Hey all,
I've been beta testing The Matrix Online since early October, and personally, having seen all the changes that this game has gone through in that short period of time, I'm uber-impressed. The dev team has really been open to ideas from the player community, and has done an awesome job of polishing this game to be what we've all wanted as much as possible. This isn't "hackhackslash - dead orc - wash rince repeat", this is immersive.
The game environment itself is gorgeous - if you haven't seen it, take a look at http://www.radiofreezion.com/index.php/video/ and you can download three fan-produced videos that give you a glimpse from the player perspective. (Note: To be fair, Radio Free Zion is my business, a 24/7 live webcast focused on The Matrix Online community - keep that in mind...yes, that link is gratuitous self-promotion, but the videos really are great...) The different areas of the MegaCity of The Matrix each have their own flavor, and there's no end to the possibilities for exploration - every building on every street is open and waiting for you to probe it for its secrets. This game compels me to play daily as it puts me in The Matrix itself.
And the player community itself just adds to that - of every online community I've dealt with in over 20 years online (yes, way back in the days of gopher...lol), this is the most active and cohesive group of people I've ever seen. The player organized events are a whole extra facet - duel tournaments, rave parties, scavenger hunts, auctions...the list goes on and on.
I invite anyone and everyone to take the red pill and see exactly how far the rabbit hole REALLY goes. If you haven't found your way into The Matrix yet, swing by #radiofreezion on irc.radiofreezion.com and hit the on-air DJ up - we're always honored to be able to give someone the red pill...

excellent post sundog, but is this place were we post to win that game card
I LOVE TMO
Hey Sundog!
I just have to say, ever since I started listening to RFZ, I have fell in love with it. It's all I listen to in my room now!
You guys do a really great job...and you even impress my friends around the place that don't play MxO!
Yeah MxO truely is an awesome game, and the community is so cool. The Valentine/NDA party last night was insane (I managed to get my 6800 ultra down to 3 fps! ) haha that's gotta prove how crazy it was!
The battle system is so much better than all of the other MMOs I've seen. Plus, you get really crazy skills like machine gun punch and a really fun uppercut called guard breaker. Heh I don't think it gets any better than this. I have never been so addicted to a game in my life! I'm losing some much needed sleep due to this game, and I DON'T CARE! Haha.
You get some really cool skills that you didnt get from Enter the Matrix. Hyperjump....Oh wow...hyperjump...I played with that skill for 2 hours straight...I'm not kidding. What is more fun than jumping entire buildings just to smash into the ground unharmed....That's sooo cool! There's countless others, that you have to play the game to experience...and they are definitely worth it.
The missions are really cool as well, like running errands for Zion, Machines, Merv, or some other person if you wish. I can't wait until I get to meet someone like Morpheus or Merv! That's gonna be a red letter day for me.
I give this game an 11 / 10...and it's not even retail yet!
Well, peace to all you guys at RFZ, and thanks for the killer work you guys do. I dedicate my life to you and to MxO. See ya on the other side of the looking glass!
-Esky<Shades of Grey>
Greets an' evenin' to yas
Been playing for only 2 weeks, having a blast though, combat system is easily the best I've ever seen.
The fighting styles kick ass Nothing more satisfying than the arm-breaking noises when you use Aikido
As well as the Karate, good hard thumps kicking them in the chest and head.
It's a game that can REEAAALLY satisfy your lust for violence.
The community is also great
Already I'm listening to RFZ the whole time I'm online, the players are all great fun to be with.
And the events! OH MAN THE EVENTS!
There was a huge rave setup like.. yesterday! Must've been around 100 people there! Was a blast man, so much community spirit man!
Also quite fun running from Agents when you're somewhere you shouldn't be
Agent Wong must be hating me soon.. (I think he crazy!)
Huzzah for MxO and it's Community!!
The Matrix Online is one of those games that gets my blood pumping, I love the fighting style in the game. I'm so sick of all the Fantasy MMO's out there, the Matrix Online is different from everything else you play. Its a truely amazing game.
