Me and my clan have been playing this free sandbox MMORPG called Haven & Hearth. You basically start out with nothing, so you have to pick apples to get food, farm, make houses and shit. It's basically survival, and you move up in the world, make houses which turn into small towns etc you get the deal.
So we'd like to be able to run off into the wilderness and build a little town or something, where hunting/gathering food would be required, and we could build general tools and weapons and stuff like that. Any games other than the game i just mentioned and Wurm that lets us do this?

Closest thing i can think of is fallen earth.
I am a old swg player that is looking for something along those lines as well. I just went and looked at Haven & Hearth and it looks interesting but I need better graphics and some sort of skill system for combat.
Group/clan based survival building game? Those two are probably only of it's kind, although I only have experience in Wurm. I haven't read up what all Mortal Online will have to offer, but I know that it's at least supposed to have more sandbox elements than Darkfall. Then there's LOVE, which I definitely recommend checking out. It's based on building and cooperation. A Tale in the Desert is also one, haven't played it myself.
Fallen Earth is rumored to have good crafting. If you like making money also you can make a neutral crafting clan in Darkfall and provide mats / gear to alliances that are rich (all alliances) and be successful like that.
I think Fallen Earth is a good example of what he is not looking for. It doesn't have survival feel; PvP is restricted to only certain areas, no proper death penalty, mob AI is really unintelligent, you don't need to fill basic needs such as eating and sleeping to survive. There's a lot of crafting, but can't freely create big structures and buildings. As far as I know, it's easily soloable. Only activities for clans are roleplaying and PvP in those areas that aren't meant for it.
may be an old game but Ultima Online you can build towns/castles/towers etc
I'm not sure if anything like that exists anymore. Sounds interesting though. I actually have an Idea for a game of this type, though...
Try Wurm. It's just like H&H in that you wander out into the wilderness and settle down. As a group you could start a village and take up roles, basically gotta make all your own tools and take resources dynamically from the environment (cut down trees, dig mine tunnels). Amazing game, and I'm very glad I found out about it when I did.
Oh yeah, the premium servers cost 5 euro a month to play in and deeds for single-player or village plots cost extra and require upkeep. The free server is a never-ending free trial though, so try it out as a group and get a starter settlement going if you can, probably best to get a taste before jumping in.
Didn't see the latter part about "not Wurm", but to that point, no I've seen nothing else that does wilderness survival (let alone terraforming/etc).

You can do all of that in Darkfall, just you'll need to have some double hard bastards in your clan because it's also FFA PvP with full loot.
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience"

Although it's not a "pure" Sandbox in any sense, the game Istaria (nee Horizons) has a lot of crafting options, and if you get their premium subscription ($15/month) you can build some pretty elaborate player housing.
The game is not all that easy, though, and it's going to take a good long while of training your Crafting skills to get to the point where you can build really elaborate houses (or if you chose Dragons as your race, really elaborate Dragon lairs).
It's not survival, though, so growing food is not required to stay alive. But the crafting system is very elaborate and rich, allowing the crafting and custom enchantment of weapons, armor, as well as making your own tools, etc.
Population is quite low, though there seems to be an increasing interest in the game the past few months.
They have a free forever option (limited to 1 character, a human, and no player housing) if you want to try it out. But the really cool crafting bits don't come until many, many hours played.
Can't find any links to this never heard of it i have played wurm online it is exactly what the op is looking for.
Wurm, A Tale in the desert is your only options. If you like economy based games with meaningful crafting then there is also EVE and Darkfall.
Avoid Fallen Earth. It's good game but it's themepark with no sense of survival at all. Crafting is good but after a while you realize you are crafting only for yourself. Trust me, I know what you are looking for (I also like survival games, that's why I play Darkfall). Fallen Earth is not it.
If you really like crafting/gathering you should also give Ryzom a try. Best crafting, gathering by far (well, A tale in the desert have good one but haven't played that much).

It has been mentioned here every now and haven't seen one single negative comment.
A tale in the desert is the closest I can think of.
I don't think there is hunting though, more-so foraging, fishing, and agriculture. I might be wrong though.
And there is no combat.
Sounds like Roma Victor would be perfect for you. I would wait to they release roma victor 2 in a few months though, there gonna be using a new engine with RV2. In roma victor there is just a one off payment (currently £10.00 while the offer lasts) and you dont have to pay monthly fees

Oh my god? You need Graphics? What has the gaming world come to?!
I have stressed this soo many times in soo many forums, that i lost count after 2: GRAPHICS DO NOT MAKE A GAME!
After all, Doom 2,(( Yes, doom TWO, not three.)) is rated higher than Halo ODSTSTST Or whatever its called
On another note, Pie > Cake? Why?
Pie = 3.14159326535897932384626433 83279 50288419716939937510
Cake = Lie
To the above poster, what you mean in graphics dont matter to you. A good chunk of gamers play games because of how they look, take crysis as an example and they don't really care THAT much about gameplay. And yes i prefer gameplay over graphics incase you start attacking me.
mm rune of magic is pretty much what you seek, lush graphic (a la wow)start from scratch and build your way to a nice keep with farm library the whole nine yard.a bit epic for me but if you like that style its a good game!
SWG
May have ben mutulated by SOE; but still has complex player housing, a solid crafting system, non-combat professions etc..
Other: Fallen Earth (new, good time to jump aboard), Darkfall (FFA PVP, if you are into that kind of thing)
/runs for cover ^^
Try Link realms
Sandbox? Crafting!?
If you dind't try www.ryzom.com already, you missed something!
Client is free 2 download. After creating a new Trial Account, you can play for 21 days the game w/o any restriction for free.
Try it! (monthly fee is 7.95€)
Game is developed by french team by the end of 2004, because it's totaly different than the main-stream and the former team was unexperienced, the game faced some problems, but is stable since 2008 again. (im still playing, since 2006)
Some Info on Crafting:
Nearly all Items inGame are made by players.
All the Mobs drop only Materials, that can be used for crafting (no Item grind)
You cannot repair Items, so Crafter are always needet.
Because of open-skill-system, everyone could craft (but not everyone likes to do, or got the time)
Real-Recipes: From the NPC you only learn the Brick, that for example tells you, that you need
9x fragments of ressource for the BLASE
8x fragemnts for the SHAFT
8x fragments for the GRIP
and 8x fragments for some counterweight
to make a Heavy Sword. Which materials or loot you use to make one, is your choice.
For Grip you can take hides from different mobs in different quality (basic from level mobs, excellent from named creatures and supreme from rare - not instanced bosses, that are spawn randomly) or materials like fiber, also different fiber types and different quality. You just need 8x Grip, what you mix there, is your choice end every mixture of materials effects the stats of the item you will produce - there are maaany combinations you can make - and you'll find REAL Recipes
There are Materials and Loot (first one you can gather nearly everywhere on the planet, second loot from mobs)
Material-classes are: basic, fine, choice, excellent and supreme. basic to choice you can get nearly everywhere and at every time, exzellent are a bit rare and often the right daytime, weather and sometines even saison (winter, summer etc) is needed to get them. Supreme you can get only in prime roots, very dangerous place, some parts even open pvp... supreme is really rare and expensive.
Whats abour earthrise? http://earthrisewiki.com/Main_Page
It's not released.
Putting in my two cents, if crafting is what you want:
- A Tale In the Desert
- Golemizer
- Vanguard
Check out the MUD I'm making!
It's not out yet, and some question if it ever will be, but when/if Mortal online comes out, it sounds like your cup of tea. It has player created towns, castles, cities structures, I haven't checked it out in awhile however.
