Xfire is horrible way to see how an MMO is doing anyways. I play a ton of different games with a lot of different people and not a single one of them uses it. Most have never heard of it.
Again with the Xfire stuff. People, its called "polling". We use it for Nielson ratings and taking polls before elections. It works. You do not need a 100% representation of users in order to generate accurate results. After a sample size of about 1000 your info becomes more and more accurate.
Listen. I have been playing Aion since OB1 and I won't quit until Star Wars the Old Republic (online) launch. Yes the population has fallen on my server (lumiel), like every MMOs after a hype start, it's simply because a game isn't made for everyone and after a couple of months some people go try something else.
But I believe (honestly and from my perspective) that the game is doing quite well. I am not waiting too long to find a party and my guild can recruit people at a good rythm.
Tthis is from Aion's offical site. Looks like they lost 23k accounts heheh.
We have been quiet regarding this topic lately, but that doesn't mean that we have reduced our efforts—to the contrary!
As explained in our recent GSU’s Message on Account Security, our fight against bots and gold sellers is not going to end tomorrow. We constantly ban accounts for bot use and gold selling/RMT. This month we enacted several massive bans totalling over 23,000 accounts in response to those issues.
We police the game for bots and gold sellers at differing times, avoiding recurring patterns so that our enemies cannot adapt to our efforts and avoid them. We do not want them to know in advance when we will be using the "ban hammer."
Our efforts will continue, and we will update you from time to time on our progress. We will derive great satisfaction when we see discussions about bots and gold sellers decreasing on our forums and fansites.
As we’ve mentioned in the message on account security: “Don’t use bots. Ever. . . . Don't buy in-game money.” If you follow that advice and urge your friends to do so, you will be helping to make Aion a great game experience.
Have fun, and play fair!
THis is from them too which is a good warning though and not a joke.
One of our largest and longest running fansites was the unfortunate target of a hacking attack earlier this week, resulting in the tragic theft of its e-mail database. While access to a list of e-mail addresses by itself will not allow anyone to compromise a game account, this list may be used for phishing, especially e-mail phishing. We have already seen an increase in phishing activity over the past week that may be a result of this theft.
The best way to avoid phishing scams is to avoid clicking links that have been sent via e-mail to you or posted in the forums. When in doubt, we recommend manually visiting official NCsoft websites and navigating to the suggested areas yourself.

For all you know Aion could have doubled in size last week, but 10 other games grew faster which made Aion #11.
The overall rank of xfire is meaningless.
Except when people are trying to brag about how much their game has grown and how popular it is.

The recent drop in Aion on Xfire is going hand in hand with the account hacks that have taken over this game.
It's xfire. Aion haters used to claim it's not a legitimate method, now they use it to "prove" aion lost population. Makes no sense..

so when haters claimed population fell and aion was maintaining it's position in #2, were they lying?
Wait... you aren't playing Mass Effect 2?

xfire is only good at measuring trends, not hard numbers.
and yes, haters use it all the time, just look at the trillion xfire topics on WAR and AoC, while im not seeing any xfire topics on WoW or EvE.
I don't know and I don't care. My point was that both sides use it and disparage it at the same time when it suits their purpose.

That's it's only use really.

I don't think "being somewhat stable since before end of December" equates to "falling sharply".
And it's xfire rank has been changing from 8 to 11 since a while, up on weekends/holidays, down mid-week which is normal fair.
But to be honest I'm surprised it hasn't declined since Mass Effect 2. I know I've been playing much less! xD
[Mod Edit]
I'm surprised anybody uses Xfire period anymore since Steam is vastly superior. >.>