One of the best things about this game is the Community and a great one at that. Thanks to Sundog and all the amazing DJ's on RFZ (Radio Free Zion) they have created a Community like non other in any other MMO's. When you listen to Radio Free Zion you get into the music and they have this ability to gather everything into a night club in the game and dance the whole NIGHT AWAY with live DJ's. In game interaction with everyone is amazing, the emotes, the duels, and best of all the community. One night we had over 100 people in one night club Dancing and having a BLAST!!!
You listen to Radio Free Zion and it just makes you want to join in and be apart of the community.
Yes the game has bugs and glitches, but what MMO doesn't? I'm sure lots of you have played MMO's before, We know how much the Game Masters and the support in games are like and theres only one word for it: Crappy! I'm in the Beta and let me say the games support team is there for everyone. I wrote a ticket and 5 minutes later they were there fixing my problem. MxO is ON TOP OF EVERYTHING!
I play WoW and I've dropped the game because it doesn't have a community like Matrix Online. Matrix Online is not another swords and magic game, Its hard to explain the combat system, but the moves and abilities you have in this game is like no other MMO I've played and I've been playing MMO's for 5 years now. I get into fighting in this game because it sucks me in, just watching my character do these moves are crazy! Theres Agents in the game too and you have to watch yourselves, Next thing I knew some NPC business man started to shake violently. I was thinking to myself "WTF is wrong with this game" Until I realized he transformed into an Agent. I was like "Oh Shit!!! run!!!!" You should of seen me, I ran so fast I left behind my clothes. I had my tail inbetween my legs as I ran away like there was no tomorrow. The Agent was lvl255 and he scared the crap out of me. Just having Agents appear near you and hunt you down in the game is addicting. In the Movie they always said "If you see an Agent you run like hell the opposite direction." Thats exactly what I did. Theres just so much you can do in this game that I could live in the Matrix, unforunately the real world is holding me back and the Agents of course, their some scary ******!!!
You wont be disappointed with this game, I've played CoH, L2, SWG and WoW, I wish I could take them all back and trade them in for Matrix Online when it comes out.
There is no World of Warcraft... There is no Star Wars Galaxies... There are no other MMO's... There is only the Matrix. I hope to see you guys in the release of Matrix Online. I'm a Proud Supporter and Listener of Radio Free Zion.
Yo Sundog!
First off, I have to agree that RF is off the chain! I listen to it pretty much anytime I'm in front of a PC. (and being a network admin that's quite a lot)
As for the game. I'm loving it more and more all the time. I've recently started coding and it's a blast. I enjoyed crafting in SWG, but this crafting system is far better. And best of all you don't need to spend endless hours gathering resources. You get them from MoB's while you adventure.
The combat system is engaging and the special moves really add to the strategy of the thing. Especially once you start fighting the tougher opponents who will use them back on you.
Anyway, you get the point. I keep talking about this game to my buddies and the ones who were lucky enough to score a stress test key are loving the game as much as I.
Oh, and one more thing I gotta say. The community is second to none! The player run events we've had throughout beta have been a tonne of fun. Once the game goes live and you add to that an evolving story with direction from the Brother's W., and you've got the recipy for one kick ass MMORPG.
Bring it on I say!!!

The difference between hard and impossible is a thousand miles wide...
How much do I love TMO and what do love about it?
The possibilities of this game are endless and being a tester for only about a month, this game has made massive advances, improvements all around. The best thing about TMO is the community hands down. We definatly got to see our input in action during the last couple of weeks with our memory/ability requirement being changed. We discussed in our forum what we didn't like about the upgrading our abilities and that it changes every five levels, rather than every level, preventing a lvl 14 character taking on a 15 character effectively. The Development team read our complaints and went to work hardcore and fixed it in the next patch. That is just one major improvement they have done to the game that we requested. I beta tested TSO and never felt like any bug, complaint or request was ever handled. Next you have RFZ (Radio Free Zion) They do an awesome job of getting an internet radio station on the air and you can listen to in ingame, do contests in the game with them, etc. Put all that up with the awesome background of the Matrix, the fighting, the story, and frightening of all, Agents. I preordered this game knowing I would have a chance to beta test this, and through the usual things due to testing, I'm definatly staying jacked in, and my real world, will never ever be the same again. This game is awesome all around, the Massive Mega City, massive storyline, fight animations, the different abilities, all give this replay value of this game a huge boost and if your not playing this game, you don't know MMORPG's and you won't learn everything about the Matrix.
