I upped my hype from a 2.0 to a 10.0 as it's currently the ONLY game I'm actually interested in that I think has a chance at lasting more than a couple of months. I'm sure others will take this time to 1.0 hype it, but hey, that's up to them. :)

    so...

My hypes typically start at 1.0 and then I raise it 1 point for every feature that interests me. Currently I've hyped STO at 3.0 -- it gets points for skill-based system and the glimmer of ship interiors.

Hype was at a 7,  but since I spent a few hours in the open beta I moved it down to a 2.    Really doesent interest me at all anymore.

mine was 10 but now prob 8.5 only because i dont think its ready for release yet. im having a great time playing but everything seems a little rushed, Im sure all that will change in time. i think it needs another 6 months of development for polishing purposes and more content.

I gave it a 5. I really enjoy the space combat but the ground combat is simply terrible in this game. I also find the quests to be rather generic and uninspiring. However, I will say that with the element of space combat this game has potential to be something different from the norm for players. On a bad note though if Cryptic runs this game like CO I'm not sure how much is going to be added to the game after launch. They haven't really done much with CO from what I have seen, which doesn't bode well for how they'll support this game either.

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

    2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

    3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

    5 - Total missed opportunity

Watered down, appeal to the masses, generic crapfest of cope-outness, and a shadow of what it could and should of been. I'm sure there are some people with low expectations who will 'like' it though. Me, I've got higher expectations for a game named Star Trek Online.

  • SoldarithSoldarith Member Posts: 184

I gave it a 2. Simply put this game is a Star Trek skin ontop of previously-released games by the same company. In no way does this product meet the quality I would expect for such a strong IP like Star Trek. Terribly disappointing.

4 - it isn't the Star Trek Canon.  Managing star ship's from the 3rd person?  Bridge layout doesn't match anything in the Trek Universe... *sigh*

Games that go live in this state, sadly, never really get over it.  Most game systems and ideas just cannot be developed in live because to many players become vested in the status quo - not to mention that post live there is little financial incentive as you are at best chasing a dwindling subscription base anyways.  We will see but STO looks more an more like a carbon copy of Champion's Online.

It will be very interesting to see where it goes.

Im just coming full circle 2 weeks after many others had a chance to play STO to see the hype drop from 8.27 to 8.04.

I think it takes quite a bit of voting activity to move these games hype with all the back and forth, particularly down.  Considering that the original hype began with the community not having any experience, but only 'expectations' with the content, mechanics, finish, and breadth and depth of game-play of STO, I'd venture to say that the hype and interest for this game will continue to slip harshly.

Way before beta, my personal hype was sizable based on 'expectations', but having played the open beta in an environment with game-play, content, mechanics, story and breadth and depth of environmental interaction that we know will be the launched game, my hype is way lower than it was.

As it stands, the best (+) for this game is avatar customization, and everything falls apart after that; particularly if your playing the Klingon faction.  No mmorpg is perfect at launch, but for this title to come close to being considered anything but a niche mmo, will probably take an inordinate amount of re-development and another 2 years of thoughtful work.

So my take based on my experience and having explored the experience posted of others is this:

    - There doesn't seem to be much respect for the Star Trek IP.

    - Space is space-less.  Each map is nothing more than a confining shoe-box of many instacnes.

    - No freedom of exploration. No exploration to other planets or discovery; again, your confined to your shoe-box instance.  There's nothing dynamically to do.

    - If you do see a planet on an instanced map, there is no away-team capability to freely explore its surface.  Its nothing more than a static inactive marble that you bounce off of in your confined instance.

    - Space flight is confining and lacks freedom.  There's a limited z-axis that prevents looping or gaining weapons locks on ships that are above or below, yet in front of you in many cases.  It just adds to the unnecessary maneuvering of your ship.

    - Every weapon systems all have the same confining range. There is no differentation of range or tactical or strategic difference based on range.

    - Space is life-less, other than the instance nodes that you bump into to enter.  If you see an opposing faction player on a system map, there is absolutely no engagement.

    - Content is sorely lacking to the point where very very early on in this game, the 'instanced' pve quests are nothing more than similar repeatable maps and mobs of previous quests done; the static nature of pve and its' redundancy is astounding.

    - Quest copywriting seems very week that leads to weak story engagement or sense of draw that your actually contributing to a story-arc or meaningfully contributing to federation or klingon game-play.

    - Space and ground combat has the most limiting, redundant, counter-strike fps pve of any game in the genre.

    - There is no physics to ground combat as there is no physics to space combat that factor into game-play.

    - Ground and Space pvp combat amounts to a frag-fest of limited players and non-tactical or strategic importance in any respect to story or game-play in this faction vs. faction environment.

    - Like a fps pvp without any game-play contributory value, other than winning a map, it amounts to run, gun, die, or run, gun, win, limp, die. But your rewarded as much for being a loser as a winner; no mmoprg game-play distinction. I havent found the game-play nutrition in this yet.

    - There is no reasonable complimentary opposite to winning.  You win in space and on ground, you get a battery or such, you lose on space or on ground, you miraculously reappear next to the fight to battle like a button mashing mindless drone without consequences again.

    - The community (massively multiplayer) element of this mmorpg is very retarded, as opposed to expanded and cooperative) due to the great number of single-player feel instances.  Community feels fragmented to one of those several small instanced zones that does nothing to encourage the feel of massively multiplayer entertainment.

    - No alternative industry, aka, no resource gathering towards community crafting, enterprise, or merchandising elements for the federation or klingons. Would be nice if this mmorpg staple were available to players, rather than being non-existant.

I give it a 9/10. It can use a little polish like all new games. But it is right now a thoroughly enjoyable game. I have now purchased full version and am anxiously waiting for launch tomorrow.

Fun game, but not ready for release.  Feels like a single player game with multi player added in for good measure; where good measure means extra revenues in the tune of $15/month and the company's ability to DRM my game.

Would of been happy to pay the $50 box price, but not $15 monthly which equates to $180 yearly.  So it will be $230 for a single player game.

In essence, GTA 4 or MW2 could have done the same thing if they called their games MMOs.

    6/10

After 3 weeks in beta the game became extremely repetitive and boring.

Before I played the Beta's my Hype for this game was a 10, after playing the Beta's it is a 1. Hope this helps.

Damar: I'd like to toss that smug little Vorta out the nearest airlock. And his Founder with him.

Gul Dukat: [laughs] Now, now, Damar, that's no way to talk about our valued allies. Not until this war is over, anyway.

Before the beta, around 8 for me.

Now, having tried Beta, max of 3. I wasn't even interested enough or intrigued enough to bother with the last week or so of beta.

More fool me, having pre-ordered from direct2drive.

    Lesson learned

more like people have been giving it 10´s when they knew nothing of the game

now after having a chance to rate it based on the actual game rather than expectatives, many are editting their hype to 1's

  • nWoLonewulfnWoLonewulf Member UncommonPosts: 28

I noticed that this games hype before BETA was around 8.30, now it has fallen to 7.97, I guess this explains that people really are not all that impressed with this game. If it fell that much in 2 weeks imagine what will happen after launch.

At the start of this post it was 8.25

Now its down to a 6.08.

I was excited for this game. But, after the beta I participated and to pretty much echo everyone elses complaints about the game I'm glad I passed on it. Hope it fails and shakes up the industry about releasing garbage for a quick buck is no longer acceptable.
