As a gamer, I find it to be repetitive, restrictive, and underdeveloped.
As a person who has moderate interest in Star Trek, I find it soulless, uncharacteristic, and disappointing.
As a customer, I find Cryptic to be deceptive, ungrateful, and demanding.
Your turn!
I made this post so those of us who are not enjoying STO as much as others, a place to rant instead of posting to this thread.
I make critical suggestions and constructive criticisms on the Star Trek Online forums. Simply look up Lostar there.
Here, I rant, try and empty my rage and vent out my frustrations with you all who share these feelings. Who knows that can happen!!

Bleeeeeeuuuuuuurgh.
Sorry that was aimed more at Cryptic and their subscription / pricing scams. Exploiting MF'S!
At least DDO is a F2P with an online store which is more honest. STO a P2P with a rip off store (along with CO) JESUS CHRIST!
Entrenched in the hate mob and glad to be there.
Flaming and trolling is not acceptable at MMORPG.com, so please keep the thread on topic and away from personal attacks/slander.
Fortune favours the bold.
Sad fact is my husband bought my the DDE so I can play my favorite race. So, I'm stuck...I need to pretend to enjoy it for at least another 6 months.
As for the C-Store...
I've only seen that in 2 types of games:
F2P (don't need examples right?)
And fully established games that have been around for awhile and the content is *mostly* for flavor (Anarchy Online)
Furcadia has higher ratings on this site than Star Trek Online
hate is such a strong word...
MMO wish list:
-Changeable worlds
-Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads
Mildly loathe?
Mildly loathe?
Better,
If you could sum this game up in 1 word what would it be?
for me:
uninspired.

Tragic
It's PotBS in space. With even less to do.
Really though it's just not Star Trek. The focus of Star Trek wasn't combat. It was exploration, science, and political action. This game to a fraction of what the IP is and made it the overwelming point to the game. The only thing the game offers is mindless pew pew action that already exists elsewhere.

shallow
And the pew pew action is horribly designed as well. There are no tactics involved. You can almost send your away team to do all the work. I'll throw in a Photon Grenade here and there, not much else needs doing...maybe things will change when I makde Captain?
small
Played WOW (5 years), AOC, AO, EQ2,AC2, Horizons, Saga of Ryzom, SWG, CO, STO(Beta),ROM, Allods, and many other F2P titles. Asl been in beta for many of the main titles and played countless SP games. I have been gaming for 15+ years!
I don't hate it.. I haven't even bought it.. but from reading ALL the FAQ's, details and watching all the vids, this game looks like it should of been marketed at a F2P or better yet.. It should of been done for the PS3 or Xbox.. not a P2P MMO..
They probably should have taken the game in the direction that you're a free colony. Maybe one of the smaller lesser known races in the ST universe. Just coming into space travel. Have the two warring factions fighting for your help. Your one race could turn the tide and blah blah blah. Enter Science....Politics...Exploration....depth.
Well, I think even the fans start to hate Cryptic now, now they have found out that, next to the Pre-Order item chaos... that half those items aren't even in the game yet.
So it won't be long till even most of the fans start seeing the truth about Cryptic.
From in game at the moment, anyone who is playing, wants to be playing. It's only on the forums that theres any real divide. I mean yesterday I saw someone flip because he couldn't get a quantom torpedo launcher from a fleet action because he couldn't get any loot. Went a little something like this..
"I hate this, this is a load of ****! They've ****ed me over and its total ****! Im leaving!"
But the response was generally...
"Take it easy, Cya, Bye bye, shut the door on the way out." That kinda thing.
Basically I think in game you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who cares about the issues the forum goings like us know about.
I was under no illusion of what this game was going to be so I'm not really disapointed at all. However, they need to sort out the micro transaction stuff, but me, I don't touch that crap. Why give money for something that'll do nothing except alter your appearance?? Only the fools fall for it. So do the one's who buy a lifetime sub for a game, any game, except maybe a game you've spent three years in and plan to play to the very end.
Game needs work. Come back in a year and see a finished product, touch wood lol.
Longing for Skyrim, The Old Republic and Mass Effect 3
I`m sorry, but for the life of me I can`t understand what people are gonna do when they hit cap, other than role an alt., or pvp.
Sure when the raidsodes come i`m sure that will add about 2 hours of extra gameplay.
But even with alts you get 2, unless your a lifer/12 month sub then you can do it 2 more times.
Cryptic are not big enough to make enough content in the time it will take for most players to get bored. Just look at CO.

