I have playing AION for 3 months, still don't know what is this game all about. PVP or crafting or questing or storyline or higher graphics or simply just grinding forever?
When I was still playing Warhammer, I heard AION would be better and better PVP merchanics. Now, I have to agreed some people said already, AION is over-hyped.
Warhammer PVP Tier 1, 2, 3 are much more fun than AION. In my opinion, if AION wants to continue to grow or struggling to stop losing subscribers then Ncsoft need to make PVP much easier or more convient to find the opponents. Or learning a little bit from Warhammer about capturing battle object.
I remember in Tier 2 to defending a catsle in Warhammer, each side had around 100 players, it was extremely fierce group PVPing, lasting 7 hours. And there are lot of confrontations everyday.
I am sick of doing Spy quest because I am not Korean and I don't live in South Korea need to go to North Korea to spying. This is a game, and only War will make this game fun.

I have a lv50 cleric on the asmo side and end game comes down to a few simple things all of which include grinding.
Grind pvp gear
Grind pve gear - and by grinding this, I mean the fenris or mira sets.
Do dredg - lv46-50 pvp instance that pops twice? a day
Do 1 of 2 pve instances - Adma 3 hr lockout and Dark poeta - 12hr? lockout
Try to farm world bosses?
umm you can gank lowbies? Did I mention the crappy drop rates of gear?
So as you can see, its pretty much a giant grind which can be painful and disappointing.
exactly, thats why i quitted in 1st month Looking foward to FF14 and D3
Kain_Dale
Troll much
Aion endgame is all about endless grind. and thats the reason I quited it also after 3 months
Its all about the ....HIYAH!!!
More PvE and PvP content will be good for Aion and NCsot already showed they are working on it.
But AION never was over-hyped, its hype was based on player experiences, you can't say someone's opinion is "over".
Warhammer was the most over-hyped game in history by its producers and developers.
Warhammer lost 100x more players than AION and sooner, the way Warhammer is shallow just does not work in a MMORPG setting.
I understand that you had fun in Warhammer, but AION will not be similar to it, especially in the aspects you mentioned, Mythic showed Warhammer game design is BAD for long term gameplay. Remember this is not "my opinion" this is what happened with Warhammer.
AION is a success, Age of Conan is recovering but Warhammer online unfortunatelly is dying. There is no reason for any MMORPG to follow any of Warhammer's formulas.
You have fun with Warhammer? Keep playing it till you can and forget about another game turning in to War for you.
...
I play War and Aion and WAR is still crap. It still lacks any kind of decent crafting system which in turn has caused a complete lack of economy. Aion has a thriving economy, pots, food, gear, weapons...all of it are money makers. You can simply farm in Aion and make good money, you cant do any of that in WAR. As for PvP, Warhammer still lacks here because scenarios do not pop basically all day. At night they pickup but are still sporadic at best. Until WAR puts in cross server scenarios it will fail in this regard. RvR can be fun but its also sporadic. Aion isnt a perfect game, not by a long shot but I definitely find more interesting things to do in it vs WAR. I still play WAR to play with friends and siege cities when they happen but everything inbetween is basically crap. Its sad that WAR is basically a dead game on every server until after 5pm
I'll be going back to Aion pretty soon, they have a healthy player base and will have a lot of updates. But, as for Warhammer Online, I really tried to give that game another chance and ended up quitting. You see, if there's no one gonna be on when I wanna PvP, there's really no reason to play the game.
It's an MMO, it's all those things you stated in the first sentence of your OP.
Aion isn't really over-hyped, It was already known what the game was about more than a year ago. The only "over-hyping" of the game is just in people's heads.
WAR PvP tier 1 and 2 are the most fun PvP ever. It's because it's the most basic PvP ever. Barely any cc, not a lot of skills, no AoE, and it's so convenient to find battles, I agree. At higher levels it's a mess though.
NCsoft does need to implement mechanics to make people find each other on the battlefield more often than now, where it's basically either ganking or zerging fortresses or rifting. Hopefully it's only a matter of time before we see something like that.
The Rift is so stupid in this game. While waiting for so long until the Rift pop up in the zone but then you found out it is only for level 20-36 or 20-30 etc. First thing, the Rift is a random respawn on map which is already limited the PVP activity, and then there is limitation on levels makes people to other land even more difficulty.
IMO, the Rift should be a real portal link to the opponent's land, it should not have any level limitation. The more the game planned to prohit high level ganking low levels the more problem it would be. It would be based on the penalty instead of using merchnism to preventing the hi-lo ganking. Besides, there is a quest to kill Rank 9 opponents, if the Rift open for all levels, I think Aion would have more fun.
By now, Aion seems organized everything to Ncsoft, but in the eyes of players, or at least to me, they are force players when to strike, when to speak, when to rest.
You are just another brick in the wall.
aion.mmosite.com/guide/system_rift.shtml use it.
As said, the Rift system is just for looks than real uses. Aion is advertising with PVP features but who is going to wait 2 hours to go in a portal to other land then searching the entire map in opponent's area for opponents? Or travelling a long way with unreasonable expensive expense? First, you need to pay for the travelling, second, you may want to bind soul at nearest camp. Besides, you must stay at the zone to be able to see if there is a rift respawned, and yet you still don't know where is the location. That was extremely stupid.
I don't mind to travel a little bit, but if you dead once, then you may not able to use the Rift anymore because the Rift also limited on usages. Then, you need to wait another 2 hours until next Rift respawned. If someone only have 4 hours to play for a day.
This Rift system just don't work for them. It only preventing PVP.
Abyss? it is even worse because you can't go anywhere if your flying still on CD.
It would be a joke if Ncsoft released a mount in this game. Any zone are heavy density with full of mobs. Apart from air combat are we going to see mounted PVP?
IMO, Aion PVP is a setback, just make people believe the game has PVP. In fact, it is so difficult to PVPing. Most people are still doing the so-called PVPVE. And the PVPVE really means the area is a contested zone similar to Darkshire, Searing Gorge in WOW. But Blizzard never make it so complicated to tell you it was PVPVE. And PVP in Aion even less than WOW. That was really sarcastic to Aion.
It's supposed to be both.
Aion is NOT a pvp game. Aion is NOT a pve game. This is why players who prefer pvp and why players who prefer pve are dissapointed.
As far as larger pvp battles, I've had those in the abyss but I will agree that it doesn't happen all the time unless there is a fort that is contested.

