WoW back where I started...

MattDaddy10MattDaddy10 Member UncommonPosts: 30

Well I've  tried all of the other popular MMO's....AoC, LoTRO, CoH, WAR, EVE, Aion, etc and nothing can match WoW.

The gameplay in WoW is so smooth.  WoW is the TOTAL package.  So I've started a new character a Mage and am leveling like crazy!

I tried to like the other games, I really did but nothing seemed to fill the void of not playing WoW.  Bring on Cataclysm!!

I too had the same thing happen to me except for it was a different game.  FFXI was the 2nd MMO I played but the only one to keep me hooked. Ive played just about every P2P mmo out there in search of something better and nothing  has kept my interest like FFXI did.

It just sucks that I wasted all that time and money looking for something better when I should have just been happy with what I already had.  That is the problem now days, there are to many mmo's and with my ADD I always want to try something out to see If I like it more.

Try PotBS. It is something different and lets you relax in WOW on a casual pace and they added PvP ship/skirmish scenarios. PotBS should have been released in the state it is in right now.

PotBS turns circles around ST. Certainly in the manufacturing department.

Played WoW for 5 years, the thought of returning, foe Cata or otherwise, makes me get a sick feeling in my stomach.  Don't get me wrong, I think it is a great game, but... I have played it too much.

FFXI was the same way for me, WoW couldn't really hold my attention.

I love WoW too and I don't think there's going to be a time when I give it up completely for the forseeable future at least.

But... I love a bit of variety too, and you can get a good taste for a game in a trial version or the open Beta to get a feel for whether it's enjoyable enough to be played alongside WoW at times, or whether it's not.

WoW has it's strong points and it's weak points, I actually enjoyed PvP more in WAR than in WoW but I really, really hated the PvE in WAR, which led to me leaving the game behind - though I think one day it will follow DDO and go free to play and then I'll go back for the PvP.

DDO was fun back in the day, but WoW puts it to shame in most respects but as a F2P there's a definite second lease of life to it, though unfortunately it won't run under Vista on my gaming laptop so it's not getting as much play as I'd like.

I enjoyed Aion too, though not enough to keep subscribing forever.

STO's beta was a bust for me and I was hoping for much more, but it was a few days free gaming that was mildly entertaining.

But then, I'm not looking for a WoW killer, there's nothing to stop me from enjoying another game or games AND WoW.

He makes a good point, there's so many wow like games that i just ask myself, why not just play wow when it has more content than this anyways? and then i end up re-subbing.

  • DonY81DonY81 Member UncommonPosts: 398

Its a bit of a pain really WoW tbh. I find myself resubbing quite a bit. Just something i miss about it, who knows. As well as that i havent had the same bug to play another game really. Ive tried a few Aion, AoC, Fallen Earth, Warhammer and im currently dabbling with Mortal Online. Just nothing grabs me.

Ill probably resub once again when Cata comes out.

    *Cough* Except Guild Wars

"COMMANDER, WE'VE DETECTED INCOMING TROLLS IN THE PORT SIDE!" Uh oh. But yeah, it's true. Guild Wars has always been the non-mainstream rival of World of Warcraft, and it does it in its own original way.

I forgot to put Guild Wars on here too.  GW is my play when WoW server is down.  But GW does not even come close to content and gameplay of WoW.  Too many instances. Blech!!

And the instances in GW are used to load all scenery and graphics: The lazy quick route.

Add to the instances, the dreadful autofacing and the sticking to the ground feature and you wonder why people would even call it a PvP game.

Swinging your axe in empty space while your enemy already jumped behind you to dodge the attacks and negate your parry rating.

Impossible to emulate in autofacing. But it will all be corrected in GW2 of course. Of course.

You should probably learn about a game before you make baseless assertions and instead just mindlessly bash it.

I know what you're saying. It's a very hard game to stay away from...

WoW is fun. Yes, it is. Compared to other MMO's it's smooth and polished...

I personally think I am leveling up too quickly though... I've been playing for 2 weeks, for about... 1.5 hours a night call it (technically not correct, about 3 hours in one night, but I don't play every night. usually every other night)... and I'm already a level 33 Paladin. Tbh, with the max level being 80, soon to be 85, being my level in such a short space of time is strange to say the least. I'm used to actually working at a character, working to get it better and higher levels.

Anyway... just my opinion... I'll take to a mage next, see how long they take to level.

And yes, this is my first time playing WoW... just not my first MMO obviously.

That's actually a loooooooooong time to level. If you want to work to make your character better just rush to 80, that's when the real game started for me.

Not really, especially since I'm not trying to power level through it. I'm taking it slow, trying to actually learn how to play my class properly... It is way too quick in my opinion... I'm doing some basic quests, not even grinding... unless the quests require it, IE collect some ribs from teh boars lol.

anyway, it might be long in your opinion, for WoW alone or just in general, but that is quick imo. WoW isn't the hardest game in the world... you can say that much...

Played WoW until about a year ago, then realized that the only thing I still enjoy there are raids, and those were really time consuming and got repetetive pretty quickly as well. I know most of the rest of the game so there was nothing really to explore and I was online mostly for a habit. Then I canceled my sub and didn't regret it yet.

WoW might be smooth and polished and everything. But it's been there for so long... I prefer to pay attention to something not as shiny if there is something new to explore.

Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)

Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)

WoW is the king for a reason. It is sure smooth. Funny how some major games like WAR have issues with the baseline functionality.

Anyway, if you want to see smooth, forget the western P2P failures. Go Korean or go some F2P WoW clone like RoM or now Allods. They are not WoW but they tend to be run smoother than the big names. Sad, really.

I like WoW, I really do, but playing today WoW is like re-watching SW episode 1 or so - the original was so much better experience despite all the technical inovations. Sadly, most of the "artistic" degradation can be ascribed to creators conforming to audience demands.
