Concern of a "possible" new player..

Hey everyone....Im a long time MMOer, have done the Warhammer, WoW, EVE, AoC etc....Currently, Im playing AoC and I have the computer to handle the graphics maxxed out. Its a beautiful game. Just sick. The problem is the lower levels being unpopulated. So im starting to hit a leveling wall.
Now,that being said, Ive always known about Everquest. I just downloaded the trial. Took about a minute,seriously, to download it. But as soon as I was ingame, I couldnt believe the look. Just horrible. The graphics were simplistic and very outdated.
Im wondering if its because what I downloaded was just the base parameters of the game. In other words, since it downloaded so quickly, perhaps what I have is the bare essentials of the game to make it run.
Im not expecting AoC. Of course not. Ive tried looking at frame shots etc. Youtube blah blah blah. Its always hard to get a GOOD idea as what to expect because there are so many variables when considering it.
In YOUR opinion, is this game the same as, lets say WOW? If I purchase the game and download the whole thing, will there be a significant increase in graphics?
Im not expecting greatness. But from what I saw in the trial, thats just unnacceptable....

Just spent alot of time in game after BUMPING UP THE GRAPHICS....I have never seen such crapass graphics in my life. Its a immersive deal breaker. Ten years ago, maybe...But no...Just no......Its a responsive game yes, but if I have to stare at a piece of crap day after day after day? No......
Lifes too short to play craptastic looking MMOs.....And that is just fkng horrible......I have a headache from staring at that environment....

The game is just ugly for this time. But that's not unacceptable since it was released a long time ago and for that time the graphics were pretty good. But the gameplay is even better.
Its just the trial. And I don't understand how you can think its ugly.
did you adjust graphic setting!then know it is a cartoon style that was made in 1998!
this is a game that can probably be played even on your iphone with an emulator!
Do the graphics get better somehow? What are you implying that would make you think that someone cannot dislike the graphics in the trial?
I have no idea why soe doesn't change the default settings to something somewhat decent, because the initial impression the games graphics give are not very impressive.

Are you in the EQ trial or in the EQ 2 trial? you ar posting in the Everquest 2 forums but you talk in your post about Everquest.

I only played EQ I & II trial but not only there's a whole world of difference between both but EQ II has decent graphics, even compared to AoC, not to say WoW.

Yes EQ2 has nice graphics. It doesn't look old at all. Someone in my guild said something about EQ2 coming out with a streaming client of some sort that will start to rely on GPU. I don't know about technical stuff but if true sounds like more people will be able to put the game on max settings. Kind of crazy how after 5 years mainstream computers can't have it on max settings yet. I just keep mine on balanced because I raid and too lazy to keep switching I guess.

The graphic quality of EQ 2 is fine. Not amazing blow your socks off but when you turn everything up it holds up with quite a bit that is released today.
The world can be a little lackluster (so many browns from what I remember) but the lighting is nice.

Ummm... Some Shattered Lands starting zones, Commonlands and Thundering Steppes, are brown. But there are lots of zones with different colors. The void themed zones have purple and the undead themed stuff is grey like dungeons. Kunark has lots of green. MMOs arent really known for the best graphics though. They need to be made so lots of people can play them. I am in the beta for SF and the new zones look very nice. Maybe because its new to me, but I think the best looking zones yet.
EQ2 dosen't have bad graphics but rather hideous texturing and colors. Everything looks like its made of clay and the armor looks putrid. Its been that way since 2004.
oh if you dont move at all put everything at max on graphic card and game game look nice but if your in a raid with that setting
you will be lucky to get 1 fps max
Of the recent fantasy MMOs, I've played: AoC, LoTRO, Vanguarg, AION and EQ2. I've never played, but seen lots of WoW.
AoC doubtlessly has the best graphics. I would rank EQ2 graphics as 2nd best in terms of quality after AoC. In terms of artistic design, I'd definitely rank LoTRO above EQ2 as well (art design is great, but animations quality is terrible)... AION I'd rank about the same, it's just a very different art design, so you either like the flashy cartoony stuff or you like EQ2's more realist approach.
Despite being 5-years-old, EQ2 still has better graphics than most MMOs being released. If you did not see it, you had something wrong with your settings - which is possible, as EQ2 has some of the worst graphics optimization of any game. So while it CAN look amazing, it often doesn't due to being a memory hog, etc.