Isn't final fantasy solely a pve game?

PvPvE refers to the fact that the Abyss is contested between 3 races, Asmodians, Elyos and the Balaur. Those 3 races fight for the control of the Abyss fortresses and artifacts. Examples you gave are simply PvE zones which might include some PvP. There are only 2 races fighting for control (that is pretty meaningless), not 3.
Disregarding the fact that the game had been out for more than a year before it launched here, It's misunderstandings like these which feed all the "Aion is over-hyped" and "marketing lies" ideas, which are most of the times just in the player's minds.
Ok, here's how you rift. It takes a while sometimes, maybe even a few days, but once you've crossed over to the other side you can stay there for as long as you want. First off, you look at your level and at the level range of the rift you want to go through on the website, basically the lower the level of the rift the safer the exit will be but you also have to be low level. Second, buy a kisk, or more than one kisk so that once you've crossed over you can resurrect yourself without going all the way back to the obelisk and having to find another rift. Third, make friends or alts, why? To express mail you more kisks once you're on the other side if you run out of kisks. Fourth, go look for the kisk you want to go through from step one. Step four is the longest, could take you up to 3 or 4 days to get that right rift for you but once you're on the other side it's smooth sailing as long as you've done steps two and three. As added bonus you may want to get a devanion armor set so you pwn more once you're in PvP and find yourself a good spot to lay down your kisk because you don't want others to destroy it.

I heard Korean is famous of one type of meal. They throw in various mixed food then mixed again with rice and several sauces. I guess that was same cuisine used to cook Aion.
The rifts are designed to allow PVP but limit it at the same time. although I wish it were more than every two hours, I see the reasoning not to have a constant rift open. IF there was no one would ever get quests done and it allows the pve to exist. If they had open rift then it would be a pvp only game.
