This has about as much to do with MMO's as The Real World has to do with Music Television. Let's stick to reporting things that actually have to do with Massively Multiplayer Online Gaming, and stay away from how we can use twitter to make friends during online sessions of Texas Hold Em.
And you don't think there would be any interest in a somewhat iconic figure in mmo games? Besides, who knows if he has plans to expand their offerings.

I'm afraid this company won't be very popular for us MMO gamers. Especially if they plan to release Facebook games....
That's not entirely true... I took a peek at the available jobs, and looking at it I can only conclude he'll make both web applications as well as stand-alone clients.
Anyway, if Garriott will put his focus on any social network, I'm sure I'll miss it. I loathe these so called social networks for the privacy they take from you (you really can put all there you like) and the benefits they give you, other than staying in touch with virtual friends - you know the ones you'll most likely never meet face2face because they live on the other side of the world...
I would be very surprised to see anything come of this. The man has completely lost his touch when it comes to games. Of course he could get lucky and hire some visionary young kids, but beyond that anything that comes from him will be pretty marginal at best.
Who is this want to be dev. I don't remember him creating eq eq2 or anthing of the sort. The only thing i heard of him was tabula rasa and that was a shame of a game.
Im sorry but social network sites, go to farmville yea right lol.

He has lost touch irl too. Have u seen him? Bald with a pony tail. Anyone willing to invest money on him after what he did in NCSoft must be retarded.
No, you fail for not being able to read and comprehend what I wrote.
Here, let me make it more "clear" for you: "I'm afraid this company won't be very popular for us MMO gamers" as in, WE who play MMOs on a daily basis such as WoW, Aion, DarkFall, etc. In other words, the information about Richard Garriott and his company has little to no impact for us.
Yes you can make money from Facebook games, but my point was that this is close to irrelevant to the MMORPG industry.
Garriot making Facebook apps? nice...that is like Albert Einstein working in a paper clip factory I guess the money was good....
Einstein was a clerk in a patent office because he couldn't find a job teaching. The special theory of relativity was inpired by his work there. You never know where fresh ideas will come from and Garriot could certainly use some.
True but unless the large hadron collidor finds the Higs some of what Einstien did may be proven redundant .Unless the speacial theory of relativity can work on a microscopic scale as well as a massive one then it could well be wrong .

I know what your saying, but look at top selling online games, almost always there is some version of the simms in there, lots and lots of people play online games not everyone plays wow, eq, or lotro type games, these compaines wish they could tap that market more than what they do. As an mmo player I would not have intrest in those, social based games...like farmville..LOL
Interesting, but for the next game, you might want to wait at least one year before playing seeing how Tabula Rasa was completely stopped.
from what i read, the company made him completely change the game he wanted it to be about 6-12 months into production.
Yeah he is so the victim. Lets not forget the 100$ mill bill he requested to make TR for 6-7 years. Seeing the final product wasnt 100$ mill worth it. If u want a dev team that is committed and working their ass off look at Darkfall. It was created for less money and has so much more to offer than RG bald headed fail pony tail could create.
Richard Garriot is a kind of genius. It's sad that he sold Origins to EA as he was in the way to create Ultima X, in 3D.
He worked in COX and it was good. Tabula Rasa was a good game. I was about to sub when NCwest announced shut down. This man know where the money is. More of my friends play social network games than MMO's.
Anyways, Richard Garriot has still not said his last word into the MMO genre.
Oiy... People need to get over themselves and learn to understand facts. Richard Garriott didn't ruin Tabula Rasa. NCSoft did. They forced changes very late in the development and that caused major problems. Also, why hate a man that failed at making a game after he succeeded many times before? I also wonder how many people hate Richard Garriott and played CO, said it sucked and bought STO? Or disliked EQ and bought EQ2? Or thought DaoC wasnt great and bought WAR? I doubt most of the MMO gamers are interested in what he is doing now since its social media and browser based.
Sorry but the "facts" state something different.
Richard put his name on Tabula Rasa, then pretty much abandoned the game. He seemed more concerned with going into space than continued development on a game with his name on it. Then after he goes to outer space, he pretty much just quits and leaves demanding money from NCSoft for "his" game's share. He did interviews and such about "Richard Garriott's Tabula Rasa" before launch often but then afterwords he was no where to be seen.
He sold Origin to EA. As a result there have been no Ultima games released since and 4 years since the last UO expansion. Basically, he took the money and ran.
If he had stayed with Origin, I have no doubt we'd have a single player Ultima game on a 360/ps3 now as well as more expansions for the UO players out there. If he had stayed with NCSoft instead of chasing a childhood fantasy, Tabula Rasa would still be up and running with his guidance.
To answer your other questions, since CO sucked I did not buy STO. I liked DAoC, but didn't care for the WAR trial so left.
Another turning towards the social gaming apsect of mmos. I'm sure down the road we will see big companies like Blizzard and NCsoft turn their attention this way as well.

I have a very hard time believing this is true, and would like to see some concrete facts from you that prove this is more than just speculation.
Where were you, under a rock?
Screw Garriott.

Hm, can't he just make single player RPGs again? I loved Ultima, but how many MORE MMOs do we really need?
People don't ask questions to get answers - they ask questions to show how smart they are. - Dogbert
The fact that he will be making social network type games makes it that much easier to ignore him.
Heck...
I found TR more fun than most of the current mmos.... I only played for few weeks, but boy was all of the campaigns and fort battles etc. fun.

It is a question of fangs.
WoW, now even Garriot is copying people. He pulled a Koster!