The matrix online is truley a freaking awesome game. I mean whats better than fighting it out matrix style? heh you tell me. If you jack into RFZ ( Radiofreezion.com party 24/7) its even better!!! btw Sundog is very very cool. Especially when Moniker --also known as a queen-- ( too some us ^^ ) is at the turn tables! Anyways lets talk more about MXO, its a change from all of the old style fighting MMORPGS and stuff. Join us with the parties RFZ(the DJS) throw everyday practically, you can win tons of prizes, dance all night and have a blast!!!!! You can access EVERY building... yup you heard me right, if you see a building you can go in it! but its really fun when an agent tracks you down, heh better run far... they dont stop chasing you till you are dead. PVP is very fun, you can also get the abilities that some characters have in the movie (such as the super jump everyone does!!! =D woot yea partay!!) tons of choices to choose from in the MXO. damn right it rocks.
Go to your game store near you and preorder it ($5 to preorder it.. come on thats cheap for beta), ask for the cd key and your set (also you get to play 3 days before the game comes out, get hyper jump from the start and you get to beta it till march 30th!!!!) is it worth?$5 hell yea it is, later!!
get this game and youll be hooked. this game kicks ass!!!! listen to Interim and sunnydog Im a RFZ listener... known as... well..... Xenetic duh (btw... wild parties in the game... get it....)
The Matrix is something I don't find myself guilty enjoying. I have been playing MMORPGs for over three years, and to-date, this game is the only one that has managed to make me feel as if there was something worth sticking to one particular game, and deleting my accounts on the rest. The beautiful, enriched environments are nothing short of an artistic masterpiece (at highest quality naturally, which as with all new games requires a to-specifications computer). This is, might I add, the first "modern" MMORPG with enough gusto to garner attention. It is also an amazing attempt to further the relationship between movies and games, by drawing us into the atmosphere of the movie and making us question our own existence, not only in the game, but in reality.
Don't believe me? Well, after multiple conversations with Merris, Nokternl, Maudite and other players within The Matrix Online, I can safely state that this is the most intelligent, broad-minded gathering of players to-date from any MMORPG. I can't recall how many times I've waxed philosophical with players merely from discussing my Machinist faction. I could even go into an explanation right now. That's how interesting this all is. I have honestly, and without obsession, become attached to the progression of my character.
That being said, I'm sure it's no question that the social aspect of this game is beyond belief. I read complaints on the hype-meter that stated the game was too broad and carbon-copy, that there was not enough variance in the insides of buildings. Well, I challenge those people to package those textures, render those vertices, and display those floating points until they're blue in the face, because I tell you now that this game will already be massive in disk space. Soon enough, we will inevitably face the stream of comments about how this game strains peoples' hard drives. Redpills and Bluepills alike will have words about how pointlessly large the game is, and how compressing technology really should take a step forward. Well remember something, people. When items are compressed, it takes work to uncompress them. Would you really remove the most beautiful part of the Matrix Online, the LOADING TIMES, and increase them ten-fold? Would you like to wait four minutes on a 3.2GHz 2GB DDR400DC computer for Mara Central to come into sight? Prefer waiting six or ten to jack in?
There will always be complaints about games. But I am here to tell you that through my experience with all other MMORPGs, that the experience is unique, and a unique experience is something that can only be determined by experience. Experience The Matrix Online for yourself, and be positive. What you find, you can only know to be amazing. The fact that coders and mapmakers created a place this large for us to explore, quest, and socialize in is simply incredible. It's staggering, the amount of variance that there is.
