just got EQ2 - crashes when click play

in Everquest II

I just got EQ2 today and after installing, updating, and making an account i get this error message when i click on play, it says that EQ2 requires DirectX 9.0c (believe me, i have itimage) all my drivers were updated last month so it shouldn't be that bad... system specs are:

AMD Athlon 64 3500+

ATI Radeon X800xt graphics card

1 gig pc3200 OCZ ram

sounblaster audigy2 zs soundcard

80gig hd maxtor i think

    when i run dxdiag it says that i have directx 9.0bimage

    Then deinstall it and make sure you have 9.0c this time :)

    try installing 9.0c again, you probably have to uninstall the 9.0b first (download it from the microsoft website and try it, if you got it from a game disk, it may not work right. if you havent done this already.)

    I got this type of error because of a resolution problem. I would try changing the resolution options before pushing play. After it patches just before hitting play click on game options and change the resolution to something else.

    My situation was probably a little different, but the resolution setting in there had changed to a larger resolution than what was set on my graphics card in the display properties of windows. That's what caused the error and crash of eq2.

    Just a thought...might be a different situation than yours.

    well i googled this issue and it seems that 9.0c won't install until you uninstall 9.0b for alot of people, so how do i uninstall 9.0b?image thanks to all for trying to help.

    i figured out how to uninstall directx 9.0b but that didn't do anything. when i start the installation for 9.0c and click on next at the license agreement screen it just instantly goes to an installation complete screen(without installing directx) installation for 9.0b works but not 9.0c and unfortunetely eq2 requires 9.0c. they got damn chimpanzees working at microsoftimage
