I have no idea where this came from, but one of my friends was talking about how fun pokemon was "back in the days" when everyone used to play it with gameboy, etc. Now its pretty much...dead. But I was wondering, Why wasn't there ever a pokemon MMORPG? It seems like the perfect game for an MMO, capture pokemon, challenge any trainer online to duels, etc... seems like it would have been awesome to me.
Heh, who knows, in a desprate attempt for revival, a Pokemon MMO might be considered in the future ... I think that although pokemon is old now and all I can remember is like...the first 250 pokemon, it would be a lot of fun to play anyway lol.
Then again, MMOs nowadays seem to be more for the "older" crowd like people who are around 30 years old, not teenagers and younger kids. And this game would be flooded with "immature" children who cry to their mommies when they lose fights etc... eh, just a thought.
But what do you think? Would this game have been fun when it was out before? Would it be fun in the future or could it ever possibly be developed? And why wasnt it created when pokemon was in its "prime"?

I WILL KILL YOU!
Geez, sometimes I just wish I don't play mmogs...
Uglyyyy!
LMAO! PWNED!
but anyways, ya pokeMAN (thats what i call it) was cool back in the day. I don't think it would be that good as an MMORPG. someone is bound to attempt it in the future maybe, or something close to it.
but just in my opinion it wouldn't work out.
I'm not afraid to admit it: I love the pokemon gameboy games. I don't buy both of each set when they come out, most of the time I don't buy either and just play my older verion. I'm still playing fire red. I'm long gone from playing the card game. Anyway, the idea of a pokemon mmo in the style of the gameboy games intrigues me, since the teams would be very diverse, and there are many strategies. There aren't many set uberawesome pokemon, the games are very open ended as far as how you advance your team.

If it's reaching out the young generation to play an MMO is a problem, it really isn't. Take Toontown online, that game was very much geared to young children, and there are plenty of them in that game. As well as adults who find the game very fascinating and intriguing. So I don't think getting the subscriber numbers is a problem.
If someone created the game, it would probably generate a good amount of profit. Just my opinion though.
As to the game being created, meh, could care less.
Was a fan a few years ago
But they really need to change the childish factor then..
scientology
Pokemon was good back in the day. The shows first and second season was good. The rest sucked becuase they talk about love, and all that kind of stupid mess. The games are getting repettive too.
And while all of that is happening I'm wondering WHERE IS MONSTER RANCHER!!!!!!!!!!!
The show and the games was da bomb!!!

its what pokemon needs, a full 3d world where lots of people are working towards the world championship. Catch pokemon, train pokemon. Do quests to get rare pokemon and pokemon powers. Its could be a great game.
I think the question should be broadened some to - why no monster ranger MMORPGs. That would of course include pokemon, which at its heart is the capturing, training, breeding, and fighting with and against, of monsters. A game like Capcom's monster hunter combined with a monster rancher game, and you'd have a great MMORPG.
Another even more suprising thing, is why existing MMORPGs have not tied in some form of monster ranching into already existing games. Star Wars Galaxies has a very simplistic system, but the users are forced to deal with the whole Star Wars universe (which to some doesn't offset the fun).
Like picture Everquest 2 or World of Warcraft with the ability to capture animals, train them, sell them for various uses (mounts, pack animals, fighting pets, etc). Fight them against other ranchers, etc.
Anyways, so while I'd probably not play a Pokemon MMO because of its kiddy feel, any other type of monster-rancher MMO would likely be a huge success. I could see NCsoft doing it, because the Korean/eastern feel of their games I think would couple well.
Oh please no !!!
I will burn my computer.
*** Takes a hard stiff drink ***
It would be a huge success. However the main obsticle is that the target audicence of Pokemon is under 16. This I think would cause a lot of problems. Not just for subsciptions, but also almost a need to have an adult and a childs server. The child server would need to be moderated to keep all of the parents happy.
Each expansion would bring in a different league. There would be new types of Pokemon trainers. There would need to be Pokemon doctors, nurses, and reseachers.
Well Blizzard's target audience is lower then Pokemon's, so I think we can rule that out.
The main hurdle would be that Pokemon has never even been on the PC. Its been primarily handheld and more recently console. If anything, they'd follow in FFXI's footsteps and do online play through a console.
Sounds like you already started designing the game through :-P
Anyways, despite the fact that I don't like "ANYmon" (Only exception is Weird Al Yankovichs song "Polkamon", trailer to "Pokemon the film") - I think a Pokemon MMO would be quite successful, especially in the asian region.
Wouldn't play though, coz I don't like 'em
Give me a break! That game targeted my dad since the first WarCraft: Humans & Orcs.

