is dead space worth the 7€?

majimaji Member UncommonPosts: 2,091

Since Dead Space is right now available for less than 7€, is it worth it? Anyone of you played it? Or is the controls or something too annoying that you'd rather skip it?

Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)

Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)

Has a good story. a good variety of weapons. controls at first will feel awkward but you will get used to it, great details, and for me personally was not scary but for others it is.

All in all for me was a good shooter nothing special but good although a bit short.

  • I got and tried it. Now it stand and collect dust: I should maybe try to sell it, but then again I will spare the pure soul from this crappy game.

Best horror shooter since doom 3 if you ask me, though the game has very little replayability.

Combat always kept me tense the whole way through, knowing that shit could come busting out of a wall or grate sright behind me or something, and the storyline, while slow at the beginning, is pretty interesting.

The controls were perfect if you ask me, your character is decked out in some heavy equipment and thus, does not move very fast, and can't switch around the other direction like in RE4, which puts you at a disadvantage in a lot of situations.

Dead Space was a great game for what it was worth. For 7 euros, it's a steal. At the hardest difficulty, it's definitely very scary, as you're not overly powerful and you have to keep watching your back. The atmosphere of the game is very well done. I haven't been this scared since System Shock 2, so I guess that counts for something.

The best way to describe Dead Space is:

Resident Evil 4 + Doom =  Dead Space

It's an adventure/shooter w/ a control scheme more akin to Resident Evil 4 then other modern FPS's. The pacing is slow, and deliberate w/ more focus on precise shooting then the usual run and gun all out full-auto type of stuff you find, where you are given a very limited supply of ammo and supplies and you need to make every single shot count. The bad guys will NOT die if you just try to unload ammo into em indiscriminately...well they will eventually, but it will take MUCH more ammo then if you take aim and dismember and/or decapitate them. You see, one of the coolest things about Dead Space is that in order to be the most efficient, you have to aim to dismember and/or decapitate the mobs to kill them quickly. A simple head or heart shot just won't cut it, you need to actually cut them apart to kill them, it's really pretty neat.

I really enjoyed Dead Space, it's a great game and a welcome departure from the typical FPS's many dev's churn out these days. If you enjoy actually having to strategize and being somewhat careful in when, and more importantly HOW, you use your ammo and other supplies then you'll enjoy Dead Space. Like I said earlier, it's kind of like Resident Evil 4 or 5 in space w/ some crazy Doomish, demonic, horribly disfigured creatures scaring the hell out of you here and there. If that sounds like fun, then pick it up, I know I personally found it be a great game.

Fantastic survival horror game.  I snagged it for $5 a few weeks ago.  I would've paid full price knowing what I know now.   The only thing wrong with it, besides a few animation glitches are the controls.  Apparently every survival horror game has to have less than stellar controls to be considered survival;)  Almost everytime I died it was always due to not being to switch weapons fast enough or the crazy close over the shoulder view which makes seeing behind you impossible.  You have to crank the mouse sensativity up to max to have any chance to aim properly.  Some PC optimization would've been nice.  Why can't they all control like Gears of War?

Play on hard, at night with the lights off and with headphones and take the game in.   Best survival horror game besides maybe the earlier Silent HIlls.

Good, worth it. But if it doesn't work than don't bother.

I played it and enjoyed it. Not a bad game for that price.
