Champions Online players have been disappointed with Cryptic Studios' level of communication in recent months.
In the interest of improving communication going forward, Jack "Jackalope" Emmert has taken the time to respond to players' concerns, offering players a bit of an olive branch in asking them what they would like to see from Cryptic as far as communication goes:
A while ago, I said I'd press the gas on communication. So Arkayne started posting more regularly. And Bill is back doing his State of the Game.
Now, there's other things that I'd like to see - as a player - but I'm more interested in what you'd like to see. Could be features about powers - or dev backgrounds - or a Q&A. Just post here and I'll be checking out your responses.
What do YOU want for communication?
[Thanks to Christopher8 for the tip!]

I think this falls under the "too little, too late" category.
Maybe the guys like Bill Roper can swallow that branch and choke in it?
As what do they expect? After so many people have been ripped off with Champions Online and now more people with STO?
Please. Give us a break. As the only piece of communication people want to see right now, is a news article stating that Cryptic stops making MMO's.
A good first step would be to fire Bill Roper and any of his sycophants and never give them work on any game anywhere ever again. Then completely throw out anything he had a hand in designing in any way shape or form. Then maybe we can talk...

There is some serious irony in the posts above mine. I'll let you find it but give you a hint - read the signatures.
Anyway, the developers have made a nice first step in rebuilding the communication lines with the player base. In that thread you'll see I made a post that urged the developers to play the game with us and one of the first items they changed was to do just that. They will be having a developer PvP time this Friday evening. (I'm not sure I'd like to call it an event but just a time to battle them in the lvl 40 PvP)
As always, if anyone is interested in trying the game out then let me know. I can email you a demo key for 15 day trial with no level cap.
I don't understand all the venom towards Cryptic and CO. I look at the MMORPG Site Rating and User Rating for this game, and they are pretty high. I read the comments here, and on the CO site, and they are full of venomous and disillusioned players.
Why are these two things so far apart? Are the comments posted from a very small minority of players, or are the ratings bought and paid for?
Not flaming or calling anyone out really, I just want to know the lay of the land before considering purchasing and playing another Cryptic game (played CoX for a while).
I suggest a different text colour, as this post is virtually unreadable in a bright room.

Zionnax,
I've given your questions some thought myself and there isn't really a good answer. I think it's a combination of Bill Roper's past (Hellgate), CoH's past (I keep hearing about the purple patch and ED patch), poor communication on the direction of CO, the launch day difficulty patch for CO and members who regrett buying a lifetime sub.
Most people generally like the game and see that it has a ton of potential. The negative comments are more about these external items then the actual game itself.
I have played since the end of closed beta and love the game. I find the freedom of a classless system and the shiny newness really make it a fun game to me. The only reason I would tell someone to not play this game is if they are not ready for the more soloness CO has over CoH. Teams are not required in CO except for a few missions/lairs. It really isn't hard to find teams for those missions at all though.
PM me your email address and I'll send you a demo key. Try it out and see for yourself.

I am Adogg5 and I made windo... I mean Champions Online.
I'm not gonna point any fingers (Adogg5), but someone (Adogg5) doesn't know what whining is (Adogg5), but they apparently know how to be a sycophant.
P.S. It's Adogg5.
See what I did there?
Thanks for the information!
I'm curious to see what you think about it after playing it.

I am as well. I couldn't enjoy CoX for more than a couple weeks at a time before it became boring for me. With a trial, I won't know that, because they usually don't give you enough of a window of opportunity to find that out.
That being said, a fair number of games lately have bored me within the first week. So I may find out sooner than I would normally expect. If it's engaging for the trial period, I would consider buying it.
After I try it, I'll PM both you and Adogg, and let you know what my impressions are.
Throughout CO's alpha and beta, they asked for feedback, responded to us in writing, delivered on nothing, watched the forum get heated while remaining deathly quiet.... then out of the blue they announced they wanted feedback, responded in writing, delivered on nothing, watched the forum get heated while remaining deathly quiet... suddenly they announced they wanted feedback....
Prior to CO's release you would probably have seen Cryptic as one of the most appreciated and respected mmo developers out there, but ultimately actions speak louder than words and this suggestes they are either inept, impotent or just dont care.
EDIT: The CO trial is ample time to determine whether you will enjoy the game or not, by level 6 you will have experienced every mission type, every variation in enemy AI and seen a part of the best looking (by far) zone in the game, if you make a few alts and vary your build you will also be able to determine that your powerselection makes no difference whatsoever to the mechanics or responses given by the game.
I see what you are saying. I can imagine that would be extremely frustrating, on time of showing complete disrespect to your fanbase.
This is one of the reasons I TRY not to follow games in development. More times than not, I end up disappointed with the product and the developer. I rather just ignore them until a few months after launch, pick them up, play them, and decide for myself. Note...this is not optimal, as I have wasted countless dollars on crappy games that weren't even worth the $49.99 box price.

It was very frustrating and down right insulting sometimes.
After reading your post about your thoughts on most of the current MMORPGs, I don't think you are going to like Champions.
The writing is bland. The plot lines are pretty much ripped straight out of City of Heroes, but were actually originally in the Champions table top game books. How's that for some craziness?
The game play isn't as fun as City of Heroes. I just can't get into the whole build up to blow up thing. Even after they made the change where you start out with a full endurance bar, it still sucks. I don't understand why they stayed with the combat mechanics in the face of massive negative feedback all through alpha, closed beta, AND open beta.
It's even more mind boggling when you realize that the whole game revolves around combat, so wouldn't you want that aspect to at least be enjoyable and engaging? The way it's set up seems to rob the players of any meaningful combat experience that would require varying strategies.
The game tends to play as a one size fits all mentality where combat is concerned.
I really hope that Cryptic isn't planning to use the same engine for their announced, but untitled new project.
I would say the combat is acutally my favorite part. However, I can understand it's not what everyone is looking for. My biggest concern is that I wished ChampionsOnline was more like City of Heroes in regards to the holy trinty (tank, support, DPS). Instead it is too focused on solo play and turns everyone into a regen scrapper type build.
If they changed that single aspect, Teaming, this game would be a very good game.
