WoW has about the lowest system, or resource requirements of any triple A MMO.  I know of people who play WoW on dialup.

Why does it have 11 million subs?

Maybe one of the dying games like EQ or UO?  Many played those old games on dialup.

    Maybe lord of the rings?

I'd say you can play pretty much all MMOs out there, 300-500ms lag isnt exactly gamekiller in mmorpgs

just stay away from FPS unless you are a glutton for frustration.

Well my bro tried playing Aion and due to lag spikes from satellite internets fluctuating ping it didnt really work out lol Im purty sure satellite internet has the worst ping of any wireless internet.. my lowest ping playing wow was 1000ms lols

All games will work with satellite internet. I was paying DDO in my hotel room on a business trip, and I guarantee your connection will be faster than that. I was getting anywhere from 20-60 KPS, which is pretty sad.

Well if you played WOW,I know FFXI utilizes very low bandwidth. As for other games ,i would say ANY F2P game is doable they all have very low poly counts and no question would be using low bandwidth.I know for a fact that FFXi works quite amazing even with very high pings, where as many F2P games, you will see players flashing across the screen.

The biggest set back?FFXi woukld be a whole new beast as compared to WOW.FFXi is a big time thinking game WOW is basically run to npc get your quest, rinse and repeat.I would even say FFXI is not the most user friendly, but if you can ever get past the WOW mentality and find a few friends to enjoy FFXI with,it is the most complete combat system on the planet, and a huge game with tons of stuff to do.Unlike WOW ,questing in FFXI is more of an after thought than the norm.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Both of those games sound cool. and i was looking for more of a thinkers game! Im purty sure thats why i got bored of wow doing the same shiz diff day. ffXI do you think i could possibly run the FF in development right now .. I think im gonna sign up for Beta and see how it goes

I dont see how you could play wow on satellite.  Isnt latency on the order of a full second or two?  What you would want is a game that is slow paced.  Ive heard that FF11 is really slow, but that one is old and might not be friendly for new players.  FF14 is starting beta, hopefully in a few months and may fit the bill.

I used to have satellite internet and umm...I highly doubt 300ms is achievable by any means with it.  At minimum youll have 900 (lowest ping I have ever gotten from anywhere in Pingtest.net) so online gaming is going to be a big no-no for you.

Instead of satellite might I suggest using 3g or any mobile network connections?

And guys...Bandwidth is NOT the problem.  The problem is the horrendous ping which is at minimum 900ms.  But usually in wow, I was at 1000-1200 ping.

You can play any mmorpg.  Just make sure you know that everything you do will take around a full second before it registers.

I ditched it for HSDPA and I had great ping! @_@ so try getting on mobile networks. if not, just live with the 1 second delay on everything you do.

Edit : Atlantica online is turn based. I guess you could give that a try? ive never tried it though

I didn't even think satellite internet was still around! Well if ping's the problem maybe you should try some games with free trials. Plenty of games out there have trial offers now so no harm in trying. Just don't try FPSers cause you'll just increase someones kill count

A tale in the desert... ping spikes won't kill you there :)

when im on the laptop or moving around and have to use the sat. net i play rohan , cabal , DDO , or last chaos

its ezer to stick to the free to plays and the older ones at that for sat. net there for the most part made for lower end units so seem to run the smoothest
