A very bad game(IMO)

bigbenzbigbenz Member Posts: 82

Main problems with the game.

1) Customer support.. Very bad. I got a "working as intended" answer ,the only answer i got from them. My guild and i must have put in 100 tickets. One responce. You dont get quset items and just about every mission is bugged to hell.

2) Controls. You cant move up and down. no rolls . Movement is worthless spending half your time trying to get control of the camera. Very bad. Also fed ships turn like buses. Very slow.

3) no crafting.. nuff said.

4) very unbalanced. Very very very very unbalanced. ( ok klingons say " we are just that good" all you want the game is very unbalanced. I played just as long as everyone else. the game is unbalanced.

5) Credit farmers. all over spaming spaming spaming camping camping. I think cryptic runs the farmers. they run around so freely.

6) Skills. You will spend 20 million hours trying to tell what the damn skills do. Feels like the game script was written by a 2 year old. Very hard to understand.

7) lag city. Seems like every time i log on to play the server is down.

8) ground combat. Its a joke. Its worse then NGE, that bad.

9) People playing the game. Lots of people trying to ruin your time. Theres a million little bugs in the game people use to ruin your time. Crypic dont care.

10) Not star trek feeling at all. the game is stiff and bugged. Just a bad game.

I have had only one bugged reward from a mission in my whole time playing.  I also have had maybe five bugged missions since playing.  So, I don't know what you are doing to get so many bugged missions.  I can, however, guarantee that "every mission" is not "bugged to hell."

    2) Controls. You cant move up and down. no rolls . Movement is worthless spending half your time trying to get control of the camera. Very bad. Also fed ships turn like buses. Very slow.
Yes, the no pure vertical is a little bit troubling.  However, I can't recall an episode of Star Trek that had a Starfleet vessel doing barrel rolls.  Also, the "fed ships turn like buses" is false.  You must be using the Cruiser... which does turn like a bus.  It is designed to do that as it is a bigger ship with more inertia attached to it.  However, the Escorts and science vessels move and turn much faster than Cruisers.

    3) no crafting.. nuff said.
I agree with this somewhat.  The crafting was an afterthought.  However, improvement can be made with this system.

    4) very unbalanced. Very very very very unbalanced. ( ok klingons say " we are just that good" all you want the game is very unbalanced. I played just as long as everyone else. the game is unbalanced.
You keep saying "unbalanced" but do not give an example.  This leads me to believe that you are one of the typical individuals that get owned by another player and then go around stating that that player's class is "unbalanced".  But, that's just what I'm getting from this statement as you give me nothing to base your claim of unbalancedness.

    5) Credit farmers. all over spaming spaming spaming camping camping. I think cryptic runs the farmers. they run around so freely.
Yeah... you just described the problem with EVERY new (and pretty much successful existing) MMORPGs.  First:  You have no clue who is a "credit farmer" as you cannot see them credit farming due to instances (It's the WoW syndrome there).  Second:  It's not too hard to right click on their name and select "Report Spam" option.  Then you won't have to hear from their account ever again.

    6) Skills. You will spend 20 million hours trying to tell what the damn skills do. Feels like the game script was written by a 2 year old. Very hard to understand.
Actually, skill descriptions do need a bit of work.  But, they describe exactly what abilities they affect.  Thus, they aren't anywhere near as bad as you are attempting to describe them.

    7) lag city. Seems like every time i log on to play the server is down.
Agree.  But, STO isn't the only game to have lag.

    8) ground combat. Its a joke. Its worse then NGE, that bad.
I totally disagree here.  Ground combat does need work.  However, it still functions and is enjoyable for many.

    9) People playing the game. Lots of people trying to ruin your time. Theres a million little bugs in the game people use to ruin your time. Crypic dont care.
Yay for exaggerating numbers!  "million little bugs"...
First:        Bugs aren't new to MMORPG's.  If you can't accept bugs... well, MMORPG's aren't for you.

Second:  The game has only been out for less than two weeks.  Bugs are still around.

Third:       I highly doubt you counted out a million bugs.  I have noticeably experienced around ten since the game  officially launched.

