The ever elusive MMORPG FPS/TPS

WiwyumWiwyum Member Posts: 6

Hi guys, first time poster here. I have gone round and round in circles searching the internet for the ultimate MMORPG FPS/TPS.

I have noticed a few names cropping up more often than others but I can't find enough information to convince me.

I bought Global Agenda presuming it was exactly what I always wanted, only to realise that it was just a glorified Unreal Tournament with none of the qualities that I was really searching for from the game.

I am basically looking for a Fallout 3 FPS with the MMO depth and qualities of WoW (and the open level nature of both). I appreciate that I may be asking for a game that wont see the light of day for another 10 years, but anything there or there abouts would be greatly appreciated.

Just a few more bullet points, just in case the forum becomes inundated with suggestions (Yeah, right !) to whittle down the numbers - refining the search to the perfect game...#

- Ideally open level. I love wandering in the wilderness and bumping into someone, striking up a partnership and defeating beasties left right and centre with your new buddy.

- An economy of sorts, a means to buy and sell, trade amongst others. Call it an auction house if you will, but basically just a means of making money and making shrewd purchases that benefit you in the game. I've always enjoyed that additional dimension.

- Maybe professions... you might be seeing the WoW influence here. Don't worry i'll be stealing more ideas.

- Gear! One thing that winds me up intensely about Global Agenda is that gear is merely a cosmetic luxury (In terms of armor) and is terribly restricted in the weapons department (Would you like gun 1,2 or 3... decisions, decisions) I love in WoW making, finding, grinding for.... that one thing you always wanted!

- PVP... obviously important for alot of online multiplayer games. Not to hack away at Global Agenda again, but I always preferred the idea (because i'm yet to actually play a game like it) that FPS pvp is more slow and tactical. Less running around in circles and pew pew pew to the point where you just throw your keyboard at the wall. Something with a slower pace, more tactical and thought out.

There are tonnes more things that I can think ofbut the lack of realism that i'm bringing to the table with my request makes me feel slightly stupid so I won't pursue it any further. These are just guidlines by the way... i'm sure there's a tonne of you that know exactly what I mean without me having to explain it.

Furthermore i'd like to say sorry to address an issue that I know you guys have tackled already (and probably more times then i know of) but i just need the definitive game and you seem like the people that can provide the definitive answer.

Thank you so so much to anyone that took the time to read this biblically sized snorefest - and even greater thanks to those that try and help.

xD

neocron 2 meets all your requirements, if you can actually get to play it

other than that there are the sandbox games, fallen earth and darkfall with mortal online coming soon

you could also try dungeons & dragons online which is a bit of a mixture but could be worth a try since it went free

How do you mean sorry buddy? I cant believe there is a game that meets all the requirements already... and I might not be able to play!  :|

(Edit) P.S. What is a sandbox game?! (n00b question)

     Yeah, I'd recommend Neocron 2.

    Nevermind, I'd recommend WWII Online.

    Thank you, siggy!

Tabula Rasa would have fit the bill pretty well, unfortunately they pulled the plug.  Am I the only one who saw any potential in that game?  So much fun blowing shit up.

CB player, myself. I loved it. Didn't have the finances to play when it came out, unfortunately. =[

     Why not neocron 2 anymore?

I'm confused... does it not operate anymore?!

I cant believe there is a game that meets all the requirements already... and I might not be able to play!  :| company behind neocron got into financial trouble and moved their resources over to their in development game black prophecy, because of this they lost the ability to use paypal as a payment option and the best way now to open an account is through click2pay which is efiing useless and difficult to get working outside the eu.  On the other hand it means neocron 2 is free until they get things sorted(and looks like being free for a good while yet)

(Edit) P.S. What is a sandbox game?! (n00b question) sandbox is an unrestricted mmorpg, open world with usually little to no instances, no levels or profs to grind but based upon skills e.g. you improve  your sword skills by fighting things with a sword rather than grinding xp to level.  They will explain things better on each of the games websites if u want to look

Karahandas, I made my Neocron account paying through PayByCash. I just got 2 Ultimate Game Cards and paid it off that way.

  • WiwyumWiwyum Member Posts: 6

Assuming that Neocron 2 is a no go... is WWII Online a substitute that fits my ridiculous criteria? Are there other alrernatives that fit the bill othert than those listed?

  • ThanoThano Member Posts: 2

Check out Fallen Earth. I think it fits the bill pretty well.

my mistake then. Some ppl where having trouble with pbc and cards a while ago.  Either been sorted or it was just them having trouble and nothing to do with the method

mortal online is probably what you seek

darkfall might fit the bill also.

eve online is the master of all tho if you like sci-fi!

WWII online is fun nuff, Though underpopulated for the games scope. Also WWII online has no Epix Lootz. Mortal online is pretty much the game you need, though its not out yet.

And i was also disappointed with Global Agenda. To be quite frank, the game is crap. Not nuff content or openness for mmorpg, and plenty of FPS do a better job at the shooting, so meh.

TBH there isnt a good mmofps out with epic loots. Theres not even that many good MMOFPS games, maybe just planetside, WWII online and a few others. IDK why no one can just make tribes 2 a mmo xD

The Neocron 2 Trial refuses to even open and install on my pc, and unfortunately Fallen Earth plays like garbage. Everything about the shooting and controls looks and feels horrid.

Any other suggestions folks? Or is it just a case of waiting for the 2010 MMORPGFPS releases for something truly concrete?

Why wont Interplay just sell the rights to Bathesda, and let them make a Fallout3 MMO. Thats literally all i want. Not too much to ask is it ?

    :*(

what mirror did u try to download nc2 and did u make an account first?(also try the nc2 forums here for more help if u want)

other than darkfall or ddo there are the space shooters like jumpgate or vendetta

and if none of these then it is likely a case of waiting and see if maybe mo, earthrise or the like will suit

With all due respect, hell no.

Interplay has the original Fallout devs working on Fallout Online.

Fallout 1 and 2 were 10234244875684756928475689748576983456x better than the bullshit Oblivion full-conversion mod Bethesda put out on us Fallout fans.

Fallout was never intended to be a shooter and it was never intended to have a world that was the same every playthrough.

I fell in love with Fallout 3. I just loved everything about it it was almost an obsession. So strange to hear that you didnt like it ! But thats fair enough of course. Personally tho, that would be my idea MMO. Fallout 3 but even bigger map, and just more of that MMORPG depth. *Drools*

Earthrise fits the bill well, it comes out later this year. Third person shooter combat, completely player driven economy where everything is crafted, and a huge focus on PvP. A new gameplay vid is due out soon to replace the now out-of-date vids that no longer represent the current gameplay.

Fallen Earth fits your description to a T.  It is a post-apocalyptic FPS/MMORPG with an open world, auctioneers, you can craft or buy just about anything and everything you use in the game including weapons and armor, and there are PVP areas in the world.

    Playing: None
Have Played: City of Heroes, Guild Wars, World of Warcraft, Fallen Earth, Diablo 3, DC Universe Online, Marvel Heroes, Guild Wars 2, Star Wars The Old Republic

Darkfall has what you want, open seamless world, swords and sorcery, FFA PvP with full loot, FPS style combat system, non linear gameplay (sandbox not theme park), player owned ships with sea warfare, best gear is crafted, no classes or professions one player can learn any combo of skills, no levels you improve a skill by doing it, player housing, player vendors and more.

Here's a vid of a siege I was on recently click,
