Looks like  they let their imaginations run wild once again.  It must have takin a lot of work to come with these; I would say about 3 minutes worth.  Cut past from old sets, rehash the colors....done.   If they ever put a tenth of the imagination into the game that the do into their videos they would have something awesome, however, they continue to settle for the middle of the road.

They do look like they could have tried a little harder at the artwork, but at least they don't all look the same this time.

You're right, they don't ALL look the same, just most of them look the same.

they lost it somewhere along tier 3

I have a couple of theories about Blizzard and WoW.

First of all...if money kept rolling in your front door to the tune of billions a year, regardless of how much or how little you did....how strong would the temptation be to just say, "Meh...they'll like it no matter what. Just go on and make it the way you have it there. It could be better...but why bother? It's not really gonna matter in the long run anyway." (Skip to last paragraph for how this, imo, ties into gear design.)

I think the temptation would be very very strong to just kick back and finally rest on my laurels. But then...maybe I'm just a lazy ass.

That was my Blizzard theory, and here's my WoW theory....

I'm willing to wager, that most of the people you see talking about how much fun they have playing WoW...especially here on MMORPG.com....were not from the original RELEASE group of players. They may have started a year later, or two, or maybe even more recently.

I think WoW used to have the capability of holding the average gamer's attention for anywhere from 3-5 years. However...that "lifespan" is now decreasing even more, as they have made leveling so ridiculously trivial, by gimping everything (and I do mean EVERYthing). Elites all across Azeroth are no longer elites, levels fly by at breakneck speed, most people level at least to 60 without ever being in a group, some level all the way to 80 that way. And while the dungeon finder may take care of SOME of this....the xp has still been increased so exponentially, you don't put in anywhere NEAR the TIME on a character as we did when WoW was first released. Time is an interesting investment. It can make things feel much more precious if you've invested more time and effort into obtaining something, than if it's just given to you, or if it comes very easily.

Think about your first car (if Mommy and Daddy bought it for you). Did you take care of THAT car as well as you take care of the car you have today as an adult, that cost you, PERSONALLY, so much money? Some might...but I bet most will notice a marked difference in the value you place on something you personally have to invest yourself in......

What this "shrinking of invested time" means is....people have time to not only get to 80 quickly, but also make several ALTS, in the same amount of time it took "the release crowd" to get just their FIRST character to 60 and geared in dungeon or PvP epics. Eventually....these people will burn out, and it will end up taking them LESS time TO burn out, than the original "release group,"  because they are being able and encouraged to gobble up the content even MORE quickly. So while those of us that started playing in 2004 are burning out, burnt out, or in a LOT of cases...totally gone from the game....the same will begin happening to the newer crowd, and at a faster rate once it starts (if it hasn't already).

While "we" got tired of waiting for The Burning Crusade, and then (if we stayed that long) for Wrath of the Lich King....some of these people will either throw in the towel entirely before Cataclysm, or play Cataclysm until all of the new content has been gobbled up and they finally realize....it is STILL just chasing after gear, ultimately, before they too just say, "Fuck it."

    REGARDING SEASON 8 ARMOR:

I have gone through (seen) 10 sets of tier armor and 8 sets of PvP armor now (actually...I left the game at 9 sets of tier, and I haven't bothered with PvP gear for years now). I have not seen ANY armor that was unique to its class, or really very creatively interesting since oh...maybe Dungeon set TWO. And the last three sets, have been so uninspired, imo....that they're barely distinguishable at all, other than by color...barely.  And I think....this ties into the first paragraph of my post here.....

Locks seem to always be near the top of best looking (yeash I said topping).

These sets are pretty meh.  I like the idea/art behind the raid set, but the pvp set? 80s collars for pallys? wat? It's different and I don't like the sets much at all.  Cept the locks <.< I want a draenei lock with that set!

It's supposed to be Gladiator's armor, armor you pick up in an arena underworks before fighting.  Not some ancient mystical gear passed on by Gods.

    Geez.

I´m a bit of a WoW fanboi, if i say myself (whut? i've only played it for 5 years, there's just nutthin better out there ^^)

But i agree, the armor sets are lame (Paladin is, well, on the edge of  good/wrong)   hunter looks like its level 75 green gear lmao.

IT LOOKS AWFULL, but i bet they have their reasons xD.

    1. Airship raiding

2.THE LEGENDARY ENCOUTER WITH TEH LICH KING

    3. something called  "Cataclysm"

ah well, there are games where gear looks even more awfull ^^, at least PVE gear still looks nice.

    Big Shoulderpads - check

    weard glowy bits - check

    Lack of imagination - check.

    Yep same old rehashed armour.

I especially love the ones where the shoulder pads are almost bigger than the poor guy 'wearing' them. Especially when you ask the question of how can he see to the side with those big plated of metal acting like giant blinkers for horses.

Another great example of Moore's Law. Give people access to that much space (developers and users alike) and they'll find uses for it that you can never imagine. "640K ought to be enough for anybody" - Bill Gates 1981

And to think, lots of people actually go nuts over this crap.  It's a sad sad world.

    Lots of shiny.

  • kakarotragekakarotrage Member Posts: 280

I played from original and I can honestly say it looks like they said "ppl gonna play no matter what crap you throw at them" ..

tier 1 and tier 2 were really special looking, that was in the time that getting a tier set was actually hard to get.. when I think about it, this actually makes alot sense... it's really easy to get sets now so might as well make it look like crap.

Ehh I like some of the older designs better.

Give me a set of Valor over any raid set ever released in wow anyday.

    Druids and Paladins, duh.

As for the armor sets:  Power Rangers anyone?

What reason could you possibly have for this?

    1. Airship raiding

2.THE LEGENDARY ENCOUTER WITH TEH LICH KING

    3. something called "Cataclysm"

How are these reasons for boring re-hashed armor designs?

No....no, it really doesn't. It all pretty much has started to look the same when you're talking about SETS. Even the PvP sets and PvE sets resemble each other now......

    I totally agree.

I think Blizzard is really slipping. I think they don't care that much anymore because they don't HAVE to. People (at least a LOT of people) will still play and still pay them, regardless of what they do. I think maybe they're just testing that. As a matter of fact...right now...there are a lot of broken quests in the 60-75 range. My partner is still playing and she's trying to level her last alt. She keeps running into broken quests, some of which have been repeatedly reported and are still broken now after a MONTH. I'm not sure what that says other than, "You know....we don't have to care any more. We're focused on 'endgame' and people are going to keep giving us money any way."

Well here is ONE "people" that isn't going to.....and the other half is quickly becoming disillusioned as well.

BORING!!!.Same old crap every 6 months or so something new added to try and make people get intrested in what they did  months earlier.Let me see if i can predict what is coming in the future hmmmm i see a new release of badge and tier items etc... to replace the gear  you already spent the last 6 months or more getting.. Oh and then don't forget about the gems and enchants you will need to put inon your new gear... What a load of crap.Tbh Blizzard did what SoE did with the CU upgrade because there is really little need for all the classes now since Wotlk just SoE did it with more style and pissed everyone off not just some like Blizzard only real classes need now are DruidPaladinShaman and maybe DK.

Have to agree. It would really be nice to see NEW stuff. Do they even have an imagination anymore when it comes to Armor/Gear?