Lastly, I'd like to talk about Radio Free Zion (www.radiofreezion.com FREE WED RADIO for players The Matrix Online). "Jack In, Crank It Up" has nearly become the theme of The Matrix Online. It is a Mantra; a chant emitted by almost all players inside the world. Seven out of Ten The Matrix Online players that I spoke to (I spoke to thirty) were listening to RFZ (Radio Free Zion) -- that's twenty-one out of thirty! RFZ has expanded The Matrix Online community, though maybe sometimes the parental advisory on some shows may be a turn-off to some (I personally find "Jack in and **** you" to be a hilarious slogan on that show), it's definitely an amusing and game-enhancing experience. Travel to any given nightclub during the evening, and there is almost always a party of some kind going down, usually hosted by the thoughtful DJs of RFZ.
The community spirit is wonderful. There are charity auctions, of which most recently was the Valentine's Day Charity Auction (over 3.8 BILLION information [in-game currency] was raised, and distributed to everyone attending the dance -- that's 28 MILLION info per clubber, people). There were over two hundred attendees, all tuning in to RFZ, and a hundred percent of them were getting down. The community spirit is simply phenomenal, and I don't think there would have been a better place to be (save maybe my girlfriend's apartment if she hadn't dumped me for being too long-winded ) on Valentine's Day evening. The organization, everyone obeying in-game rules... It makes me so very excited to be a part of The Matrix Online.
I'd like to make some personal shout-outs to Sundog, Belana, and DJ Fubar from the RFZ. Their sense of duty to The Matrix Online community surpasses anything I expected from a simple radio station. Fedoras off to them, and all other "employees" of RFZ, and players of The Matrix Online.
Join me in-game sometime. My redpill name is Adrian Villicana... But you may call me Interim.

I'll admit, I'm a noob when it comes to MxO. Sundog here got me in the beta only a couple days ago. But I already LOVE it. The interaction, the combat...everything recalls the Matrix movies, while also going a bit deeper. If the the strategy and awesomeness of the graphics, immersion, combat, everything isn't enough for you, you have the GREAT community. Radio Free Zion...I love it. And, I mean, the guy who created this thread gave me a beta account for no other reason than being nice. From what I see, the developers actually listen to your comments and complaints, and the game changes. If those two things STILL aren't enough for you, you have the continuation of the story of the Matrix after Revolutions, with monthly cutscenes and a story that is actually effected by the players. I truly think this is the best of the MMO's, and I can't wait to jack in on March 22nd.
THE MATRIX TOTALLY PWNS FACE!!!
one of the better mmorpg's in development and surely rapes those that are out now like star wars crackalaxies and the kids game known as wow.
One of the best things about MxO is the community and those that help bring it together such as http://www.radiofreezion.com. RFZ is filled with tons of kick ass dj's that throw contests, parties, and other events all for the community. Possibly the greatest idea ever for the MxO community to have a dedicated web radio station dedicated to the fans and players of a single game. Sundog is an ingenious inovater and a master idealist.
NOT TO MENTION MONIKER SLAMS ASS at THE TABLES!!!
RFZ YOU ROCK!
i'd like game card
Where'd all you guys come from? I've been posting for months promoting the game and I've had like only one or two voices of support. Now Sundog posts and you all come out of the woodwork :P..
Oh well, still good :P
EDIT: Noticed you all have like 1-3 posts, guessing Sundog pulled a rallied thread here to promote the game haha. Oh well, whatever works.
Sundog brought us out of the dark.
Most people in the Matrix know me as IMJIce or my temporay Beta name IMJIcc. I have been beta testing this game since the beginning of October 2004. Let me tell you all, this game a LONG way from what it is now so far in the Beta world! When I first start playing this game, there was still so much you could do that it took me a whole day just to figure out the basic things one can do! As time moved on, I became much more of an experienced player and I learned many new things since then. But still, I'm learning new things everyday, like what clothes give certain buffs I need for combact, or what different emotes I can use (I LOVE /mood stoic!). Here's just a few things off the top of my mind I can think of that you can do while being jacked in The Matrix Online:
- You can constantly swap abilites in and out, like if you are a Karate Master and you want to make yourself a new ability for that part of the ability tree, load up your coder abilities and use various code bits to make the ultimate abilities for your RSI.
