1) about the numbers game ...
I see posts constantly calling out the numbers of pretty much any company that posts positive marketing about their subscriber base.
(as i put in another thread)
WoW makes a post about their sub numbers ... then this ensues.
WoW doesn't counter their subscribers right
Yes they do, they say their subs consists of ....
Yeah but they can't count the subs in china because their subs work differently
yes they can because of .....
No they can't because of .....
Take the free realms annoucement .... there is already an arguement on their about its sub numbers.
this is false advertisement
no its not
yes they should calculate sub numbers this way and give us an accurate number
its like why do you care about some other games numbers, if your game is doing fine and you are having fun why do you care what another company is doing.
also why do people who don't play Y game stay on Y games forum bashing it. are you trying to convert people? do you expect people to thank you for "showing them the light" by bashing Y game? i see this all the time on EVERY forum. former AOC players bashing anyone who post something positive about AOC, former EQ2 players bashing EQ2 players. former SWG players bashing ... well pretty much every game SOE makes.

Personally, I couldn't care less.
For those who do care- they merely are caught up in marketing hype. There's a rubber-banding that exists between subscriptions somehow being synonymous with people playing the game, and world 'activity' as it were. Anyone who's played a range of MMORPGs will be able to identify the disconnect, and should be capable of dismissing the whole subscription concept as an offset.
That is exactly right, and we're not saying NO to save WoW, because it is already a lost cause. We are saying NO to dissuade the next group of greedy suits who decide to emulate Blizzard and Cryptic, etc.
We can prevent some of the future games from spewing this crap, but the sooner we start saying no, the better the results will be.
So - Stand up, pull up your pants, and walk away.

Normally I don't care but I did find the whole 1 million registered forum users clamoring by Cryptic for STO something to talk about. Simply because it was rather apparent how they were trying to mislead people and actually a bit insulting since I suppose they figured people would be too dense to read between the lines.
The only time I care about it is when a company tries to mislead people by marketing data in a misleading fashion.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

Numbers don't tell how good the game is. Even poo attracts a lot of flies.
Bashing - Without it, every game would be the second coming of Jesus and better than sex. There must be balance in things.

Forums are for PVP, its as simple as that. We bash because we care. We hate because its entertaining to do so. We post anything we can think of to wind up our opponent and get them to break down and cry.
Looks like we won again.

Oddly enough, I just imagined an MMORPG based on this forum...
Check out the MUD I'm making!
What really funny is that the numbers we argue about are BS anyway. I doubt there is an honest bean counter in this or any other business.
I wouldn't last long.
I would probably get banned from the game from griefing drbaltazar all day long just to get a kick out of his reactions.

I dont care at all, which is why Im not posting in this thread.

Goddamnit!
If you stand VERY still, and close your eyes, after a minute you can actually FEEL the universe revolving around PvP.
It's called "Social Proof".
A big key in the influence game, in business, and all other aspects.
MMO's are no exception. And if you ever think you'll be able to sway the entire population to dismiss the concept of social proof, well, maybe you'll start with something smaller.
