I'd like to see an ALL WEEK beta not just a Beta WEEKEND... Since I play every DAY!

It will probably be a nice game but why play something only 2 days a week when you can play it 7 days a week?

    DOH!

I hate the fact that you have to preorder to play the beta.

    Thats nonsense

    Wrong.

You can play the beta if you pre-order. Plenty of people were accepted to the beta without pre-ordering the product.

If youre talking about beta keys offered as promotions, they only last 1-2 Beta Events. A preorder beta key will keep you in the entire time. But since the game is getting very close to release, preordering just to get in beta would be a little silly.

Let me rephrase it. I hate the fact that I wasn't accepted into the beta, so I would have to pre-order it to be able to play in the beta.  Which I'm not going to do.

first of all they made 2 open beta..the first one was during the E3 and the second one was somewhere in october if im right..its was the WPE(World Preview Event) i tried the game for the first time during the WPE and i knew i will buy the game so paying a big 10$(which will be deduced from my retail box) to allow me to play the game one weekend each month until they release the game isnt really a nonsense..

i still preffer this kind of marketing than those like MxO who force you to have a CC to play the open beta

Which is precisely why I haven't participated in the open Beta. They should be ashamed of themselves for this.

I don't think people should have to pay $10 to play in beta. This is a disturbing trend that is becoming more common.

With most video games, you can download a demo for free to see if you want to buy it. You don't have to pay $10 to download the demo.

    beta /= demo

there will probably be some form of demo once the game has actually been released. Beta is about finding bugs, and arena.net have decided to have a long alpha test with beta weekends to stress test the servers. Its actually a very clever rollout, designed to both minimise the development cost and hassle, and build hype surrounding release (and not let too many players complete everything before the actual game starts).

PvE in general is pretty lame, if you think long and hard about it. You are spending your time beating a severely gimped AI that would lose to a well trained monkey. Best not to think too long and hard why you are wasting time playing games in general actually...

but still...I hate the rules that we had to wait for 2-3 weeks for playing it.........and when we play it....we only got 2 days to play the game

now repeat that with the word 'test' instead of 'play'...

i wonder sometimes whether companies actually get any benefit from beta...its clear that the beta test for WoW didnt really help them that much looking at the problems they've had over the last couple of weeks...while beta's are indeed seemingly becoming demos i'd imagine that smaller companies would actually like people to bug test, and limit the access time for those that simply want to 'play'. FoM got slated for not being 'fun' at its open beta, tbh it smacks of newbies who want everything now and arent prepared to wait (or put in testing) for a better game.

ArenaNet gets and uses tons of feedback from these weekend events. They have a more formal testing group that has regular access to the game. They're the ones who test out specific features, etc. and are expected to report bugs.

Also they've said that they don't really need the BWEs for load-testing. They can do that internally. The BWEs are strictly for general user feedback (and a little publicity). After the events they cull through the fansite boards for opinions on what people liked and what they didn't.

They probably get a lot more /bugs reported during a BWE than on a normal day, but for the most part they just want to know if people like what they've done since the last one.

    How about this:
--> My living is earned by Computer Programming and has been so for over 27 years.

Have been an avid video gamer and computer gamer for over 30 years.

I do report bugs in great detail when I find them.

    ::::05::
But why should I bother playing a game ONLY on the weekends when I play ALL week long?

for this game I think it's worth the risk,  besides it's just 10 dollars! OMG, I'm poor now! I just spent ten dollar!!

You should regard anytime you get to play the game before it is released as a bonus.

Beta events are also a great idea for getting player feedback. In open betas that last for months most of the players will be busy immersed in the game for the entire duration but in a weekend event once it finished everyone will still be wanting to talk about it and be eager for more and will likely spend lots of times on GW forums and things.

What if every MMORPG made you pay ten dollars to try it? Would you pay  thousands of dollars to try all of them? I think not.
