With the slow trickle of information and media for Funcom's upcoming MMOG, The Secret World, today's development is pretty huge. GameSpot has debuted a new The Secret World trailer, featuring the sleepy, and apparently zombie-infested town of Kingsmouth, which was recently revealed as part of Funcom's continuing viral campaign for the game.
"Welcome to Kingsmouth...Welcome to Hell."
Even the trailer is a tease, the footage is black and white and grainy. Oh Funcom, pull back the curtains already! We want to see!

but still, i followed this game before the marketing started and im still looking forward to it.
So do you think this will be like Tortage?
One of my favorite horror stories ever is Stephen Kings, 'The Mist, and this reminds me of it only more zombielicious.
My guess is that the game is made up of diverse areas, each one encapsulating some sort of supernatural or mysterious problem.
So one might be in a lovcraftian horror town one day and killing vampires the next.
And uh, er... stuff like that.

True. Also there are no levels so I am hoping that players start in different areas and don't progress via a treadmill.

haha darn Mike got to my post :P Anyways the game looks like or should I say the idea sounds like its going to be great but a lot we don't know yet. I'm trying not to be hyped since I have been disappointed many times with many other games.
And the fact they failed with AoC does not change my view of funcom since they did make AO and that was one the best games I have played.

Exactly. Very cool video, but I have seen very cool videos attached to crummy games before. Warhammer Online had a couple of very cool trailers.
If they release details on how many armour sets there are, and how easy it is to solo - run away. Fast.

I am confident that we will get 50$ box price worth of entertainment from this game for sure. The only thing I am unsure of is longevity. I will probably definitely pick up the game and play the first month at least.
I guess the approach to this game is actually intelligent.I am not overly big on this theme but i can see where they are going with it.
I guess night time will be dangerous because of the undead walking around.The game certainly has it's gimmicks that will attract gamers,such as the tournament based structure with rankings both player and clan wise.
Looks like the entire game is a sort of AA based game where you achieve some form of AA for everything you do,PVP/PVE/Crafting/exploring.With the massive amount of people looking for PVP,and the ranking system to boot,i think this game may have a large number of players even if it turns out to be poor quality.It could very well be another AOC,massive initial sales/subs then it will need a good game to maintain staying power.
Personally the game even interests me a bit,however i do much prefer a class system,it gives more definition to each player.Without a class system each player is just a name and a rank lol,oh well,will have to wait and see how fun it is to play and how much content quality goes into the MMO part of the game.

Anyone else get caught by surprise by this video? Everything else I've seen before this video seemed to point in another direction. I thought this was going to be an MMO with secret organizations spying on and killing each other for world dominence. Fog and zombies? COME ON! I just got alot LESS interested in this game.
Nope, this is what it's always been about. There are three secret organizations fighting the horror and evil, and each other. One of the reasons they fight each other is they have different ideas how to battle what is creeping into the world.
people sure is suprise to see zombies in this game if you read the comments at gamespot and one guy here. but really how you can miss it, the first cinematic trailer had a huge deamon in it and they did say the game will have vampires,deamons and yes zombies in it at PAX 2009. then you have PvP with will be 3 faction against each other fighting over resources i do hope they do a DAOC on that and it will be a blast.

Ah man I love the atmosphere of this game's world.
Everything that leaks about this game makes me want it more.
I can't wait to see what our characters are going to look like. I hope its not an Armor Based game and has some sort of Outfit system in it instead.
I wish people would stop comparing everything Funcom makes to Age of Conan, Funcom's been around awhile and they've made a lot of games other than Age of Conan that are absolutely nothing like AoC.

Those games were absolutely positively entirely and completely NOTHING like AoC and a hell of a lot more like the atmospheres being setup here for the Secret World.
I'm hoping for a better combat system n this game than the MMO standard, though. Zombies aren't fun if we're forced to click colored blocks on a hotbar 82 times to kill a single zombie.
We'll see, I guess.

Some people hate their marketing approach for this game, personally I'm enjoying it. Hoping it's truly a wonderful change of pace compared to other MMO's currently on the market whenever it is finally ready for release. The Kingsmouth video gives a good atmospheric feeling of what my mind expects the game to be like. Can't wait for the next thing they tease us with.
While the game does look interesting, after what happened with AoC, I won't touch the game until a good 3-4 months after release.

Because of the state that AO, and AoC released, there's a lot of distaste for Funcom. I would point out though that the "brain trust" that launched both these games is no longer with Funcom, in fact he should get a restraining order keeping him at least 20 miles away from any MMO in development. AoC started becoming a decent game when they pulled Craig Morrison off of AO, and AO became a decent game because of the direction he provided. This time around it's fully Tournquist(sp?) baby, and he created Dreamfall, and contributed to some of the more interesting mechanics in AO.
Im really glad they arent just releasing "Pumped up" trailers with enchanced graphics and scripted combat. AOC did this, and it got everyone hyped in the wrong way.
They are showing much more thought with their story, and world for this game. Im really hoping for a in game trailer though within the next 6 months. No fancy graphics just good gameplay.
Two things make me very excited for this MMOG. One is the Lovecraftian and conspiracy theme, and the other is Ragnar Tournquist at the helm... I am very much looking forward to seeing more.

yes since hes the head of this project im just hoping that the game at release will be fully featured (unlike any earlier FC mmos at launch), but it really is speculation till full release. lets just hope he can prove us wrong.

I have been waiting for a horror/gothic MMO for sooo long. I couldn't be more excited for this game. Please, oh please let it be good. 3 factions, multiple real-world settings, classless and skill based . It's promising everything I want in an MMO. I might have to sacrifice a goat or something to get the gods to make sure this is as awesome as it looks.
