Samurai Build Questions: Already read Stratics

nate1980nate1980 Member UncommonPosts: 2,074

My current build is:

Bushido

Swords

Tactics

Focus

Resist Spells

Parrying

I don't know what to take as my 7th skill. On Stratics, the most popular builds include Necro w/ or w/o Spirit, or Chivalry. I don't want Chivalry, because paying gold to use my spells, which I assume I'd use them a lot, especially when leveling it up, doesn't sound good to me. Plus the beneficial spells don't last any longer than 15sec, which IMO is crap.

Why doesn't anyone have Focus in their template? I figured that'd be required for any Warrior builds. Any suggestions? I'm browsing the skills to see if there's any that'll give me an alternative healing option, since Confidence (a Bushido ability) heals about 1/3 of my life or some ranged dps for when mobs are too hard to fight toe to toe. For example, my brand new newb mage could kill Ettins by himself easily by kiting, but my Samurai with most skills around or above 60% had to fight some, go heal, fight some, go heal etc. So I've been contemplating Spirit (for heals), which I know nothing about, Throwing for ranged dps, or maybe anatomy or to boost MDPS. What about Mysticism. Guides or tips for Samurai builds that don't include Necro or Chivalry don't exist really on Stratics, and I have 0 experience in UO, so some guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks

    No healing?

    Brave Template

Maybe drop resist and add Anatomy - healing?

If you got a big manapool add chivalry it has a healing spell and can be a good combo in PvE with Bushido.

Added: You can live without focus if you got mana recovery of 5 or so and stamina you can get with potions

I'm trying to steer clear of builds that are only good once you get this item or if you chug potions, because neither is friendly to a player who is brand new, doesn't craft, and doesn't have the cash to buy overpriced things. I chose Chivalry last night after further research. I read that Resisting Spells is a must have for combat builds. Since Chivalry has a healing and curing spell, that works for me, instead of taking anatomy and healing, which would tie up 2 skill spots. Plus Bushido's Confidence skill regenerates 1/3 of your health over a period of a few seconds. SO between that and Chivalry's healing spell, I should be fine.

I'd go with healing if I were you. It actually doesn't cost anything and is really a fairly easy skill to raise. For free healing materials just use a sword on a live sheep and you will get wool. Take the wool to a tailor and use the loom and it will become cloth. Buy scissors for 6gp from tailor and cut the wool. Now you have bandages that cost a total of 6gp to get.

    Swords 120.0

    Bushido 100.0

    Tactics 120.0

Chiv 80.0 (healing, damage buffs, sacred journey aka recall, doesnt need to be maxxed out in skill, also you can tithe 100,000 gold and you will be set for a SUPER LONG while trust me besides money is not hard to get in this game anymore) You really have no idea how good the spells are.

    Parry 120.0

Resist spells (you dont need this skill anymore unless you're looking to pvp even then an ALL 70's resist suit is more than enough)

Focus 80.0 (can be skipped, its just basically your mana/stamina regen which can be replaced by armor stats for regen and a 2h sword with stamina/mana/hp leech, besides its overrated)

Anatomy 100.0 (55% damage bonus which i recommend training) 120.0 (65% damage bonus)

Healing 80.0(being a samurai you get a HUGE bonus with parry skill when using 2h weapons, so i suggest you carry a lot of HP/stamina  pots as you dont need to disarm your 2h to drink but using a 1h and a shield you'll have to disarm one to drink) But having a backup heal is always good.

Your left with 80.0 points to train whatever you want (if you dont use it on focus or healing skill), I would recommend you saving lots of money to buy your +25 stat scroll. Oh yeah BTW every year you subscribe to UO you get a +5 added to your max skill for example you will have a total of 705.0 skill cap for your first year and 710.0 for your second and so on.

If you arent going to be using any healing type of skills, I suggest you use this tactic which I think you already are. When you engage a monster run in let your guy swing, run out a few spaces to cast a spell and let your auto attack timer repop and run back in and use some heal potions if you need to. Just repeat the process. And if you're having trouble with ranged monsters I highly recommend you getting a mount. You will notice a HUGE difference if you can find an ALL 70's resist suit. If you're having trouble, ask around town people basically have backup suits in the bank or in their house that they will be more than glad to let you keep. A lot of people love helping out new players. I've had a guy spend 6 million gold on crafting me a new suit of armor just because I was a new player.
