Easily an 8/10 imo and should continue to get better in 2010 with future free content patches

Alfar is neutral to all races i heard this way :)

i will buy df soon btw see u in game

This is incorrect, there are 3 factions,

    Ork/Mahirim

    Human/Elf/Dwarf

    Alfar

Alfars are red to everyone, that means they're not neutral but hostile to all other players. All races outside of your faction will be red unless in your clan/alliance.

    Interesting.

    I didn't now that.

Remember everyone, don't take this is as written in stone. I myself play as Alfar and i play with orcs/humans/mahrim all day. The only thing the faction system really does in this game, is allow you to enter other races NPC cities as well as the freedom of killing other factions without penalty.

Edit: Oh and to be on topic. I personally rate this game as a 9. It has everything i want more or less with some features that COULD be added, but would just enhance the experience. Though I don't see the big deal with adding sound effects, because people like me are just going to slide the little ambiance slider (if we havn't already) to 0 and hunt you down with an advantage of not having stupid virtual birds obscuring my hearing.

    8/10

PVP is incredible and trust me I am not any good at it.

AI is the best out there imo. The crafting is very basic and not very imaginative.

Environment needs to be added. I ran for an hour as a newbie from one side of the continent to the other and only saw 2 deer. I am not saying to make it overpopulated with the extras but there needs to be balance. New patch should make up for this.

  • ste2000ste2000 Member EpicPosts: 6,194

For me at launch it was a 6 (for me wasn't a disaster at all)

But after 1 year they haven't improved by much, so now I give it a 7.

The PvP and Sieges are great.

It needs more Sandbox elements (in particular the economy system) and more fluff (sounds, more NPCs and Animals)

I believe DF got all the Shadowbane elements right.

Now it needs to get the UO elements right as well in order to get a 9-10.

I haven't played it,so I don't want to mess up the poll. Anyone care to share what the voting is so far?

Well to really rate it, I'd have to play it. But since I can't, I'll just have to go from what I read. And according to that I give it a 5. There are a few things I like about what I read and many things I don't like.

Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)

Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)

They should really ad a "Show results" option since people screw it up just to check out the poll

  • jrs77jrs77 Member Posts: 419

I've rated it at "1- worst" as AV hasn't manged to offer any payment-options I can use to pay for the game so far.

AV should rethink their payment-options and offer GameTimeCards or PayByCash, etc... anything atleast, that doesn't require a credit card.

Note: I live in Finland and PayPal doesn't work, as the option to link it to your bank-account is not offered here. Additional, there's no prepaid credit cards, like gift-cards or E-cards available. And VISA Electron is also rejected, as the finnish banks restrict the use of them to Finland.

The Darkfall-forums are full of complaints from people, who can't pay for the game because of the lacking options.

    Way to go AV.

Wau.. your countrys banking system is based on paranoia and don't give easy credit, thats a good thing on one side.

Hope they will add more option..

I have recently gone back to see whats up and I was fairly happy. Went from a 4/10 score to a 6 or 7. Thats not half bad its almost what they said it was at launch :)

I've played for the past 2 months and give DF a 6, for concept and effort of a small company.  2 months and I'm done with it.

Finland learnt it's lesson 15-20 years back allready -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finnish_banking_crisis_of_1990s

And in the current crisis, the finnish banks were not that much affected like the rest of the world. What a surprise...

I gave it a 9 because to me it is the best MMO going right now.  There are definitely areas that could be improved, but the game is making great progress and honestly, it is the only MMO i have been able to play for more than a few weeks before being like "WTF, this is pointless"

  • Cik_AsalinCik_Asalin Member Posts: 3,033

Overall I give it between a 7 and an 8. Though I aint playing right now, it is one of the better sandboxy games on the market that should be experienced.  Perhaps it would be more solidly an 8 if I could personalize my game-play experience more with a personal home that wasnt by chance to find, where the playerbase could develop more free-to-operate in commercial cities rather than they being run by npc's, and the game-world wasn't so combat and territory control oriented.  I dont know, but there is somethings missing for me.

  • KruulKruul Member UncommonPosts: 482

I gave it a high score because its the most entertaining MMO out atm. I'm amused at how many people voted that havent even played it ..... /scratches head

  • SeytanSeytan Member Posts: 653

I gave it a 3. The game has some major issues that will keep it from becoming mainstream. Ive pointed those issues out in other threads so I wont rehash here. Further, there hasnt been a game made yet that had me so invested for better or worse I was willing to play it indefinately.

