Mortal Online: Open Beta Begins Feb. 1!

MikeBMikeB Community ManagerAdministrator RarePosts: 6,555

StarVault AB has announced today that Mortal Online will be entering Open Beta on February 1st. The announcement is a bit confusing as it claims the game is now "beginning Release," but will instead be entering an Open Beta phase until the game hits "Gold status," in which case Mortal Online will be fully released and monthly subscriptions will begin.

The developers consider the game feature-complete at this point, and intend to announce discounts for the Digital Download version of the game sometime during the Open Beta phase.

[Thanks rlmccoy1987 for the tip!]

Good on paper, will look forward to playing it in this summer.

I like the game and see it has its potential but It painfully needs 6 more months of development and i can only afford putting 16$ a month to gaming so i wont start at launch.

Shame really, out of all indy games ever since Eve Online, only Fallen Earth has done things right

Yeah. It comes from a report intended for SV's stockholders, but Muckracker McCoy jumped on it and (big surprise) criticized it.

Well, since they are a stock company or whatever its called they need to inform their stockholders of anything that happends first.

Us fans/players will have to wait abit ^^ Im sure this will be in the newsections tonight though. But more info towards us players and not just info for stockholders.

Edit- Comnitus beat me to it ><

Awesome. That'll drop it down from $80 to about $70 for me :)

  • majinantmajinant Member UncommonPosts: 418

Yeah it is feature complete. Those features may be bugged, but they are in the game.

Ahh, I see.  So they could have just released the game 5 months ago with completely wacked out core features than waited and given us completely wacked out core features.  See what I don't think people are really understanding here is that major core features like combat are hard to change once a game goes live especially.  I mean I really hope people have come to terms that all of this is what we can assume to expect from StarVault in the future.

I'm not going to sugar coat it here, the game bites...the big one.  Yes they're hurrying to release the game knowingly unfinished for money sake, but I don't think people should really expect much better.  I mean they've claimed that they've been polishing these features, but since Block B, I've seen no improvement.  So they need to either use a different brand of polish or they need to completely rework most of these "core-features".

Open Beta is going to be good.  It'll really give people the chance to see what I'm talking about before they blow their money on this game.  This coming from someone who regrettably couldn't get a refund, all I'm saying is, really be sure you want to spend the money before you actually do it.  I mean I fall into the traps and buy a game I'm not completely sure about with the best of them.  And I do it all the time.  Heck, I just preordered All Points Bulletin.  Am I sure about it?  No.  But, I'll eventually find out whether I wasted my money again.  And this is all I'm trying to prevent from happening to anyone who hasn't already bought Mortal Online.

    Let's see...

Block B - login server open for a couple of minutes every hour, server up during European working hours only, repeated crashes, 50% of the continent in, no massive LOD, no full loot, no crafting, no houses, no mounts, no guild function, no skills.

Now - all the features they said would be in for release, bar a couple of areas of the continent.

There are two issues 1) there are a lot of bugs. Which we were expecting really. 2) some of the features are more basic than we hoped, for instance the melee combat doesn't have everything implemented that they tested in alpha.

I hope they can keep the Open Beta going as long as possible just to fix what's in, because you can make game out of it for yourself. I've had a blast in beta.

    From MO forums

Starting on Monday, February 1st, Mortal Online opens it's doors to the public with an open beta.

We invite the whole gaming community to step in the wonderful world of Nave. Join Mortal and experience a fantasticly immersive, beautiful and brutal sandbox MMORPG.

To join the open beta, simply create a game account (a forum account will automatically created).

Download the client, install and play.

The open beta will run on one cluster server based in Stockholm (Sweden). Please keep in mind that, depending on the onslaught of new players, we will have to cap the server at a certain point.

There will NOT be wipe before open beta.

AWSOME,...i got to pay full price to get into CBT .....i suspect that we are going to be putting this game in with the worst releases ever,in the recent past open beta versions of a game are also the release version or very cloe to the release version, this game is so far from ready for release that i wouldnt even call it a beta version, late alpha at best, i would like to point out, that, out of all the things that could be considered as "ready for release" the one thing i would like to point to would be information, there is absolutly no text in character creation to tell you about the races and there lore,..they can add that at any time you say? well you would be right,..so why have they never addded it to this point, they have strugled to get  the bugs out of the game, and have lots of bugs and glitches to get out of the game, my favorite is when i am in the middle of extracting at the grinder and someone uses the wonderfull bug that makes you unable to call for the guards...(.yes wyse i am talking about you :P that 48,000 granum should have been mine, you should learn not to pickpockets or attack players in a city) basicly bypassing the intended system of checks and balances, thats not the only over the top exploit or bug, whatever you want to call it, what i am trying to say is, they have been working on these things that are more important than text for so long they are going to go into open beta with out basic ingame info, not to mention that ,at this point, the crafting system is so convoluted youll be spending most of your first 4 days (real time not game time) learning books, looking for information  about crafting(wich in my opinion should be in game for the realism the y say they are going for)WAISTING MATERIALS, omg after 4 days u was able to make enough magic regeants to cast 4 spells, andi used over 100k materials,oh oh oh i almos forgot,..theres absolutly no pint to maxing out some of the skills, at 50 mining i can get 12 ore, somewhere between then and 75 you max out at 15,..after that all the point you put in are waisted,...trust me on this there is absolutly no reward for maxing, and no way(at this point of development)to getting those points back,...ok well ill stop here, i am sure you can see waht i am saying, and dont bother responding with how i am wrong, i am not wrong, i have poored through forums and wiki after wiki, talked to player after player, and most of them give conflicting information even though they are older beta testers,so i geuss i am saying do not buy this game and do not pay a sub for it,..untill its done, but i dont see that hapeneing for a long long time

I am getting confused. Is the Open Beta free?

It stated on the press release "The great success of our Christmas offers means we will be announcing a discount offer

on the Digital Download version during the time of free Open Beta. Read more about this

    offer at the store: www.mortalonline.com"

Why is there a discount on a free open beta?

  • majinantmajinant Member UncommonPosts: 418

i think what they mean is that they will offer the chance to BUY the game (and have it available when it launches) at a lower price. when the game goes gold it will cost the regular price again.

    but....

holly crap! this is the first REAL OPEN BETA that we have seen in a really long time!
