I'am thinking of buying this game, since the start. I have been reading into this, i saw a huge hyped release die down quick. But nevertheless i still couldn't keep my mind off this game, i still feel it has potential. I have dug deep into the real community, (through the spam) and have heard that this game you have to try to really enjoy rather than reading the 'trash talk'. As my finals are nearly over, i am kind of anticipating if i should really buy this game. I may not be a hardcore gamers like most darkfallers,So do you think i could be into big PVP events (like clan sieges) pretty quick. In workdays probably 2 hours max and weekends 3-4 hours per day. As well as holidays where i could do 3-4 hours max per day. So is Darkfall a risky buy??

Its not a risky buy if you love PvP and don't care about losing stuff or getting "zerged" . Its a risky buy if you don't like pvp > everything else, hate zergs, or want small scale fights to be more win

Couldn't disagree more with Critt. Think the game will start to do very well now and into DF2010. Of course you can't go out and solo and compete with people who have been playing for a long time, but you can join a clan and enjoy the game with other players playing how a MMORPG is supposed to be played; cooperatively.
If you are on the fence you can always wait until DF 2010 and see how that goes.
You play how you want. You don't have to grind on mobs at all. I spent the first 3 weeks hunting chaos chests, crafting, and exploring and had the time of my life. You have probably killed more mobs than me after months of playing. I moved into a clan city and helped gather and harvest and went on clan hunts for supplies and pvp'ed.
It is what you make of it. That is how all sandboxes are. It sounds to me like you have a weak sauce imagination and all you care to do is grind on mobs so you can go solo and win every pvp fight you get into. You don't have to jam your playstyle down other peoples throats though. Maybe you could just accept this game isn't for you and move along?
People who love crafting and hitting trees all day don't pick darkfall as their first choice of a new game. People who like PvP, dueling, full loot etc pick darkfall as a new game. This is why I am pointing out that in order to be able to PvP (like most people who play darkfall want to do) you can expect a huge PvE grind before being able to accomplish this.

Fortune favours the bold.
I have played DF for about two or three months and am a member of the Dark Hand of Valor clan on Yssam holding Apautan and Ichtan currently. DF has huge amounts of potential to be a very addicting and, in the future maybe, in depth game.
Right now the game simply does not have a whole lot of "content" in the PvE area. Which wouldn't be to bad except that as a result there isn't many story lines or "epic" other stuff to do outside of dieing to red zergs or EU transfers. So, if you are looking for a world that draws you in and is immersive, like me, you will probably be disappointed. As you can tell the novelty of the experience has begun to wane for me and I'm probably not a good fit for DF, I'm actually currently enjoying Vanguard which is actually a pretty fun game.
Perhapes that is it, DF dosn't feel...fun...more like work.
Now the PvP is cool but after, once again, the novelty wears off it is kind of ...meh. You can jump into the melee and chase someone running in circles at inhuman speeds while your clan mates "accidently" pelt you with arrows and fireballs in the back as they all desperatly try to kill the bad guy. Or you can stand on the sidelines with the rest of the Zerg doing the shooting while the vetreans do the melee and loot. Additionally, you can stand in the bank room throwing everything you got through a door way hoping to get a hit. Now this may not be everyones experience with the game, but it is mine. So, like I said...meh.
What else is there? Oh, ships, cannons and crafting. Well, compared to other games crafting is a simplistic grind and frankly after you get a Battlehorn and 1H mastery you will be rolling in gold enough to buy what dosn't drop from the PvEOMGforever skill grind. But, ships and cannons are cool right? "Wow, so this is a ship! Yep, it gose foward and backward and turns and has cannons and can die or be captured pretty quick. Cool. cool. Wait I'm not as impressed as I thought." Cannons are the same-Wow, cool, meh...
So all and all I find the game to be a pretty nice fantasy combat simulator that is rather shallow-most likely due to being pretty young, its what only a year old off release. If that is what you want then cool this is game for you. If you want something with a bit more depth and certainly more polish then DF will probably disappoint after the novelty wears off. Once again, this is MY personal experience with the game and Im sure yours and others mileage may vary. Or you could have the same opinion after playing it awhile.
Oh, did I mention the UI is a pile of butt ramming frustration that makes me want to grow seven fingers on each hand and stab myself in the eye with a stick? Good Luck...you'll probably need it.
Sty I am living in Apautan as well as a part of your alliance.
I get what you are saying, but I am wondering what game has given you what you seem to be looking for? I want more always... I think it's just human nature, but as far as sandboxes go all of the games have only given so much. SWG was brilliant at launch, but it still only provided so many systems that you could use to entertain yourself.
I think Darkfall does a great job with what it has, and I do want more, but honestly it provides some of the most fun out there on a continual basis in my eyes. Quest grinds with recycled content bore the crap out of me. Instances feel as un massive as it gets. I think that if Aventurine can do what they say and implement dungeons and expand on the dynamic lore system and demigods then it could grow into something great. We will see with DF 2010 and future updates.
So what game does give you what you are looking for? What would you change or what game is superior for what you are looking for? I know EVE is a very successful sandbox, but lacks in many of the fields you mentioned. PvE mainly always seems to suffer in sandboxes due to them being a player run world.
He wants a game like VG.

