Acc creation page down??

Silver.Silver. Member Posts: 368

I just got home from work, was trying to make myself an acc, and then it said, I was too slow at making my account. And whenever I go to the account creation page it says:

I think you're not the only one with problems creating an account. And I also think I know why ;P

Well, it was expected that there would be an enourmous load on the servers. Especially on the sign-up servers. The thing I don't understand though, is the fact they use Java to power the servers. As we have seen in the past, Java powered web-sites just don't hold out long under extreme load. It takes a couple of thousand connections and it explodes.

The fact that I can not sign-up puts me down a bit. Got high expectations of the game, payed good money for a copy and you can't even play it. I hope blizzard will nail this problem real quick. Otherwise I might end up returning my copy and get a refund image

It's now 16:19 and the sign-up servers are still dead.

    Haha, welcome to WoW!

On the North American release day in November the system went kerplooey. They had to take everything off line for several hours and then some servers remained offline for 3-4 days. The system is still relatively unstable, there is significant server maintenance on Tuesdays every week that goes on for 4-6 hours and generally some servers are offline for longer than that and the login server is down as well.

It's the chink in the armor for WoW: technological infrastructure for the game is really, really poor.

You would think they learned from there mistakes in North America, but no it's terrible. And then there is the issue with gamecards. You need a gamecard or credit card to create an account but game cards aren't available until March 4th. So even though it says first month free, that is only when you already payed for the second month.

Hmm, since I can not connect to the signup pages, I still have to see what exactly is the thing with the free month. There are alot of games that require a credit card to validate your age, and they don't bill you for the next month without concent on your part.

However, I think I will have to wait till next week before I can log-on to the game. image Hope it's worth it :) Do write a memo to self: Don't ever buy a game on the opening week-end anymore. Just too much waiting before you can be happily churning through some undead.

    I pre-ordered from amazon 2 weeks ago.

Est. dispatch date is 14-15 though, which is crap, since I could pick up a copy from a shop now. I would have thought that pre-ordering would have meant dispatching at least same day as release, or before. Obviously not.

Still, maybe by next weekend the servers will be up, and stable so I'll not miss much waiting.

That's strange, I pre-ordered 2 days ago and have my copy, but i still cant make an account so its a bit useless.

    Account Creation Pages Down
    11/02/2005
We are aware that some players are facing problems when creating their accounts, especially with regards to the process of payment validation. Due to the heavy load on the system, we are therefore forced to take those pages down temporarily. While the pages are down, those players who have already created an account can continue playing the game. We are investigating the situation and will come back to you with more information as soon as we have it.

Got it from wow-europe.com hope it helps...

    Bah!

Peeved as I am at having to wait, especially since the weekend is here, it will probably be a rough few days with all those trying to connect.

Hmmm why should it be a rough few days.... If the company didnt already have your money someone would be fired :p

Maybe it's just bad luck, I preordered a month ago from bol.com and I found it in the mail when I got home from work today.

But I can't play atm due to the acc creation pages being down.

Oh well, I'll just go shoot some pool with a few friends of mine. Maybe the'll be up when I get back at midnight or so.

They ar going to add more payment options - when? That is not clear yet (proboply the sooner the better), somebody of the staff stated this.

Yeah, I am on top of the forums of the european site. But that message has been the same for ages. It seems that we will just have to sit this storm out, let the horde's of evil crashed servers pass by and hope they don't pick on you. image

Just hope that the staff works throughout the week-end, otherwise we might stare at the "Page unvailable" screen the whole week-end. image Anyway, not going to wait for the server to come up. I suggest we all do the same, throw the game on the shelf and not look at it for another two months or so. Then all things will be settled and the fog of the launch day will be lifted from the sign-up servers.

Patience is a virtue, but it's hard to keep it :)

    Arrrrrrrggggg... whyyyy Blizzard why???????

  • SpoonthieveSpoonthieve Member Posts: 84

A pretty disasterous day for Blizzard. The account creation pages have been down for hours and many players (including myself) are very frustrated by Blizzards lack of preparation for EU release. We are getting next to none feedback or ETAs when the pages are back up, and Thundgot is totally useless at giving us information (all he does is lock threads for "excessive" use of caps and pointless replies such as "I will tell you soon", and even "I don't know"). They better fix this problem soon as it is seriously hindering their good reputation.
