First sentence as a little out there, but the rest is spot on.
If your going to be a douche in IRC, then expect to get douchebaggary back. Dev or not, people have bad days.
Need to mention that people are defending a customer who was acting like a child when the dev said one little thing that was remotely insulting and people blow up about it like it's the end of the world.
Obviously you guys have never worked in any kind of job that involved Customer Service. If you had, you would have both lasted about a half day.
This is just bad business period. Bad business leads to no business. I don't want to invest time developping a character in a game that's going die prematurely. I can't say that will indeed happen, but many people will probably not want to take the chance. I know I won't.

i sincerely doubt it was a customer (probably a beta user who didnt buy the game, at least he was acting smart when he didnt buy it, but spamming wasnt that smart) :P
not really a big issue for gamer since the game rep cursing will just make the company loose customer
very counter productive when you think the same company hire advertising firm to make sure this game live and
their game rep make sure they got attitude issue ,if your wife said no last night go see a hooker lol.
those guys job isnt to make a cursing contest its to resolve issue !if this game was free ok i could say ok player didnt pay so
it happens maybe!but hell those are right to be unhappy they payed TOP dollars to enjoy an mmo !if mortal dont want customer issue
its easy just close the game and thats it problem solved .but until then those rep job IS TO MAKE SURE THE GAME WORKS!
Is it only me who doesn't see much wrong with that? It's a bit childish, but much better then giving the person a ban for "abusing the system". I guess the GM should have posted the whole situation on AoC forums with a warning that if anyone else tries it, they will get some GM spanking.
I would much rather have GMs who can respond to a joke or a weird situation then those who swear at customers like in this case.
The "girl" (guy in real life) did it as a joke. It was the GM who went along with it. If you want to talk about unprofessional, that counts too. Morally, I'm on the SV guy's side. Virgin Idiot had what was coming to him. But, from a professional standpoint, you just can't do that (unless that person attacks you personally).
Do you have a screen shot of that? I joined about a minute before sebastian went off on the person, I did not see anything before that "pathetic" sentence.
No I don't, I closed IRC before I saw this thread. Only trolls sit in irc patiently waiting to take things out of context so they can post edited screens of it later.

Calling your customer pathetic is pretty close to swearing, and surely a no-no. Imagine someone in the store saying that?
Even if not a swearword per se, it's not something a Dev should say, and is not really a point.
I can't believe you guys would actually think this is really. This is VERY fake. If you have ever been around IRC & Sebastian you would know this is obviously fake.
Just checked my logs. The guy deserved it and I love this company for expressing their opinion like this.

In fairness he does play though. Through all of the negative and everything else he trudges through and plays with the rest of us. So in that respect I think he just tries to bring up stuff so it will get fixed because he seems to want to play and enjoy the game. Other folks who are negative cant say the same for. He may be doing it in the wrong place but he is doing what a beta needs ands thats pointing out whats fudged up.
I agree. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. But there's the possibility that he's only playing to stock up more anti-MO ammunition. After all, what better way to dismantle the claims of, "Play the game first!" than by actually playing it?
We'll see if he's really interested in seeing the game succeed or if he enjoys being negative.

Not sure if this "VirginCherry", is a paying tester or not. But nothing IS more pathetic than some tool screaming (caps scream) GIMMIE GIMMIE GIMMIE, and if not getting the answer he demands has a fit.
It was unprofessional to voice his thoughts in the manner of which he/she did. No doubt. But kmon folks how many times have we all wanted to whack the spamming caps lock mole that doesn't get his way. /raise hand. The dev slipped. Not saying it's right, but I can't help but take his side of it. I am sure the dev probably feels a little remorse true, but as far as I am concerned.. imo.
1. A name like VirginCherry from the get go doesn't command respect.
2. I am guessing that someone with a name like that doesnt give a rats butt about the community or anyone else for that matter.
3. I am guessing (more like judging) that someone with a name like that would more than likely go out of their way to cheat/hack/exploit/cham/glitch the game if givin the opportunity. Would grief/camp/PK and smack talk about doing so, if givin the opportunity. And would most likely do whatever they could to piss folks off in chat if not satisfied with whatever.. name it.

Just because he might be a potential comsumer doesn't give the person the liberty to be an ass. The dev should have just pulled the plug on em without saying a word.