DFO also falls under this unbrella. At any rate im in for a few more months and it will be interesting to see what transpires. Will I resub as it is? Heck no.

I gave it a 6/10 for the following reasons:

    PROS:

    - FPS style combat that keeps you on your toes.

    - Advanced monster AI.

    - Open world FFA PvP.

    - Full loot.

    - Territorial conquest.

    - Player housing.

    - Decent crafting system.

    CONS:

    - Takes WAY too long to reach a level truly competitive with veterans (literally 6 months to year of hardcore grinding or about 3 months of 24/7 play). Most new players quit long before reaching that point. Cannot be played casually with any level of success.

    - Constant ganking of new players by older ones with absolutely no consequences or risk.

    - Easily exploitable faction system which allows instant war against players in town.

    - Easy to hack.

    - Incredible grind encourages nearly everyone to macro (which is illegal and bannable but everyone does anyway).

    - PVE is very lacking. The same handful of monster spawns are spread around most of the map. Dungeons are very poorly done and few and far between.

    - Not enough non-PVP sandbox content.

    - UI is extremely frustrating and badly designed.

    - Graphics and sound are sub-par for today's games.

If you'd only be entitled to have an opinion about something you bought, oh boy we'd be in deep trouble. :)

Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)

Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)

Cannot be played casually with any level of success. Used to be the case. things are MUCH faster now. I played at release.....and I play now. I can grind out in 3 days what used to take weeks.
    - Constant ganking of new players by older ones with absolutely no consequences or risk. Again, this is simply not the case anymore. At release I would get in a PVP battle at the goblin spawns (or flat-out rolled) an average of six times per day. Now you can literally go days without seeing a red near a starter town. Plus, there are people and clans who take it upon themselves to hunt reds and protect n00bs.
    - Easily exploitable faction system which allows instant war against players in town. Yeah, this is bullshit and needs to be fixed. Not as bad as it used to be in the days of "Gank And Bank" and others of their ilk, but still a problem.
    - Easy to hack. True at launch, but once again not anymore. Hackers are wtfbanned FAST these days. As I've mentioned, even afk swimming can get you a 3-day ban.
    - Incredible grind encourages nearly everyone to macro (which is illegal and bannable but everyone does anyway). Macroing is pointless now, since the skill gain improvements given to PVE. Why waste time (and regs) bloodwalling or otherwise macroing a magic school when you can get 6x the gain from hunting mobs??
    - PVE is very lacking. The same handful of monster spawns are spread around most of the map. Dungeons are very poorly done and few and far between. This one REALLY confuses me. Yeah, dungeons could peolly use some work (I never go to them, so wouldn't really know) but mobs spawns are freakin' EVERYWHERE. It's actually gotten kind of annoying, especially when trying to ride somewhere....constantly getting shot at by elementals, gnolls, kobolds, trolls, raven standards, minotaurs, wild tribes, etc.....plus getting strafed by dragons.
    - Not enough non-PVP sandbox content. Not sure what you're looking for here?? Crafting? Player housing? City Building? Ship building? Gathering?? All included.
    - UI is extremely frustrating and badly designed. Meh, it's not the best, but I can live with it. The chat system is what drives me NUTS.
    - Graphics and sound are sub-par for today's games. You have to make sacrifices in a game designed for the kind of massive battles that occur daily in Darkfall, in a non-instanced world. I really can't complain about graphics myself....and most people turn the shit down to minimum anyway for better performance in battles.

Sounds like you're basing your opinion on the game as it was a few months ago. Things have changed.

The game's got issues, I won't argue that. But....what MMORPG doesn't?? IMO, the positives, and the fun...far out-weigh the negatives at this point.

I was skeptical at launch...din't think this game would ever shape up like this. Hell, I used to skoff at this game...said it was vapor-ware, that they'd never pull it off.

AV has really surprised me....and I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, and my money.

I agree!  You have to enjoy the little things :)  I love grinding in this game.  It's always fresh and it is always fun to explore.  The pro definately outway the cons and I hope more people realize that by trying it.  My name is Scarred angel ingame so hit me up!