    10) Not star trek feeling at all. the game is stiff and bugged. Just a bad game.
Specious argument here.  The game feels like Star Trek to me and many others.  No it isn't a "bad game" despite you stating it is so.  And, bugs are commonplace in ALL MMORPGs.

ill respond to the poins as posted

1- dunno, i just asked other players and got either a- its not working atm or b- theres a work around, here it is

2- disagree with the movement, honestly who cares if you can move stright up or down, 110% agree about camera, huge problem imho

3- agreed, allthough if the system they do have had a progress bar (which really function essentially like any other mmo crafting system, just not interesting) it would give me something to do while i wait for content

4- agreed, only time i saw klingons not have an advantage is when the fed side was all on vent and the klingon side obviously was not.

5-a mail filter would fix this imho, same as any other mmo so no point in sayiny its a sto issue when its an mmo issue (again imho)

6- agreed (allthough calling the writer a 2 year old isnt neccasary even if its accurate)

7- issue with every just out of beta mmo ive played, not a sto issue thats an industry wide issue, so not worth mentioning

8- never played nge, but yeah ground combat is bad and needs work (having said that it could be allright with said work being done), wish i could have figured out how to do only space missions

9- disagree, found most people helpful, at least those who had an idea as to how to solve the problems you were having.

10- disagree, dont know how you could make and mmo "more star trek" given the limitations of an mmo. short of investing millions upon miilions on developement.(id love to see it, but ummmm, dont think its happening)

i wont go as far as to say sto is a bad game, i will say it needs a lot of work. but what newely released mmo doesnt? personally i plan on revisiting the game after a gew months to see what they have sorted out.

1a) Wont argue that. sadly this is true of most mmorpgs. Considering the game just came out, I am sure they have lots of tickets to deal with. I have submitted my fair share of tickets on things not working properly myself.

    2) Controls. You cant move up and down. no rolls . Movement is worthless spending half your time trying to get control of the camera. Very bad. Also fed ships turn like buses. Very slow.
2a) While I agree you cant go straight up and down, they have made it about 75-80% in both directions so its not to bad. Really only annoying on a few missions where you zone in and everything is either straight down or up. not many of those though. Oh for the camera part. Its an easy fix. Go into options and turn off the follow target for the camera and you wont battle the camera anymore.

    3) no crafting.. nuff said.
3a) Thank god! Now I don't have to deal with crafters trying to milk me for every cent I got.

    4) very unbalanced. Very very very very unbalanced. ( ok klingons say " we are just that good" all you want the game is very unbalanced. I played just as long as everyone else. the game is unbalanced.
4a) Unbalanced how? PVP? Who cares. If your talking about PVE, then your just flat out wrong.

    5) Credit farmers. all over spaming spaming spaming camping camping. I think cryptic runs the farmers. they run around so freely.
5a) LOL OMG. You never played Aion did you? Frankly the amount of spamming in this game could be considered almost zilch compared to that game.

    6) Skills. You will spend 20 million hours trying to tell what the damn skills do. Feels like the game script was written by a 2 year old. Very hard to understand.
6a) So what your saying is, they aren't hand feeding you everything about your powers? MOST of the skills are pretty self evident. Granted some are worded kinda weird but its not really that bad.

    7) lag city. Seems like every time i log on to play the server is down.
7a) With the exceptions of their planned outtages, I only know of 3 times that the game went down, since it went live. Not really that bad if you ask me. And they even reported that the problems they were having was due to the new hardware they got in, so it will get even better once they get that corrected.

    8) ground combat. Its a joke. Its worse then NGE, that bad.

8a) I love the ground combat. It is certainly not worse than the NGE. NOT even close. But you are right in they still have more to do on it to make it better.

    9) People playing the game. Lots of people trying to ruin your time. Theres a million little bugs in the game people use to ruin your time. Crypic dont care.
9a) Now I know your just flat out trying to bash the game here.  From what I have seen, the community has been pretty darn helpful. But then again, when you see questions that are so blatant, in that people dont even try to figure stuff out, they just ask the same questions over and over again. You know how many times I saw on the first day, where is the SS Azure? My god, its right on the map. Heck, you dont even need the map, if you just look in front of you, its right there. Its having to answer those questions 500 times a day that gets people a little riled up.  As for the bugs, yep there are a lot of them but none of them are game breaking.

