They'll go up at first, but once people realize its the same game in a new skin, they'll drift off at higher rates than ever before.

And Blizz will stop quoting sub numbers again.

(and actually, no , I don't believe that CEO gave an accurate count, he was spouting off something he read a year or so back.)

As the 1 to 60 lvl content will be completely new to everyone - even for the basic WOW box and new players - I forsee a big boost in subs.
The absence of decent alternatives in 2010 makes for a rather predictable statement.
    Present day subs = 11.5 M
Return of China officially = X M extra the moment Wotlk hits there
Relaunch of basic (improved) Azeroth = X M extra (old / new)
Wow in its new form (both in landscape and class designs) could be in a position of having 13 to 14 million subsriptions by years end.
The reason is clear and simple: lack of decent alternatives within the same kind of playing options offered by a renewed WOW.
It's the first time an MMORPG maker will not use the #2 tag upon a follow up game, it will be interesting to see the end results.

So you say that most of the mmos player base plays WoW. Thats true. So blizzard will raise the amount you need to pay monthly. That makes sense too. It's free market economy, more demand, price raises. In fact i dont understand why blizzard did not make this sooner. But as someone pointed you already the 11.5 m of players were already counting the china players. In fact most of it is from china. My guess is around 2 or 4 m players in the west.

With the relaunch, yeah, it will probably be a raise on wow players, I can't guess how many, but i think they will be probably a lot.

blizzard(wow doesnt catter to the same crowd of player now a days those thaat were in vanilla are almost all gone

the new player ditn see all there was in wow ,so i bet those dont miss much in their own mind(you dont miss what you havent experienced!there will be way more player because it will be a new game even for experienced player in wow

and if you hurry very fast the end game ,you ll get hard dungeon !whats annoying is that if you wait a month

all those dungeon will be dumbed down .but this game will be popular when cataclysm lunch no doubt about it

(in america at least)outside of america?i dont believe it will bring in the numbers they hope!in china they have to remove so much stuff and replace it with bags and box etc

most will just side step wow.for the rest of the world of mmorpg it will probably be PEM ,or tera,or aion  or other title that will be played by million(i got my money on PEM.date asnt been annouced yet but they are doing beta in china  netbars so it means

they will probably aim their launch exactly the same time as cataclysm.this would be a major blow to wow because PEM

as all the tooll needed to outshine wow in asia !probably wont in america since here its mostly buy american everything else is crap (mentality .ya stupid i know ! but thats how its going!)

Interesting if of course full of total nonsense, an official release with a Chinese partner company for WoW does not equal "unbanning". There's a lot that is banned here of course, but WoW? Nuh uh. Goldfarming is now illegal here (or at least running large scale goldfarms...) but as 99% of farmed gold still comes from here someone must have failed to tell the locals... and not just about the law, but the ban too.

I've been playing WoW in China, for 3 months now, and was playing WoW here when I came out to get married 6 months before that... but I can't get Facebook? Funny eh?
