    Beta might be US only.

  • etruscanetruscan Member Posts: 130

Well I already had an NCsoft account, but there's nothing on my Manage Account page that allows me to sign up for the beta. What gives?

Someone should ask them on their forums. If they start a NA beta test only in the US, they're going to lose some credibility from some canadian players.

Well, Pann is likely to drop by here eventually. Either this was an oversight when setting up the signup on the website, or we Canadians (er, non-Americans) are just not invited. The latter would suck, so I truly hope it's just an oversight. In that case, I hope it's fixed - soon.

Well, one case would be you aren't 18, that was the case with me. It kind of dawned on me when I realized this was a beta test. No worries, said you can just get a Parent/Guardian to do it for you, so I did. Curse me and my 5 months away from being 18... Then I don't have to worry about the NDA restricting me.

And if you think I'm lying, directly from the TOS:

By accepting the terms of use in the Agreement, Members represent that
you are an adult 18 years of age or older. Only one person may use an
Account. The registered user of an Account may use the Account or may
choose instead to permit a minor child of the registered user to use
the Account. You are liable for all activities conducted through your
Account, and parents or guardians are liable for all activities of
their minor child conducted through the Account.

It would suck if you absolutely have to be 18 to run for a spot. I mean, one cannot guess a person's age by his maturity level. I have seen "mature", 30+ years old people behaving like real kids in a D&D session. If it wasn't for my karma, I would have tied them on their chair and made them eat the paper balls they kept throwing at people.

Back on a more serious note, I think they should allow you in if you have your parent/guardian autorisation. Age is not a sure factor anymore. We could start a debate on that but I don't think an Auto Assault board is a good place to do so.

I think it has more to do with not being able to enter into a legally binding contract as minor than anything else. I signed up for the bets *woot*, I sure hope I get in, this game looks sweet.

I agree with you but if someone feels responsible enough to engage in a contract to test a game, I think they should have the right, especially when they're 18 minus 5 or less months. Oh well... What keeps you from...like...tweaking your birth date?

Yea, the thing with that is a lot of companies just have an Online NDA that you click to agree, some companies that I know of (ArenaNet for Guild Wars made you fax a signed NDA with proof of age for joining their alpha/permanent beta test) do regular NDAs, but I see a lot of companies just go by assumption. To me that really doesn't make sense, because half the people who end up doing that will be underage anyway. I mean at least I made someone else older than 18 do it for me (unfortunately...), where as many others wouldn't. So I don't really know what I'm trying to say, I guess maybe be more lenient on terms of who can sign the NDA, like maybe just let a Parent or Guardian give consent (in the form of a signature) then you can play. So the parent/Guardian would be responsible. Just my opinion though...

Well, I'm well over 18 and and I'm still getting nothin. So, I assume it has more to do with me being outside the US than anything else.

Looks like we'll have to wait until something comes up about that. I'll check again later to see if it's okay for us to suscribe. If it's still US-exclusive by the time I wake up, I'll just return to my NWN habbits with the sore feeling of having hoped that I could have tried an original MMORPG. I think I'll survive thought.

I honestly can't see why they would restrict the beta to the US market, but stranger things have happened, so we'll just have to wait for Pann to drop in and give us the lowdown.

Lol, actually, the company who made it is based in Korea. NcSoft.

NCSoft may be based in Korea, but 90% of their staff and equipment is in Austin, TX.  This is the reason for the current US only part I would imagine.  Give the guys a break.  I'm sure they'll open it up to more countries down the pipe.  This is the initial Beta.

It's official now, it's for the US for the moment. They want to focus on latency in this region first. They updated their website.

    We'll have to wait.

Incidentally, has anyone who DID sign up received any sort of confirmation e-mail?  I signed up less than an hour after it went live, and so far I've heard nothing.

Why am I not surprised? As usual the country where you live is VERY important for such events. ...

*caughs with bitterness* I guess Europe is always the last place for MMORPGS.
