Preparemapchange had a bad level name!

sakersaker Member RarePosts: 1,458

Try to run game, get to character select (did succeed in creating apparently), select the character, try and start get this error, then the game crashes out to desktop.

Preparemapchange had a bad level name! Check the log (tagged Preparemapchange) for info!

I've searched the computer for this log, it is nowhere to be found...

Anyone else have this happen? Is there any way to do a full file check (I'm asking for miracles here aren't I?)?

Your best bet is to probably post this over on the official forums.  The fan that wrote the patcher for them sometimes replies on there.  Maybe he can help you.

I think his name was Paratus or something like that.

I believe removing certain files will cause the downloader/launcher to re-acquire them.

this seems pretty rare, as there are only a few posts mentioning this, and no responses on a fix.

I bet the character information was saved as being on a certain map that no longer exists (name change, size change, etc) since it was edited since the last patch. With all the terrain bugs that have been fixed I wouldnt be surprised if every map was in some way different, keeping anyones old characters from loading into the game.

It could also be a bug in your starting location...

can you make a new character and selecting a new starting area?

I did try creating a 2nd character (forgot to even select any particular area) got the same thing.

Then I'm betting it's corrupt files.

I have not had to deal with corrupt files on the machines i've installed it on... but I believe if you move the content out of the folder, the launcher should redownload those files... I'm not sure which files you want to move... but don't delete them.

Just move some files somewhere else and see if the patcher redownloads them.

Only "help" they've had on their forums, is try re-installing! Ha! Ya know what, I'm done with this train wreck. I've literally been involved with alphas that were far more professional, better run in every way. The only success I suspect these people will see is in being the new all time winner in total "worst launch" category, and that's assuming they can launch anything (big assumption).

yea save the patches some where and reinstall them with the current patcher. sometimes if you do something out of order or dont let the patcher install the files. it screws your install thats why reinstalling fixes it. its only a train wreck if they release in its current shape.

i doubt there going to release it like this probly with maybe a tad more content and les bugs but theyw otn release the game until thye fix this lag and get the next content patch in and work on bugs.. i think this is why they started the open beta so early to fix any lag issues before the release. i doubt they will have it 100% but really people call darkfall a trian wreck and its doing just fine.. screy launch they had but crap happens im going to bed no point in really posting to people that are jus tplain negative because something messe dup. just laugh it off and fix the problem. and give them time

    Sorry to hear that.

Your bug is in the minority it seems, as very few other individuals have experienced it. Since there doesn't appear to be a solution, or history of this, the best solution anyone CAN give you is to reinstall the game and see if it happens again.

Bad installs happen... the quickest, and easiest way to fix them is to just re-install.

If you can figure out what exactly causes the issue... let us know here or at the MO Forums.