    10) Not star trek feeling at all. the game is stiff and bugged. Just a bad game.

10a) I will disagree with this. I personally feel it captures star trek pretty darn good. Every time I am on an away mission, I feel just like I do when I watch the tv shows. I really enjoy the star trek experience it offers so far. As far you thinking its a bad game, your more than welcome to your opinion. I disagree, but sorry you didn't like it.

ummm, that doesnt solve the problem. either your camera points at the target or the last direction you had it pointed in, neither of which puts it in the direction your ship is facing, which is the issue. sorry i didnt make that clear. when flying a ship with very limited arc of fire i find it annoying not being able to set my camera to face the way my ship is going, in fact i would consider it kind of a fundamental flaw  for a shooting game.

as you have to "purchase" the skills with points that you earned, cannot refund them (respec) currently and can not earn enough points to get them all, a better description isnt much to ask for, doesnt involve a lot of work on cryptics part and considering you can only make 3 toons with a normal account, does that mean i play the game 6 times to max lvl erasing my last toon to figure out what the different skills do before i make the toon i wanted in the first place? if this is what is being passed off as "content" ill pass then. playing a game over and over to learn basic info that should have been there in the first place is not enjoyable from my perspective, but you are correct that some skills are self explainitory.

    7) lag city. Seems like every time i log on to play the server is down.

well im just going to say that my experience was much closer to the original posters than yours. i played.... well too much really, and experienced more then 3 server crashes on most days that i played, of course i admit i was in the early start, but most of that time was post "going live". id guess i was just on a lot more though

Wierd. I have not had a problem with the camera. I guess I have just played enough MMO's to know how they work and am used to moving it the way I need it.

Most of them are self evident. Seriously, there aren't that many that you have to think about what they do. As for respecs, I am sure they will have them in there soon.

You must be remembering head start. Because post actual launch date, the servers have only had 3 crashes that I know of and those came all in one day basically. I have spent a good amount of time in the game myself, but I admit I am not on 24/7. But the forums are usually a pretty good indicator and I haven't seen much of anything outside of those crashes to show they were having any downtime outside of regular maint. Now I will admit there has been a fair amount of rubber banding since the EU launch. And I have found certain zones to be extremely laggy (rubber banding) since that launch but overall, most of the zones seem to work fine for me. I rarely have any lag inside of any of the missions that I do.

    1. No comment as I have had no contact with them or need to, besides wondering why the servers crash so much.

    2. Yes I agree. It is terrible to have someone flying under you but you not being able to face them but rather having to "corkscrew" your way down. I have no idea why vertical movement is so restricted, even submarine games allow for full vertical movement, even CO does. As for rolls and stuff, I dont really need that.

    3. Yes, no crafting makes the combat focus of this game even more evident. Also this is Star Trek, the inspiration of many RL inventions (like the cellular phone). Yet here you cannot craft your own items? So un-Star Trek of them.

    4. Unbalanced? Not sure what you mean, PvP combats is mostly zerg fests so I havent noticed any imbalances. Focus fire and shoot, all ships can do that. The only thing I can sense is imbalancing is cloaking but Feds can easily counter that by moving in packs.

    5. Yes annoying with credit farmers, specially in a game where credits arent really worth that much.

    6. Yeah, deflector, emitter, sensor, etc skills need to explain what excactly they do. Some skills are crystal clear though.

    7. Yes, server stability is bad. Dont think there has been one week end day without atleast on crash.

    8. Yes. Ground combat is simplistic and boring. I just avoid doing them.

    9. Dont understand what you mean here. The game has about average amount of bugs for a new game, maybe a little more.

    10. 100% agree. Game does not feel like Star Trek at all. Where is the exploration of new worlds and civilizations and go where noone has gone before? Where are you gonna go? The world is tiny and so you can bet that alot of people has already gone and did that one week after release. And even if you look at it from a single player perspective the smallness of the world is so evident and the instances so constricting.
