Might be returning but one vital question.

Wondering if EQ2 still has group play available at all levels, I haven't played in 3-4 years and I remember forced grouping to be one of the turnoffs for me at first but now I got burned out of soloing in an MMO by that ¨other¨ game and I am now revisiting my older MMOs to see if I can find an actual MMORPG experience again, hell might even try DAoC again if EQ2 turns out to be a single player online exprience now like most everything coming out on the MMO market these days. If I come back and make a new character will I be able to group the moment I leave the tutorial area or is everyone 50+ and soloing now?

I'd also like to know =) and to the OP if you start up EQ2 or DAOC again let me know I've been looking into those games but wanted someone to level with.

Personally, I know I can solo 1-21 in a few hours just questing. They've really made solo-questing much easier in the game. That being said, I think grouping is far more effective than soloing, but it wouldn't be a forced option. In all honesty, if your character is good enough you can solo a lot of the content at your level.

Being able to solo and wanting to is two different things, I won't resub to an MMO that I won't be able to group from start to finish.

I have very random play times at the moment so setting up with fixed people isn't realy an option either...

there is group content at all levels, but for the most part people solo up to at least 70 or 80 and then do the grouping thing as endgame.  it's a 5-year-old game, so starting areas are largely empty and have been re-designed to be doable solo in orer to get people to the endgame faster.

if you want to group a lot at low levels, you probably want to jump into one of the more recently released games.   Though not recently released, I remember LoTRo being a lot more group-oriented, but it's been out a while, so i'm not sure how it is now.

If you get running with a good bunch , the mentoring system in EQ2 helps a bunch anyone can mentor down and group up with lower guildies at anytime , so youarent pressured do have to log in and run " dungeon" tonight , it can be set up any nite with the same crew...

I have yet to even see what LoTRo looks like but judging from its forum it's now a solo oriented game and the other new MMOs follow the WoW mentality closely now and group play is not an option (I don't concider end-game right now I just want to have fun. I am tierd of raiding and the elitist mentality that only the level cap part of the game counts)

I am not an hardcore ?indian? MMO player either so no DarkFall/Mortal Online for me and looking in the upcoming MMO list here there doesn't seem to be anything that will bring back the old ways.

    Hey Hey

EQ2 is a solo grind, while there are lots of group areas to explore , SOE has slowly taken most of them away , as an example they recently re-did SS (DoF area) And got ride of most of the Herioc mobs , and 2x raid mobs.  About a year ago they did this w/ LS, and EF.  That being said they are people that LvL lock for AA and to see all the content, and there are guilds that run threw old world raid content on lvl locked chars.  You will just have to look for them.

Personally my only hope for a group based game is FFXIV ;>

I have not looked much into FFXIV because of how boring FFXI was, if they redo the combat system then I might get excited XD Just downloaded DDO and I am having fun, lot's of grouping, non-grindy content and interesting gameplay (No PvP but until something new comes around i'll be on there)

Thanks for the warning about EQ2

Yes, it does. If you want it. Most people don't.

Dunno which game most of you are playing but last expansion was nearly 80% group content? just 1 overland zone and like 15 large group instances...

if you can find a good guild... of which most servers have 20 or 30 the grouping is NEVER a problem...
