If you dont like it just dont play it like me, many do this they stop with this.
But im affraid its mmo community there own fault, they seems to buy into this crap same with DLC and soon we dont even get those games you just pay and play and dont own them anymore and no controll over anything.
They slowly control you and majority dont even know:p
Games played:AC1-Darktide'99-2000-AC2-Darktide/dawnsong2003-2005,Lineage2-2005-2006 and now Darkfall-2009..... In between WoW few months AoC few months and some f2p also all very short few weeks.
Does that make McDonald's or Burger King thieves as well? After all it's not like you go kill the cow, harvest the wheat, make the bread, pick the onions and tomatos, and make the special sauce yourself. According to so many here, THAT'S CHEATING!!!!
The only thing about micro-transactions that I find horrible, is the fact that they are taking over on companies.
You pay the monthly fee for added content, not to buy standard content and buy more content. They milk players for all they are worth. The thing is, the communities for MMOs are not mature enough to understand what they are losing anymore. (since their moms and dads are the ones paying). Soon all companies will have item markets if this holds up.

Sorta like car companies charging you for options. MY GOD WHAT IS THIS WORLD COMING TO??!!!

You can negotiate the price of a car down, or to get extra options for free, unlike with MMO services.
.. Or are you one of those chumps who walks in and pays full sticker price?
Well, I can see how when you are being forced to pay for things to advance it can be disheartening. I think that making a negative impression of MMO games is going to cause a problem for MMO companies that are trying to turn a profit. If these business practices make too many people upset then they will see too many subscribers leave. But if it is a user wanting to do this by choice then it is ludicrous to believe that they shouldn't have to pay a fee for changes that are optional.
these are the sort of microtrans that i think are fine. they dont make the buyers more powerful than normal players, but they will end up helping the entire player base by putting a larger resource pool in the hands of the developers without ingame inbalance. you dont want to shell 10 bucks out for an appearance change, or whatever, then just roll a new toon for free.
i still think Aion is lame like butter side down floor toast, but there is nothing wrong or untoward about their choice to make these offers.

There are lots of things that used to be offered at no extra charge; airline extras, roads, radio, television (not the set obv), water, etc. The times they are a changin'.
And I'm "mature" enough to remember when those things were free.
Well I think the problem with microtranscations is when they hardwired into the design of the game. It is one thing to create a game and then think up lots of fluff items to put in the item shop but when a game is designed around how to maximize item shop sales it becomes another matter.
First two didn't seem like much, but then paying for a gender change? Ridiculous. That's not as bad as other games, but this is a sign of what's to come.

You are never forced to pay for anything. You can always quit and don't play.
Wow has been selling name-change and a bunch of other service for years and they still have 11.5M subscribers. No one cares about options like that. If you don't like it, don't pay for it .. or quit playing.
NCSoft isn't the first company to offer paid race or gender changes. These things have been requested by the Aion community since it was first there. Aion is one of the better games in terms of character customization so it makes a lot of sense to offer these types of items.
I don't see what the big deal is. I personally think it's a good thing. The player gets what they want and the company gets a profit.
All those things should be free since you already paid for the client and on top of that you pay a monthly fee in order to play the game but hey if the players really wants to pay and pay again for every little feature added to the game who am I to stop them?
I just won't be fleeced like a stupid sheep anymore.
Please list a popular AAA style MMO that gives you race, gender, server changes, or name changes for free. I'm pretty sure you can't since those pratices have been around since the Dawn of Time....even UO charged for that stuff. Its not fleecing since those serves are NOT covered by the normal game play it is a database change.
Your paying to play the game not to have access to the database and change data at will.
EverQuest II lets you change your appearance for ingame money, atleast it was like that when I played it.
I look on it like this: I pay for the game, I pay the monthly fee and now I have to pay more money for shitty little things like server transfers, name changes and appearance changes?!
Fuck that!
All those memories will be lost in time, like tears in the rain.

A game should charge for things like that. Otherwise, you'd have idiots requesting it all the time. The game gets you access to the game. If you later decide you don't like your name or the server you chose, you can create a new character or you can pay the company a fee to do the work for you. In fact, it's ludicrous to expect that service for free.
Hey that's cheap for a gender change. The real thing costs quite a bit!
I guess a gender change doesn't bother me. I don't think I'd ever need one, and it doesn't have any affect on the balance of the game so it wouldn't seem to have any affect on my game play at all.

It's not for free, that service should be included in the monthly fee.
If people doesn't demand better service they will never get it and whats so difficult with doing server transfers for free?
Also name and appearance changes could be done ingame at a NPC so no need for requesting it to anyone who doesn't like to be bothered while sleeping at their desk.
All those memories will be lost in time, like tears in the rain.

Yeah so every griefer/hacker/bots/whatever can have it easy and chaneg their names so they will be free from blocks and reports nice idea...
Cosmetic changes, name changes and that kind of stuff isn't at issue here. Those are priced fairly and in line with other such features in other games.
What is at issue is they have taken "in game event items" (the chocolate packs) and are selling them for $10 for A SINGLE CHARACTER. These packs include sought after dye colors (pink and red) which can only be used for a single suit of armor on a single character (which would be outgrown within a few days probably) a few Health/Mana or DP potions (available in game already) and some emotes (also available in game already).
So NCSoft is asking that you pay $10 per character for a one time use dye pack essentially. Everything else is in game already or given to players for free by other MMO developers for their holiday events.
If it was $10 per account and all your characters got 2-3 sets of the dye, that would be worth $10. But for a single character on a single server in a game where you can have multiples? It's pure greed really.

You are just picking the raisins out of the cake here.
If you can't address the whole post then don't bother to address it at all.
All those memories will be lost in time, like tears in the rain.
In some ways this is worse than what Cryptic is doing with Champions. The name change is more expensive, and charging for character customization? In Champions that is called visiting the tailor, and it is right there in the game, not through the C store. You can visit the tailor as often as you want, and even have several costumes per character. Also, there aren't any game play effecting items in the C store, and there are no "candy packs" that contain in-game items like that. Many people chose between Champions and Aion at launch: at least Cryptic was honest about doing MTs from the beginning, whereas NCsoft waited a few months to dump it on their players.
I want a game to be all in with the box price. That includes fluff too. Example. Why would anyone want to pay for a silly balloon hat you might wonder? Well then I think. Why can't i just find / loot / questreward / player made or buy the same hat from a npc merchant with ingame gold instead?
Problem with DLC is where will it end? less choice, getting less and paying more is not something a consumer should want.

Cryptic is trying a Customer Development approach to MMO creation.
Yeah compare a super hero game were customization is a part of the game hench a super hero with a fantasy rpg.
