guess anything is possible.

That's actually more than EVE online. Though they are trying to make a console game that covers the away missions.

which clearly means you havent played Eve online, or know what DUST514 is actually about. please, dont compare Eve online to STO, at least until you've actually played the games.

I really wanted to play STO but lucked out on the key promos so I purchased it. I have to say I am a little disappointed in the game overall. Graphics are just ok, gameplay is a little too repetitve and chat is very lame. Then again its only beta. I hope it improves, it has potential to be an amazing game.

And see.. I agree with you.. There is some very good storyline and epic questing that my fleet and I had allot of fun with.. Pvp was a nice break when you got tired of questing or only had a little time to play (Space pvp was really well done imo) and the exploration.. Although it only got actually in at the last bit of beta is fun, rewarding and I see alot of posibilities with that element. Then you have the fleet actons..   Well I guess to each his own but personally I found plenty and I didn't even get to do everything I wanted to..

Alot of my fleet are Trekies and or gamers. I think alot of the "Elitest" here overlook that aspect of the fanbase.. Hell most of them had never even heard of MMORPG.com .. Go figure

Well, really this is like the third honeymoon with the same partner.  Maybe they got a little work done, but it's the same person deep down.  Shallow and greedy.  Almost not even worth a booty call.

It's always that way in the beginning for most AAA MMO's.  The exception might be CO, but even its heydays were during launch and much of the first month.

It's almost like RL dating.  There's the first date hurdle (1 month), the 3 month hurdle, and the 6 month hurdle.

My 2 cents is, There'll be pretty decent retention in the 1st month, but there'll be much heavier losses afterward.  In my experience and in its current state, I don't see this being a game most people will keep playing for years.  It's somewhat "Tabula Rasa" in its gameplay options.

Of course, in a months time there will be haters pointing at Xfire where players aren't playing the game 12 hours a day like they did at launch, and fanbois who will call them paid Eve propagandists... and there will be me doing a /facepalm.

You claim STO is nothing but repetitiveness, yet admit  still playing EQ2 for many years which is also very reptitive with the actions you do to intract with the content that's spoon fed you.

This game will be yet another stunning failure released solely to rip off fans of a long established franchise name. This game failed once when the original developer went under before the game was even released. All the trek fans will no doubt give this game a shot but 6 months out it will be just another failure in the long list of MMO disasters dumped on fans of one thing or another. One of these days game developers will actually get back to trying to make good games instead of trying to make a quick buck off of the popularity of something totally unrelated to gaming. Until then the MMO genre will continue limping along on played out games like wow.

    Excuse me?

EverQuest 2 has a ton more features then STO and had that already at launch! So please.

Crafting might be repetitive. But the rest is not.

In no way can you even compare EQ2's engaging and very story driven World Event quests, Heroic Questlines, Hallmark Quest lines, Herritage Quest lines, Signature Questlines, etc. And there are a ton of them in the game.

You got housing, collections, gathering, crafting, one of the best dungeons to explore (most quest driven).

What does STO have?  Endless repetitive recycled procedural missions, a handful more interesting story missions and some isntanced PVP maps.  That's it. There is nothing else to do in that game then to shoot stuff.

    Cheers

It's funny, you see people bitch and complain about a Beta? I read some of these articles over and over to try and get a glimpse of where they are comming from, luckily, it's just from afew people in MMORPG who are trolls in general. To constantly bash a game, andon top of that considering it's a god damn beta is wrong! Betas are meant for stress testing servers, finding bugs, and correcting lag issues with the server , the list can go on in what a beta was designed for.

STO, has aton of options and to be honest it's not that repetitive at all, if it is your playing it wrong, plain and simple. In one way or another, every MMO has it's own form of repetitiveness so what your just doing right there is acting like another flamming troll. People who don't like the game fine, thats alright, but to come on here and bitch and complain to everyone else that the game blows, lack of content, I mean really, Lack of content in a BETA? Some of you people are freaking stupid, stop complaining and play something else and leave us  fans of the game be!

Thank god the game is out of beta. So the beta excuse can't be used anymore.

Or are you one of those that still believe in Miracles and think Cryptic will drop a huge gigantic miracle suprise patch this friday that fixes everything?

    Cheers

Thank god the beta is almost over because I am looking forward to playing the released version.

Are you one of those that still believe that beta's are the released version of the game?My guess is you have'nt played beta's at all, considering half the people that complain about STO or any other beta's in the past. I think it's ironic that people like yourself, have something to say about everything,my guess is your just not a Fan of the IP at all and your goal is to turn people away from this game? Yet again, this is a beta NOT a RELEASED Version of the game.

    cheers
