EVE comparisons...

HerculesSASHerculesSAS Member Posts: 1,272

I know a lot of MO supporters want to think that MO is going to grow over time like EVE.

Please understand the difference. EVE had a 'killer feature' in its PvP and political intrigue. The gameplay for that part alone, was what kept players playing over time, and how it grew. It was released in an era where graphics weren't that amazing to begin with, and it was a space game that took place in you know -- space. It didn't need a lot of graphics.

For the comparison, MO would have to have a killer feature that's implemented perfectly. It's not PvP. The "sandbox" element of the game doesn't exist.

So I'm open for debate... what is MO's killer feature, that works perfectly and is amazing compared to other games? I mean, if we want to make the EVE comparison, that is.

I believe the compairson is there to help people understand that there are few restrictions on what players can become.

And who knows, maybe in several months this game could completely turn around if the number of people who play stick around.

MMOs Played: I can no longer list them all in the 500 character limit.

Given some more cash and a year + of development this would be a fantastic game.  (and would o realized 3rd person melee and mounted is the best way to go).  But in the end this games i releasing to early.  We are not even talking about comparison AOC to early or  warhammer or darkfall to early.  This game should not even be in public beta testing.

I am sorry i hope the best for this game.  And like what they are shooting for.     But i do not see it surviving,  This game is roma victor 2.0 in all the bad ways.

I've got a question. Why do we want to make any comparison at all? Eve should be its own game as MO should be its own game.

You got space sandbox and fantasy sandbox.

Dunno what exactly what you want to debate its kinda of pointless if you ask me.

I don't know, but every time people discuss it that support MO, they are convinced it's going to grow like EVE.

There's really no evidence to support that growth, because MO doesn't match EVE in almost any category.

These are two totally different enterprises.

MO already has the engine and is only limited by funding and manpower.EVE did go bankrupt and can only thank their niche player base for surviving at all.

EVE has been trying for too many years to get their game to where the devs intended it to be,even now they have 500 employees and still struggle to get the simplest ideas put into the game, over 2 years they have tried to implement simple walk in space stations, where as MO is basically a total 2 year project.

I believe that if MO has the support that EVE got and did not really deserve, then it will easily surpass EVE's goals and far surpass MO's goals. It comes down to two major factors, that game engine and demographic,EVE's political structure is a total turn off for female players, where as player housing and fancy weapons and gear, mounts can attract female players to MO.

MO will always have at least the "chance" to expand ,including PVE players and females, where as EVE is pretty much stuck in their own design,it will imo always remain a niche crowd.

These two games and design are like comparing movies to football,a larger demographic will enjoy movies, but only a niche crowd will enjoy football.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

The only people looking to support this game are UO vets and maybe a few curious people. Eve and Darkfall had some rocky starts the only evidence of this game maybe doing the same is those 2 games. Only time will tell. Yes, the world is missing alot hopefully they can add something by the time the end of this open beta who knows. Even still this is in rough shape, but alot of UO vets are kinda looking forward to this.

UO vet here also, must echo Herc. BTW I am no longer looking forward to this game and not a single UO vet I know is.

You see most of us have grown up in the last 10+ years and are no longer looking for empty undeveloped game worlds to spend our money on. Some of course are still children and haven't grown up.....and it shows.

And those are the types of people that will continue to "support" Starvault for months and months even if they do not play it anymore.

Pure speculation imo.  When (if?) the game is released and players are able to play the game, is when it will be decided if the game will succeed or fail... unfortunately, gamers are less forgiving now than they were when Eve was first released, they expect more, for one thing, and are less likely to take promises for fixes/improvements at face value. The battle to draw players from other games, and keep them, will be difficult, especially with so many other games currently in development and nearing their release dates - even good games will struggle.. bad ones.. or at least.. games that are initially perceived to be bad.. may well sink without trace.

You should speak for yourself. The game mechanics are similar to UO. I didn't say it was an exact copy of it.The OP posted a comparison to EvE and this game. This game is nothing like EvE to be compared of other than maybe a sandbox.

Yep the world is empty and undeveloped that can be assured. Yes alot of people don't wanna spend their money on a game thats have any content in it me being one of them. As far as the chidlish comment don't even know what your refering to.

When EVE was launched did people think the combat and political intrigue was "perfect"  and a killer feature?  The first post on this web site is from 7 months after launch, so it's hard for me to say.  I imagine that 7 months after MO launches the people still following it will be discussing it in different terms than they are today.
