Finally got logged in last night, created a character and selected 'random' location for a starting area.  I got put next to a town (forgot the name, starts with an F).  Ran around a bit, noticed not one NPC in town.  Saw what I thought were crafting tables but I couldn't interact with them (pressing use object just shows the text 'use object' and a 5 second timer).  It looked like I was supposed to have a starter axe but there was nothing in my inventory.  When I tried to go into combat my hands never showed up in front of me.  There was nothing outside the town.

 

So the question is, was I just lagging like crazy or the point to just run around aimlessly with nothing but your bare hands.  The fact the town was completely deserted seemed wierd.

    Sounds like you desynced from the server so you couldn't do anything accept run around. Also there has been lag ever since OB started. They are workiing on it, so my recomendation would be to wait until you see a patch that says the lag is fixed. No since logging in only to rage from lag. You will have a much better experience if you play without the lag issues they have been having lately.
