I think it's a fun game, and that's all that really matters. It doesn't matter to me anymore, like it once did, that the game doesn't have this or that feature or wasn't made with the typical MMO formula in mind. All that matters to me now when it comes to entertainment, is if it's entertaining. STO is fun, immersive, and entertaining. Does that mean I'm a lifer, or that I couldn't nitpick the game to death and find many things to dislike about it? No, but the purpose in buying and playing a game isn't to analyze it for everything that's wrong or could be done better, it's to enjoy it for what it is.
Havent gotten very far yet but for now I really like this game. I didnt have a slightest intention to buy this but after playing the beta I just had to. Mostly its the non generic MMO feeling that the game is giving me fancys me.
Yeah, I feel the same. I wasn't planning on buying STO, because it didn't have player ran crews and it didn't sound like Cryptic was trying to bring the experience of the shows to the game, but I ended up buying it anyways due to boredom and a lack of MMO playing for several months. I'm pleasantly surprised about STO.
The non-generic MMO feeling is probably a lot of the reason why I've lost myself in STO. I don't feel the need to watch my xp bar, not that I understand how levels and the xp bar works in this game to begin with, nor do I feel the need to get the best ship components, weapons, and gear, and the missions are all engaging enough to make time pass by fast without knowing where it all went.
I do close the chat box, but only because it has post-WoW typical conversations, so the game does feel more immersive for me.
I am having a great time. The game really surprised me. Now if I could just get more people to join me in Club 47... yup the space dock has a club!
I usually visit Club 47 when I'm in port, but I never see any other officer's there. Hopefully in time, more officer's will stop in and take a load off.
everyone who posted positive posts should be re-polled in one month. It'd be neat to see what the posts look like. that's the true tell of a good MMO. I'm sure there's already Admirals in game.
Actually, you're wrong. A MMO is still a game, thus needs to offer its money's worth like any other game. If STO is fun just for a month, it was worth the price, especially compared to single-player games that only last a week. So a poll in one month might show you whether or not people feel the game is fun for another month of subscription, but it wouldn't negate the fact that many find it fun for at least a month.
As for Admirals being in the game, I wouldn't know, nor do I care, and why would I care? I play the game to have fun, and I'm having fun. What others do in the game is of no consequence to me. If they rush through the game, barely sleeping, then it's their life and their money, so more power to them.
I would be but the ob didnt work good for me, by the time i got the thing downloaded and installed 4 days were gone, then it would not work right, then after all that the server was full, I did manage to get in and play the first 4 missions, then the game crashed and would not work again. I didnt get enough time to know if i want to pay or not.
It will also be interesting to see how many of the haters are still around after one month.
Haters are eternal, see SWG, WOW, DFO, VG, AOC, EVE etc etc.
Of course some folks will love the game, some for only a short time, others for perhaps years to come, all depends on ones gaming preference.
But the true measure of an MMO's success is how well it retains subscribers over the long haul, and I suspect STO will fail in this regard. (as do most other games, few have any staying power)

I'm loving the game so far, it has a lot of potential for future expansions and space combat is fairly good. Ground combat could be better, but no mmo is perfect, and as far as I know no mmo can do what STO has done with the combined ground and space combat.
I'm having fun with the game, i would have loved a more simulation based star trek mmo but nobody is gonna put that kinda money out for a game. Cryptic has a lot to do to keep me staying long term though, but for now i'm having fun and that's all that matters to me.

I'd have to disagree there. SWG's combo of space/ground puts STO to shame. Ship interiors, ridiculous customization in terms of ship loadouts, ability to craft and tweak every part on the ship, twitch / pseudo flight-sim controls, I could go on but you get the idea.
I didn't care for the ground combat in SWG because I found it too melee-focused when compared with it's source material, but it was light years ahead of STO in implementation, options, and complexity.
Pretty sad that a six year old game was superior in every way except for the graphics. That's ultimately why I canceled my pre-order.
I honestly think that StarTrek Online is going to fail The top signs I have seen so far. Offering of Special Preorder items the same as a lot of failed games I have Played. Then LifeTime Subscriptinons to those who have like $300 to spend or something?

Yeah Ive thought about trying STO to see if its really great, The Videos look good ect. But they hold out of a lot of details of the actual play, You can make a video look amazing, and leave out you have to click this to activate this skill, or Hold w to move here and there ect. They dont actually so the interface ect. I tried to get into beta to see if it was actually good or not, and hope there are Trials in the future as well to see if its actually worthit to me. by the game play other than the offical videos that Cryptic released to me it didnt look good at all.

I am. Yes there has been alot of server down time for last 24hr, but as we all know, that happens. The game doesn't officially launch until Tuesday. I'm having an absolute blast playing the game. I didn't have very high hopes for this game. Mostly due to this website. Fortunately for me and thousands of others. The game has has blown be away with how much fun it is. No the graphics aren't stellar and there are issues. The main things to remember are : how is gameplay? is it fun? Well, the game play is a great mix of both space ation and ground action and yes there is crafting . I love finishing up my land or in ship battles and then beaming back to my ship and engaging in space battles, it fun!

The reason i got bored is cuss of the freedom is taken out from the game, i wanna have that feeling of freedom, "you cant beem down to a planet just to explore it , that sucks big time,
For the gameplay when you acctyuly play the missions are great , but otherwise its nothing for me, if someone cant tell me something els to change my minde regarding the freedom issue, since i am a persen that turn my cape afterh the wind.
I like the game but I'd like to see more explorable places with things to actually do. A crafting system, a real one, would be nice too. Personally right now, if they made instanced 'housing' where fleets could have their own starbase etc, then I'd be playing this for quite some time.

You are correct. That is why I have always pushed for a playable Ferengi Alliance. I'm not a big fan of that race, but I would roll one just so I could make things and sell them.
Yes I am having fun playing the game, and yes there are things that could be improved or added to make the game better. I love both the Space and ground combats, customization, episodes, skills and leveling. The exploration is fun enough but could use larger areas with more stuff to do in my opinion. Crafting would be a nice addition as the Collection and turn in doesn't do it for me. All in all plenty of Star Trek atmosphere with plenty of company to enjoy it with!

Thanks for all of the positive feedback. I'm glad to see that others were as surprised as I was at how engaging this game is.
It's not like Wow, or Eve or Aion or any of the rest. That's what I like about it. It's just fun, with no feeling of grind whatsoever.
