Do online games along the lines of FF7 exist? (Turn-based RPG Strategy/Tactics)

GureguGuregu Member Posts: 3

I recently tried this game called "Sonny 2" from armorgames.com, and became instantly addicted. Upon finding out that the game must be restarted on heroic (that's a lot of work) in order to get to the last level, I began to wonder if there were any other online turn-based RPG's like it out there on the market. F2P wouldn't hurt.

Any ideas?

I played atlantica online for some month... liked it! And its F2P. But all the gambling stuff in cash shop is addicting. Watch out :-P

    Wait... Atlantica is turn based?

    www.atlanticaonline.com/

If you want real online turn based strategy though try www.poxnora.com or magic the gathering online.

Atlantica is the only turn based MMO though, and it's actually quite well done for a F2P.  Just watch out.  As you advance further you will see how much the cash shop is needed.

I like the whole turn based thin but it's more like Pokemon or some trading card game than a game like FF or whatever else I was getting at.

I enjoy having the ability to customize a tree of skills, change/upgrade gear, etc. And, of course, level up the main character and his buddies, or however it may work.

In Atlantica online you have to equip/gear your whole team... Main+up to 8 mercs. And the main has some skills you can work on or get with quests when i remember right. Dont nail me on that. Just try it... its free =)

I know what you're getting at with the Final Fantasy reference, and the closest game I have seen to that is Wonderland Online. It's not a great game, but if all you want is turn based fighting, and you can overlook the chibi characters and light, childish design then go for it.

Atlantica is one of the most unique MMOs around. And not just in its combat.

The only mmorpg that's decently done that I've played that reminds me of the FF fighting system is Atlantica Online.  I just wish there was a game like Atlantica Online where you only had your main character.  Getting 9(or in my case every merc lol) upto 120 with max gear and stats gets really expensive.  I probably spent around $100 since Item shop was opened, but that's still alot cheaper than subscription games :)

    Zodiac is the newest one.

Dofus is the most popular turn based mmorpg by far. It is also the only true tactical turn based full mmorpg.

Moblishing Armies is a minigame in Runescape. It is also tactical and turn based and the 2 years Jagex spent on developing it were more than most of the turn based rpg in the market. It can't be played without getting gold from taking part in other activities in Runescape though.

     Like others have said, Atlantica.

It has fairly limited features though, combat system is great but PvP in any ijji game is heavily cash shop dependant..

There will be FF XIV, dont know when.

You dont need the Cash shop to advance in atlantica, i lvled up to lv97 without any cash-shop items. Its just lil bit annoying to run instead of teleporting, but you can buy all the items from the marketplace, without paying cash. (there is a trick to get money for nothing, but it wouldnt work, if anyone know how it works XD)

The only game I can think of that's turn based is Dofus, but it's nothing like FF7 really.

There is some cheap cartoon games,Atlantica Online is turn based, but i don't really like it,it has a little too much luck involved and the ROWS of mobs makes it dumb, and unrealistic.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
