i was too but i was thinking it was going to take them a bit longer. i hear the lag is better but some tiems it just comes back in spikes then the server goes down. so maybe the fixed part of the issue now they have to restabalize the server. just really have to see what happens ANd USe utorrent o get the client the patcher needs some more work yet

The game is worse AFTER the patch. Not only is the lag still here, the game keeps crashing in populated areas.  Why do you assume they'll fix it?  The game can't handle this many people, no amount of patching will fix that.

It is the server, and the server is having issue with it.  This has to be a huge disappointment to them.  I hope they increase the open beta time limit because of this.  I haven't been able to even log my character in at all.  I don't have my characters when I get to the character selection screen.

worst experiance i had in any game so far. Beta should be test of final product for minor bugs and improvments , this is bearly alpha of game. When I enter town it need like 5 min to show all players in it.You need from 1min to 5 min just to loot a grave. World is empty of content, only idea of game is good.

will check this game in 6 months or 1 year if it is still around.

Is it still laggy?  I don't feel like logging in to find that out.

No patch is a miracle patch. The lag is still very problematic although at times it seems better.

They rebooted with a "new configuration" and it made the lag worse it seems

bugs can cause server stability. and the lag is better at times but i believe theres a server side mem leak. as long as they dont release i dont care as long as they keep fixing it. im sure it will be fine given time.

Trial and error I guess. They are trying to fix it even though I dont really know that they understand whats causing it.

yea this is what happens you dont have any older devs to help you if your new

Interesting tidbit I noticed with the lag.  Much of the interaction seems to occur client side.  Here is an example to explain:

When I hit X to draw my weapon... there is lag... nothing happens on screen (sometimes for 5+minutes).  What is interesting however is that immediately my movement speed becomes that of someone with a weapon drawn...  Hitting X again let's me move at regular speed.  Eventually at a later point the animation occurs.

Here is my point.. if some of this is client side.. like the combat movement speed.. isn't that a wide open hole for someone to exploit?

Am I looking at this wrong?  Is it somehow not clientside and I am misinterpreting what I see?  I;m not a programmer so I don;t know.. but what I described is what I see in game.  My movement speed changes instantly but the other parts wait for the server to catch up.

Yes, other MMOs reboot so that they can do rolling backups on the server data itself or *scheduled* maintenence.

It's not random reboots to make the game world lag free by fixing the leaking memory or something else on the server side. It's almost entertaining how you can come up with a defense for even the most boneheaded moves by SV, all which reek of incompetence. But hey, if you believe it, have at it. I am just here enjoying your logic.

i know that i was just saying i wasnt talking about there leaks and fixing the lag. i was talking maint.

and wouldnt maint prevent the lag from starting?

I don;t know about offline mode... but I;m talking about in game.. connected with the lag.  If my speed is changing instantly by hitting X (in and out of combat) but my attacks and visuals dont occur for 5 minutes... that leads me to believe that my movement speed was determined locally...  Which would be a very.. very bad thing.

depends how they have it server side. i know swgemu has actully put something in to keep people from speedhacking  Mo could be doing the same thing. cause we havent seen any speed hacks in along time cause there was 1 a while back but the devs fixed it

I hope you understand my concern. That kind of stuff killed Darkfall for me.  I honestly used to see people flying through the air like superman, drop down, loot a chest.. and take off again...

I was in ventrilo last night with a hacker that was flying around in the air taking screenshots to make a map...    He uses a basic memory editor to edit his stats and the server registers it and he said he can hit people for 20k damage.  He is not lying as he posted up some screen shots for me to see, and well... it was legit...

The game is going to be easily exploitable at release, I can guarantee that.

No, maintenence keeps the health of the server better and prevents degradation. Things like performing an 'offline defragmentation', a cleanup of stale data, etc... only helps to keep CPU/memory/disk costs in line along a predictable curve.

If the team has no idea what they are doing, which in SV's case is a high likelihood, maintenence isn't going to fix an error where their server is leaking memory or causing severe lag upon load. It's supposed to be designed to handle it to begin with.

Again, it is rather apparent that SV did not, nor do they have the expertise to fix these issues, which is why they have been silent entirely on the matter. We will see how long it takes, but my guess is that it will conincide with a sharp decline of interest in the open beta as a whole anyway.

And this is, because most people don't really know, what meaning a beta has.

It is for TESTING and not promoting the game, like most WoW-players think.

Its normal for a beta, that things get tested, that the server lags and characters get wiped.

And YOU surely shouldn't tell us, that SV don't have the expertise to fix the issue or did you work for/with them already ?

Are you an insider, who can know this ? I don't think so.

If you read the website announcing the open beta to the public and testers, not their investors and stockholders and I quote:

"Keep in mind that this is not a promotional beta as gamers have gotten used to in the last couple of years. We are taking this step to test our systems on a larger scale. Don't expect this to be a final game version or a preview."

    www.mortalonline.com/news/open-beta-new-trailer

Every company ever known talks about what they are doing in pretty terms to their stockholders and investors. The above link goes straight to the website where they announce open beta to the new testers, it tells you what to expect as a potential tester.

I am not going to say that SV is dishonest like some would but more like a bad used car salesman who tells his coworkers what a piece of shit the dodge on the lot is but makes the customer think it can go for 250000 miles and gets great mileage. So if I as a stockholder saw that report/letter and was also a avid gamer who bought the game based on that report because I am a stockholder, I would be pissed.

Agreed.  Thus lies the 'confusion" as SV has seemingly said two different things.  Also.. keep in mind that a Press Release is not a letter sent to Stockholders (thought a company certainly COULD send a copy to them).  It is.. a release sent to the press for publication to whoever is interested.
