Apparantly the input lag is game design.

When I click the LMB to swing my weapon, my character hesitates to swing for two seconds. A mod replied to my thread that this is by design to allow people to block. I don't get the logic. Are they given a warning saying: "Such-and-such clicked button to swing. Prepare to block!"

It's one thing if there is a 2 second activation time before the attack goes off, but it is a basic software engineering principle to always try and give the user immediate visual/audio feedback whenever they click or do any recognizable action.

Cryptic is trying a Customer Development approach to MMO creation.

Interesting, sounds like a care bear turn based system, not real time combat. Just one more nail in the coffin of the next DnL.

Most of the game, as you'll find when you play it, is full of bad design.

There is no cohesion in any of the design of any of the systems, their "design philosophy" is to take UO systems and throw them into MO, barely working properly and hope that it recreates the same game experience.

Unfortunately, they also went with a totally different view than UO had and much of what they implement (ie, statloss) does not show any logic or thought on their part to the consequences of taking one game and dumping it into another. It's a big bag of fail. Keep playing. You'll see.

Fixed your erroneous adjective. Its not turn-based though. You just have to learn to attack two seconds before you want the animation to execute.

Man, that gives leading your target a whole new meaning. Gonna suck having to shoot an arrow or fireball 2 seconds in front of a target LOL

EDIT: BTW the care bear comment was totally facetious and aimed at the "hardcore" pvp players.

Are you guys sure this is intended?  The other night I logged in for the first time since early beta block A and I swung my axe and many seconds later I got stamina loss.  That seems like lag to me.

That's the stupidest thing i ever heard.

I mean it dont have to be as fast paced as DF but when you do something it better be done asap

Wow and people actually dared to state MOs melee system is better than DF?

Tell me about it. Even DF and its horrible combat system is way better than MO's system.

Darkfall has a really good combat system.  Don't know what you are talking about.  Stay on topic.

Agreed, by far the best combat system of any MMO out right now, in my opinion of course.

Delay for attacks? Sounds an awful lot like most MMO's to me.

There are two kinds of people in this world. People who pick their nose.. and liars.

    Begone foul solicitor!

Also I must disagree with you on the labeling of the thread. The game is not semi-turn-based. However what there is is a very palpable delay when you input the attack command. From my view your thread title isn't descriptive but rather dramatic and going for shock value; whereas my title was meant to display the cause and effect relationship of the attack process. My title also says "wtf are they thinking?"

I will partially disagree.   I absolutely loath melee, but the magic and archery  combat are done nicely.  Although everything about it seems to be a bit out of balance, but it works.

at least they should make the toon grun yell or i dont know make him do animation for 2 second lol not just pause there for 2 second

    it should be like :

its not delay.... you need to charge?...

like click hold and release, not just click.

  • AnnwynAnnwyn Member UncommonPosts: 2,854

Sure didn't take that long for players to start finding flaws about the game....sigh. Hopefully Mortal Online won't flop and StarVault better start listening to their user or else you all know what's going to happen. You all know how DarkFall looked at launch and how long it took for them to make the game at least "fun" (5 months I believe) and a second expansion 6 month later finally the community is growing.

Well I guess I really won't bother giving MO a try until 5-6 months have passed.

But that would mean the charge will give more damage right?

as is its just well a delay..not a charge

Donr you guys dare to compare MO to Darkfall...

MO is light years worse is every way...

And for starters...you cant compare a finished game like darkfall to a alpha game like MO.

I think you are being delusional there. DarkFall is far from a "finished" game. There aren't as many bugs as there was in the past but it's still far from a "finished" state. DarkFall remains a good game though.

pretty unfair comparison considering the abominable state DF was in at its release.

Weapon speed depends on the weapon and your skills.

Every weapon has a charge and release time. The heavier the weapon is the more noticeable it is. And the starter axe is slow, so it doesn't become a viable weapon, and it's noticeable.

There is no definite 2-second delay before all combat actions, it's a combination of bad weapon and lag that makes it seem like there is a large delay. A well balanced weapon doesn't have an insanely noticeable delay. That being said, pvp combat isn't supposed to be a weapon spamfest like some other games.