Felt like I was doing the same thing over and over again. Run around a Space Dock, equip new stuff, fly out and kill more stuff in space, beam down, kill stuff on the ground. Can't say I hated the game, just glad I played in a free beta long enough to know it wasn't the game for me.
As a Star trek fan I can`t say I hate the game, and it is a fun game, just can`t justify paying a sub for it.
Now if the game was a SP game with DLC for the added stuff then I would buy it in an instant, and would probably even be a fanboi myself.
The amount of content the game has at this point only warrants box price, no more.

Only in this case, no matter how you try to twist it or put it, Cryptic is advertising bonus items with Special ediition boxes (wich are more expensive. So you actually pay for these bonus items), wich aren't even in the game yet.
That's called false advertisement and fraud! Plain and simple!
But hey... the F rating by the BBB for Cryptic doesn't come falling out of the sky:
Company Rating F
Our opinion of what this rating means:
We strongly question the company’s reliability for reasons such as that they have failed to respond to complaints, their advertising is grossly misleading, they are not in compliance with the law’s licensing or registration requirements, their complaints contain especially serious allegations, or the company’s industry is known for its fraudulent business practices.

ZZZZzzzzZZZZzzz

Well I guess I'm the only fan reading this thread.
I do feel the game is simple but I find it extremely relaxing. Its got a nice feel to it for me. Hard core trekies will never like the game any more then Hard core LOTR fans like LOTRO. But I grew up with Star Trek and have watched all of the series and spin offs and movies. But at the same time I've played nearly every MMO out there and I know that sounds like a lot to boast but its the unfortunate truth. I also have previous experience with Cryptic with CO and COH when it was still theirs. So I went into this game well informed and with the right expectations not to be disappointed.
I do however find the game more fun when grouping I am part of a large fleet (and yes I'm a life time subscriber) We are Borg. And whenever we group for things the missions scale and become more difficult then you actually may find yourselves using a little more of your strategy. But I am just gonna stop here it is not my goal to try and make you like the game but simply put I do enjoy the game and so far there are plenty who do.
This does not mean that those of us who like it would not like to see some changes or additions and hopefully we get those. But I myself am happy with the story lines and the current style of it. I'm also someone who is big on music in games that sets the feeling for me and to me its good.
I will be playing this game until SWTOR comes out with what I paid for life sub I'll probably just be getting my moneys worth out of it that is if release estimates on SWTOR are correct and it doesn't get pushed back at all.
Anyhow I hope you all find a game that makes you happy for me its STO.
You again speak about something you have no clue of :-/
Get your facts right first, please.
There are no missing items in the game.
1) As far as I know, Cryptic is not selling anything, thus it is not advertising.
2) All adverised items are ingame.
3) The issue is related to Red Matter Core Capacitors mostly and that is due messed up bonus items of various retailer offers.
4) Some people are getting bonuses they should not.
5) Uniforms are bugged.
Yes, it is a mess but miles away from what you try to imply.
But I assume trolls do not care about facts...
BBB works like this "Give in to our demands or we'll give you an F" they are a company that makes money off of bullying other conmpanys around not to many people give them a lot of credit these days they use sleezy tactics.
Instead I believe my own personal experience matters the most to me. So I try it I like it I buy it I play it. If I don't like it I leave. Simple concept one I'll continue to use for many many more upcoming MMO's.
And yet the BBB rating is pretty much always spot on. On few exceptions here and there.
In case of Cryptic, the BBB rating is spot on.