VG ? WoW ?
I don't see a difference between grinding 2 000 quests and instances to achieve the competitive level or just killing those mobs, because they have something I really need.
"Greetings ! I am Mighty Warlock of Bara Dur, I am Master of the Secret Fire and prince of Second Kingdom ! BTW can you kill 10 bears for me and bring at least 100 rat ears, please ?" WTF is this shit ? That's the only healthy reaction you should get for allowing your multimillion AAA+ MMO to have this kind of game content.
Darkfall should stay away as far as possible from adding more quest and standard MMO pve content. The game needs more clear personal and clan objectives
1. Conquerable resource super nodes and infrastructure outside the clan cities, same like player villages. Obviously they need to be attractive enough to spark the conflict around them.
2. Dynamic pve content of various difficulty build around player owned holdings. Randomly created missions which need to be completed by players in order to keep the holding resource output high:
- defend the holding from goblin / gnoll / ciel fey / raven standard / grey ork raiding party. No need for wandering AI here, a stationary spawn of mobs will be enough, note different mob difficulty so even a new player can contribute to the clan income.
- raid a local spawn of Mercians/trolls who harass our wilderness mine/farm/player village.
It would definitely make Agon feel a bit more dynamic.
What if darkfall have quests like runescape? I think it would be better. In runescape, they never ask you to kill 10 of the same monster. ITs real quests that ask you to explore, search find and return and its great. Each quests have his own story no matter how ridiculous it can be and they are almost all enjoyable. RS is popular simply because of the way quests are done.
So saying that darkfall should not have more quests is just a stupid statement. Darkfall dont need quests to work for the others, it need real quests like runescape where you can feel like a hero.
They want you to kill a vempire, get a spike, some white stuff and you can now kill him. Anyway, you can see my point if you played runescape atleast for free. Personally to me, all the free quests in RS wear fun to do, but after that, its not worth playing anymore to grind unless you dont mind about grinding, but if you do pay for runescape, its not a grind since all quests are differents.
Darkfall world for his part, its so huge that i think they should add new quests that ask you to explore more about the world. To know more about agon with stories for each quests so the more you do quests, the more you know about the lore of AGON.

You will not be refunded if you figure out that darkfall is not for you and you wont play it

I've bought several games that sucked that I couldn't take back. I've also purchased many games that were awesome like Darkfall that were worth every penny.

Im playing darkfall since a little over a week and i love it so far. The freedom is great and i still havent seen anything the game has to over since im still in the newby region which is fairly big btw.
Darkfall lets you do anything you want and the full loot system isnt a big deal at all since you'll at first just wear stuff you either crafted yourself so can get plenty of it or wear stuff mobs drop and mobs drop alot of armour and weapons all the time. Only difference is mob dropped armour has low durability so they dont last long but big deal since you'll have your bank full of armour and weapons dropped by mobs. Basically there's just not much to loose when you get ganked except ofcourse things like reagents you looted from mobs and whatever you gathered from mining which is the reason they always say BANK OFTEN. Loosing armour and weapons isnt a real concern at lower skill lvl since you'll have plenty of where that came from. Usually they even loose it on your corpse coz its of no value to higher skilled player and they are just after your potions, reagents, wood, ore and the likes. Even mounts can be farmed fairly easily by herb gathering and getting steed grass with which you can craft mounts. It took me a few hours of gathering, based on luck though, to get 8 steed grass which is the equivalent to 8 mounts.
Besides that i think for a smal company darkfall has alot of content and is very polished. Just the ui system can use some polishing here and there but its whole intend is functionality in a full loot pvp world which it accomplishes.
