Yes, the Darkfall world has absolutely NO SOUNDS. The game is total silence apart from the action sounds (players/mobs).

    - you stand near waterfalls:   NO sound

    - it rains: NO sound

    - in the cities: NO sound

    - in the wilderness: NO sound

    - daytime: NO sound of birds, wind, nothing

    - nighttime: NO sound of crickets or any other night sounds, nothing.

    - coast/shorelines: NO sound

    - etc..... : NO SOUND

The world is completely silent, the game has been out for 1 year and the dev team is spending their time on implementing such a useless feature as a couple hours new player immunity.
That's sad because the world itself is very nicely crafted, its just sad the they throw the immersion out of the window with the absence of sounds.

Geez, and yes I am a new player, started to play last week and really don't give a F about this, especially when the most basic sounds are still missing ingame.

Yeah it hurts immersion a bit but it is hardly game breaking. I would laugh it off if somebody quit because of that reason.

If a game doesn't have sound...yea that is game breaking. Why play a game when it doesn't even have sound. That just means the game is not done. Laugh all you want but imo that is a deal breaker right there.

Its not game breaking (I know it is for some people) but certainly much more worthwhile than that useless feature they are spending their time on... especially after 1 year of the game being live.

The world doesn't even have its ->basic<- features but they are spending their time on a couple hours newbie immunity? Seriously, who needs this? I was a newbie myself last week (and still am).

    Oh wow....no sounds?

    *sigh*

While I'm really glad I read this before I got my income tax refund back and bought the game. I'm kind of heartbroken. :(  Sounds in the environment are a HUGE thing to me...just as important as the gameplay itself, for me, because my whole reason for playing MMORPGs to begin with...is for the immersion factor of "being in another world."

This really made me sad. :(

Yes that's the whole problem. Immersion is also a big factor for me.

The game has player and mob sounds (actions, skills, footsteps). It also has some background "atmosphere" music. But the world itself has absolutely NO sounds and given the high immersion feeling this huge and nicely crafted seamless world with shadows, etc... is providing the total lack of sounds is really standing out like a sore thumb.

Wow immersion is big for me, but in all the months I have been playing the game I never noticed the lack of ambient sounds...  Crazy.

I guess the slight music/wind like sounds along with mining or running sounds always made me feel pretty immersed.  It kind of always made me feel a little on edge and scared in a way.  Always looking over my shoulder.  I think the immersion in this game is better than almost any MMORPG I have ever played though and I have spent probably 50+ hours just exploring in this game.

More ambient sounds would rock along with a more robust weather system.  I always love when I am at my snowy village to the North and it starts snowing.

Because perception isn't always truth perhaps?

Perception is, you will get ganked, spanked, and they'll take everything, down to your toe nails the second you step out of the city...

Tell people they get a few hours to not worry about that, and a few more may try. I think its a good idea, but I don't think its going to work to grab a whole lot more people. In my opinion, this is a step to a free trial which could potentially bring in a few more people..

I agree with this statement, I see this as there way of bringing in the trials. A free trial would be a char with similar restricions. If this thing only last for your first 3 hours of DFO gameplay then never again after that I'm fine with it, also if it's a precursor for free trials then I think it's a great way to do it.

Don't get me wrong, I actually like Darkfall and will recommend it to friends BUT I will warn them about the full loot aspect and that I won't play it because of that.
Hoping someone makes a Darkfall type game with everything EXCEPT the full loot feature.
Do you want to say you have bought Darkfall without knowledge that it is a FFA full loot pvp game ?

No. I want to say, that I bought the game knowing this, but having never experienced it before I figured I would give it a shot. Glad I did, so that now I know I don't like Full loot PVP. FFA I don't mind. It is the loss of time invested in gathering items, quest items, etc. that pissed me off.

Also, yes, the sound IS an issue but one they hopefully rectify soon. The visuals are nice but the sound would have made the game really stand out. Oh, they can also do away with the horrible ambient music they currently have. Yeck.

Actually have to disagree with the, great sportsmanship part. Yes you can and will meet some extraordinary people in the game. Gems in the rough if you will, and conversely you will be the subject of random gankage, from racial friend, and racial enemy alike. No one gives a squat if you are new. You can be war deced in a npc town while your crafting, like I saw yesterday. Guy with alot of ore making bars gets war decced by a vet and ganked right in the npc town I was in...for his ore.

Thats probably because you know if you dont pay attention to the sounds around you, that pitter patter of feet coming closer to you could be gankage headed your way.

Um...where did you get your gear? If not for one really generous vet me and my buddy in game would frankly be struggling. In a week you had more armor then you knew what to do with?

And gear loss for a new player is indeed a huge setback. Because those newbie quests are not repeatable. That means you will probably be running around with cloth sleeves and chest from gobbo scouts as a result, and no way in hell a new player is going to be soloing gobbo shammys either.

For me, the immersion factor in this game far exceeds that of any other mmo I have ever played. The sound needs improvement but it is the way it is for a reason. You need to listen to the world around you in order to know what's actually out there. You can usually hear approaching enemies long before you see them, especially if they are mounted. I'm constantly anxious when I'm out wandering in Agon, the sounds in Darkfall highly contribute to this feeling.

But I do think additions need to be made no question about it. If I'm standing on the beach of some ocean, I want to hear the waves hitting the shore. I want to hear the leaves of a tree rustle as a gust of wind passes through. These types of sound effects (which I'm sure we'll be seeing soon) only further increase the immersion factor.

This is by no means a Trammel patch. Any vets that are whining about this are, well not true vets, since newborn newbs are really rather boring to kill, and arn't worth the dura hit to your gear in the first place =p

I can see the starter town wanna-bes gripe though, they will have to move their base of operations out into *shudder* the real world, lol

This is a bit off topic, but anyway.

I have played DF for a year now, and i have never noticed the "lack" of sounds! Because i have been to immersed into the gameworld. I mean, if that is not a paradox...i dont know. But i can promise you are very well aware of any sound you hear ingame. I often have to stop moving because either im making to much sound...or i thought i heard something out of the normal........every second of playtime for the last year.

So i have no idea what you are talking about here. I have played most other MMOs and never have sound been so important as in DF.

You are really in another world when you play Darkfall!

Don't tell me that when you are standing next to a waterfall you don't realize that something is missing?

When its raining you don't "hear" the complete silence?

    Etc...

When you are traveling around the world you only hear your footsteps, nothing else. During the night you should be hearing crickets and other night sounds, during the day there should be birds, etc...

But I do agree immersion is good in DF, it just would be so much better if the world was alive with some sounds.

edit: and BTW, world sounds would also enhance game play, i.ex: near a waterfall you wouldn't hear other players coming, etc...

I was just talking about my own personal experience. No lack of immersion here : )

EDIT: Or so to say, it is not a reason why you should not try DF : )

I agree with both of you. I never really paid that much attention to the absence of static environmental sounds. Now that I know they are not present, I feel that they would greatly enhance the immersion... but I never missed them in the first place =p
