I’m looking for some help looking for a game.
(Also, don't suggest Vanguard. I tried it and while it's a decent game the population base is low)
I have a couple things I’m looking for:
Graphics: I want the game to have decent graphics. That being said I also like the realistic effect such as Everquest and Everquest II have. I like dark atmospheres with rain, Icy atmospheres, Forests, and all sorts of areas to explore. I don’t want the same look all around me. In WoW I found the visuals to be repetitive in a way, and I hated the cartoony look.
Depth: I am an old Everquest player and I’m looking for a game with some depth. I’m looking for great crafting/harvesting, some dangerous mobs, compelling skill based PvP, and difficult raiding. I want the world to be full of lore.
Economy: This is probably the most important point to me. I like games where the economy plays a major role. I want money to play a large role in the game. I want a game that money can buy you everything you need, and it feels like you never have enough.
Player Housing: It’s a must.
Immersion: I want to be hooked. I’m tired of trying out MMORPGs just to get bored of them. I’m in College, I have MW2 and I’m usually chilling with friends at night, but during the day I want to be craving the game.
If anybody has any suggestions I would be grateful

Anarchy Online
Ehhh, I tried Anarchy at some point and I found the graphics to be subpar.
I couldn't ever really get into it, but maybe I could give it another go.

As an EQ and EQ2 vet, I can't give you a solution aside from EQ3/EQNext. If you do find something between now and EQ3, please let me know.
It's funny... you seem to be asking for such simple things.
*Decent graphics, weather
*Lore and a world with breadth and depth
*Challenge, non-trivial travel, fear of dying
*Housing
All these things the devs have to put in the game.
Immersion and economy are something that players create through desire and necessity.
EQ2 & Vanguard came closest to what you're looking for. I guess we're both still waiting for what's 'Next'
The graphics of Anarchy Online are being completely revamped with the AoC graphics engine... the Lore is completely there and the raiding is extreme... The RP is unmatched (other than OG EQ) and if played as a Froob account, the challenge is unmatched I played EQ and EQ2 as well, and I can say Vanguard is complete Caca... With alot of "caca" being released, alot of us are sticking to the games that offer challenge, rp, maturity, and commoradorie EQ, EQ2, and AO offer that DAoC used to but after the server merges, the game is yuck now ;s its going to be tough however we are trying to organize those who miss the old school MMORPG feel and want to be part of a community that gets together weekly to have a great time, make things happen in-world, and progresses as a unit.

You hit the nail on the head there. SOE said that they do not have plans for another Everquest, so let's hope that another company picks it up.

The only options you have are Darkfall, and way, way out on a limb FFXI. Otherwise it's all in the future. FFXI is pretty hardcore, has some decent graphics, and some pretty weak housing. I only mention it because of the hardcore. Anarchy Online is good too if you keep an eye on the engine updates. I would love to find what you are looking for too, and good luck.
It's getting a graphical update soon, so maybe check it out then.
I just know you'll find *something* negative about it; but Wurm Online has Depth, a working Economy, awesome Player Housing and it doesn't get more immersive. Only problems is the models and animations, world graphics look great imo. As for raiding, only on the PvP server where you attack player settlements to rob them. It's extremely hardcore with full loot drops and having to survive the wilderness.

Now Playing: Skyrim, Wurm Online, Tropico 4
Waiting On: GW2, TSW, Archeage, The Rapture
Wurm is a very love or hate kind of game, some people just find it overly tedious and pointless while others find it a masterpiece. I've tried getting into it many times but it just never hooked me.
Sadly, there is no game yet that fits everything on your list.
Darkfall is about as good as it gets right now.
Yeah, I'd look into EvE, Darkfall, Mortal, FFXI, EQ1, UO, Face of Mankind, Wurm, etc.
Maybe look for some MUDs. PK MUDs can be insanely hardcore.

FFXI. Pretty much has all of what your looking for right there. Might be hard to catch up to all the people that have been playing forever though.
Im playing Fallen Earth right now. It posseses alot of the things you asked for. I'd say FE is one of the most underrated games out there right now. Only draw back is no housing. But apparently there is plans for it in the future. They only have "camps" right now. Nothing to special about them.
There is a robust crafting system and a player driven economy. The vehicle crafting system is my favorite, I just made myself my first motorcycle :P . Anyways id say to give that a try i havent really tried out the pvp yet so i cant comment. From what i hear its pretty good.

Just saying that if I were him, I wouldn't want to get Darkfall at all, based on those pics.
Those graphics suck and I'm sick of WWII games.

^^^says you played WWII online 11 hours....hypocrite

PEPSI!!!!!
Get out of your box already...
I played it on the trial over a weekend because I was bored as hell and it was actually quite an impressive game.
Didn't stay past those 2 days and it was a joke anyways =P

grin!grind salt in wow !that muslt be aleatherworker in wow lol!
I don't think Darkfall is what I'm looking for. I like PvE, and it seems to be lacking in that area.
I'm looking for a game similar to Everquest II. I'm willing to settle for differences of course. I played WoW and it was too easy, and as weird as this sounds too polished.
If anybody has any suggestions.

Darkfall is the game you are looking for. There are no other hardcore games out there.
I honestly think you would be very surprised at how great Darkfall's PVE is. It's not touted much, because people like to focus on the PVP aspects, but the PVE is freakin' great, and the mob AI will blow you away.
Just STEER CLEAR of Dragon lairs....they have great eyesight and can see you from a LOOONG ways off....if you hear the roar, you'll be dead in a few seconds, almost guaranteed. I've only ever escaped a dragon attack once.....not sure how, since the bitch totally carpet bombed me with fire, but I managed to ride down into a valley and I think she had a hard time getting a proper approach for another strafing run. My horse and I both had just a shred of health left, and I was positively shaking as I healed the both of us up....expecting any second for a rain of fire to finish us off.
Best thing to do is look at a map such as this one before you make any long distance traveling, and plot a course around any Dragon lairs...WAAAAYYY around, since they do tend to travel a bit.
Telling' ya man....you want a game that's a real adventure every time you play, this is the game.
you could give the open beta of mortal online a go for a while, but be aware it is still beta and not release standard yet. But won't cost u anything until then
other than that as already suggested there is eve online ppl play that for yrs, but your house will be your ship there:)
dont try mortal online. it should be released this year, but... i tried it and i think its in pre-alpha state at best.
absolutely horrible.

It's a friggin blast. I think they need to add some more spawns near the newbie areas but the PvE is great fun. The AI is amazing as he said. I saw a goblin scout accidentally hit a goblin shaman and the shaman turned around and started firing on him.
Honestly, I don't know why more people don't try Darkfall, it's a blast!

Darkfall definitely.. it's gone a loong way since release and I'm enjoying its sandbox goodness right now.
As for PvE.. so far it is most impressive - mob ai is second to none although if you're into story based quests or raids (which I'm not) you'll find it lacking. It is more of a "realsitic" thing where players give themselves a reason to go kill some mobs rather than follow some contrived story (no I really can't emphatize with NPC problems). In addition i find the world a bit.. emptyish although it does give it a sense of realism (not every square inch of the world should be covered with "monsters" waiting to be slaughtered like in most other games) so when you go hunting kobolds your first task is to find them... which can be fun in itself. The next patch/expansion is supposed to give a boost to PvE, especially to the dungeons so you might want to wait until then... or you might not.