- Trade various items with friends throughout the Matrix. For example, you can give your friend a Stinger shotgun that you got froma dungeon for a certain amount of money (info)
- Do many kinds of missions, whether from Assassination to Recruitment, for three kinds of factions: Zion, Merovingian, or Machines.
- Literally miles and miles of landscape. The environment is rich with life, such as beautiful skyscrapers, peaceful parks, and stunning sunsets! Whether you want to be a thug at Richland (Slums) or you want to roleplay as the rich guy on the block at Downtoen, there's a certain place in the Matrix for everyone!
- You can go solo and rescue the Matrix by yourself or you can join a faction that supports your beliefs, such as The Furious Angles , The Illuminati, or The Royal Guard.
- The game is always being updated with updates and patches. Maybe sometime soon, you just might get something in that patch that you could only dream of!!
- The community is one of the best parts about this game. Whether it's from parties at clubs being hosted by various organizations (for example, RFZ) to holding auctions from a variety of items (sometimes, even owning a person for a day!), this whole community is the best that society has to offer.
- The Constructs KICK MAJOR ASS!!!! I can't put it into words. All I can say is that you have to go into them and check out the place for yourself. As far as gameplay goes in the Constucts, there are so many things you can do in there. I usually like to hide in places, like behind a top part of a roof on top of a hut at a enemy base and jump any enemies that I feel I can take on. (No offense to the ones I have jumped so far!)
- Eventually meet famous characters in the Matrix after building your reputation up enough. THAT TOTALLY KICKS ASS!!!!
- etc.
Those are just a FEW things I can point out. If I wanted to go in-depth, I could go on for hours, but it would probably take up too much room. Oh well. I don't know what you're all heard about this game, but this is by FAR better than any MMORPG I have ever played! And this is just Beta!!!!! WHOEVER dises, or critizes this game must have never played any other true MMORPG before!! The Matrix Online is DA BOMB now, and will always be. The love I have for this game is UNDESCRIBILE! Screenshots and other sorts of clips of The Matrix Online can't and will never tell you how great this game is, unlike other shity MMOs I've played. You have to actually be in the game in order to understand what I mean. Once you're in The Matrix, there's no turning back.... You're brain will be hooked on this game like if you went to get stoned with your best friends in the back of a shagin wagon! Crazy, isn't it? Well, it's true... Ask anyone and they'll tell you the same thing. Well, I give this game a 10 out of 10. And if anyone totally disagree with me or hate this game for whatever gay reason they got, then they can just go back to playing the stupid ferry games they got... Oh well, The Matrix Online KICKS ASS and all the true and honest game players know that. One more point to bring up. I have to give all the staff members of The Matrix Online, including the Devs, my biggest thanks for making this game possible. If it wasn't for you all, there would be no MxO. Bless you all and keep up the great work. Until we meet again in the Matrix, peace out... Cheers!
IMJIce of The Furious Angels
Worship RFZ. they are gods. They helped me get into the Beta,an di owe them my existance. Worship them you poor soles. WORSHIP!!!
I'm another RFZ.com poster, and I'm known as Blacksting on RFZ, on MxO, and on this site.
I first found out about MxO through Fileplanet. I was simply bored beyond belief, of all the other MMORPG's. I saw a stress test key opportunity, and saw it as a holy light.
Enough about the reasons why I started MxO, but know that it was random luck that got me into MxO and RFZ, and enthuiasm.
The Matrix Online is another MMORPG spawning from other popular media, just like World of Warcraft, and StarWars Galaxies, and Final Fantasy 11. The Matrix Online may be similiar to CoH, I don't know, never played CoH, but here are a few points I have to show how MxO is awsome and unique:
1) Playing the Matrix Online feels like your on stage in the making of a fourth Matrix movie. It has many of the scenes, and adds a new feels of chaos after Neo's noble sacrifice.