Mocking replies aside, Pok
If they can make a Hello Kitty MMORPG, they can make Pokemon Online! Imagine playing Pokemon Online on your Nintendo DS through WiFi. That would kick serious @$$!!!
It's Nintendo's fault. The Nintendo DS can do so much stuff, but they fail to deliver the good games we all want. And now with the PSP coming out pretty soon, it's gonna kick the Nintendo DS's @$$ so badly before it even had a chance at anything.
The DS is the only way they can release a Pokemon MMORPG. The Gamecube has the worst Online feature ever made. So forget that. They can't make a Pokemon MMORPG on PC cause like you said, PC MMORPGs are aimed at an older audience. Not all the kiddies own a PC in North America and Japan.
So that leaves us with the Nintendo DS. With nothing planned for an online Pokemon game, it will never happen. But if they did, it would sell like hotcakes... if they can release it before everyone ends up buying a PSP.
There's a lot of fan MMORPGs out there, someone should take Pokemon graphics are make a MMORPG and use the same "collect monsters" system as the Pokemon games. It would be amazing... I'd play it.

Stealth - Ambush - Hemorrhage - Sinister Strike x2 - Cold Blood - Eviscerate - Vanish - Preparation - Cold Blood - Ambush - ... you're dead! :P

Lololol, the DS will rule PSP by miles.... I can sure see the 14-20 year old guys buying the PSP "cuz it has better games", but no1 else will buy the PSP. Any1 that knows anything about gaming knows the DS is so much better.... Did the NGAGE make any success? The PSP will do lil more...
Its impossible for a newcomer to bring down or even come close to the supreme handheld ruler.... just can't be done. The only thing Sony is doing is putting PS2 games into the PSP, ppl will soon get sick.
Sry, what u said just wont happen.
Oh and the pokemon think, I had already thought about it and Im sure it would make a huge sucsses(how the hell do u tipe this????) if it had been done earlier. Nowadays I dont think it would be that big, it would be more or less like SWG, the fans would play it the rest would try it(sure that would bring profit). If it had been done earlier I think it could be compared to huge sucssesses like EQ and such.

My initial reply to this was..ugh please god no. Being an old MTG player and never having an ounce of respect for any pokemon player. ( and dont give me that younger audience appeal bs, I picked up MTG quite young.)
Then I had a thought, Pokemon is popular with the kids....Make it! less of em acting like idiots in the games I play.
as to the handheld argument, I have owned nintendo handhelds for years. they are the king of handhelds currently. However if they do not come out with some serious games for their DS and quick, then they are going to lose that crown. Say what you want about playstation but fact is they have the games. Right now I have full plans on buying a psp though I am waiting till FFVII Advent children comes out first.
It seems like nintendo just keeps on screwing themselves over by not making multiple games. Its happening with gamecube now, it happened to 64! They have so fewer games than the other platforms. I have 64 and gamecube, (I didn't buy em, my sister bought gamecube for the family, parents bought 64 when it was the cool thing) it just seems that each new device they come out with, they have a really rough time making many games with it! Thats why i stopped playing video games and switched to my PC, because of the variety of games. I still say PC > everything! ha
Most people I've met in WoW, yes, on a PvP server, were above 17.
I've only met one 13 year old, and a 15 year old. And me, a 16 year old.
So you're wrong.

I've only met a few people on WoW that were young. Yet on certain servers, I found this huge group of immature people! This one guy just kept following me around, can i be your friend? can i be your friend? ...if only it was a PvP server! lol