2) The combat system starts off basic, and just like Neo became stronger through "Information" and "Codes" , your combat system becomes more powerful, unique, and easier to use.
3) There are bonus abilities such as "Hyper Jump", "Hyper Sprint" , and other cool attack moves that come directly from the movies and the PS2 game. (Body shot can be done on that game, if your skilled enough)
4) The scene is set after Neo's big "Invasion of the smith's" battle, so the area where they fought is in ruins. Meaning you can visit special places where scenes of the movie took place. If you remember the movie, Neo met the "white rabbit" in a club, which you can visit in game.
5) You have no choice but to be a redpill when you start off, but you can also choose to work for the Machines (Agent smith starts off as one) , Zion (Morpheus all the way) , or the Exiles (What Smith becomes). You have a reputation with each of the factions, and later on can go to pvp zones against players of those factions. World of Warcraft: Horde Vs. Alliance pvp? Nah. Try shooting an exile from the distance while two Machines jump you.
6) Even in BETA (Bugged Even Though Available) there are many groups of players getting together and having fun with activities. RadioFreeZion is just one big group that everybody likes. (I'm listening to their radio as I type) . The guild system works uniquely however. You have a faction, which is the largest organization, which has crews *Smaller groups of people who have similiarities* , which allows you to be a smaller division of a major force. American Army anybody? This is a body that knows what the left arm is doing while the right arm is slamming an exile in the face.
7) The creativity of the Matrix is rather cool. You jack into the matrix online, organize your inventory and other things in the loading zone (Remember Neo in the white land with racks of guns? Loading zone that was) , and choose a hardline (Pay phone) to jack into. And since your a virtual character in a virtual world, your not paying with virtual money, your not paying for anything. You ask the operator to transfer/load an item you wish into your database, and the operator simply requires an ammount of information to do so.
These are my many, long, boring, points. I'm glad if people find my nonsense useful, maybe they will jack into the matrix and have fun. If my ramblings are useless, jack into the Matrix Online to learn the truth. Either way, in the words of DJ Monicker (Or however you spell it) Jack in and *Parental Edit* Off.
This BlackSting, the pimped out Morpheus.
Mr. Debarlo asked me to pass along his gratitude to the RFZ members that suddenly got a wild hair to show up out here and post their opinions about the game. Spreading the good word is always appreciated.
Word of caution: Next time try being a little less obvious. Other boards are less forgiving (trust me, I've been all over the place for months).
i would bow to this game.i would play this game all day night.i am going to tell you all how this game deserve a 10/10. for not all rpg games that you can create a player and customize.you can also can talk to the coolest Dj like Sundog or Omega and all the other DJ.theres lots of things you can do on this game. you can create an event and give out info money. or hire a person to do your dirty work as in people or zion people that assassin other people. or help you on your mission. you can have crew of your own and stick by each other no matter what.no one and i mean no one should give this game a 6/10 just because one little miss hap.this game is like better than all rpg game. this game should be givin 10/10. this game is better than World of Warcraft.did i mention that this game is a wire fu. and theres dozen of weapons.and martial arts manuever. plus you can get married and invite your friends to come.and go to alot clubs and have fun. plus you check the news thats on the game and see the event thats coming up.and i want to mentioned the tapping in to sources of info in the game to create or steal code fragments.frienfs to meet and places to go. hyper sprint and hyper jump and other moves, and getting on levels. for DJ, you talk to them about playing your song on the matrix online game.the best thing about this game of my opinion is data node.a Hacker, spy, soldier, and theres one or two more things but i forgot. i not saying this for the prepaid card. im saying this because people is saying that this game is its fighting style or something like that it stink. i like this game and and other people like it to.im telling to everybody that please dont give this game a 6/10 or below.have it in your heart that this game is not stupid. please give this game higher than it really is. if you bought it, you thought this game is the best.
