Considering Gamespot just got nailed for a shoddy job on the Global Agenda review, this one will be met with skepticism as well even though I agree with it.

Every experienced mmorpg gamer knows that you shouldn't review a game until 6 months after release.  Games are rarely perfect when they release and the 6 month window is the time devs have to fix bugs and implement unfinished combat.  I really won't give two craps about any review except that ones that come out after the game's been out for 6 months.

Sorry but those days are gone. In this day and age where gaming companies are allowed 6months or so before they add more content to fix blantant holes in thier game are gone. Gamers are tired of being fed the carrot on the stick oh wait it will get better.

The moment your game hits the shelves and we as consumers are expected to pay money for it is fair game for judgement by everyone. Now if you choose to wait with your money after 6months of release than fine then you can get your review then on your own until then everyone else who has paid for it can give their reviews as they please. FIrst impressions in this day and age are important.

And  I think your wrong cause I think every experienced MMORPG gamer out there is tired of companies releasing half finished products and getting away with it.

I dont agree with this at all.  You pay money for that game, you pay subscribtion for these first 6 months, why should we give them 6 months ?  NO.   I agree with the fact that MMO should be reviewed YEARLY but waiting 6 months for the first review is a hell NO.

Look at STO, they release the game way to early, pretty much everyone agree with that and it SHOWS in reviews.  Maybe in ONE year STO will score good but right now it deserve what it gets.

Ugh, this is exactly the attitude that causes companies to release half-finished, half-assed games. Money is tight for a lot of people these days and I'm glad we're getting these reviews letting us know if it's worth it.

This is why I don't trust reviews LOL.

"Hi Guys, This is Justin Calvert from GameSpot (justin@gamespot.com, not calvert@gamespot.com as was previously posted in this thread). After being contacted by Yentz, reviewing the evidence, and speaking with the reviewer, I've decided to pull our review of Global Agenda because it clearly doesn't meet the high standards that we hold our reviews to.

I'll be posting a reviews blog on GameSpot in the next hour or two to explain the situation to our readers, and I'd like to thank Yentz for bringing this to my attention.

The only thing I'd ask is that you all please stop sending us emails about this. The one from Yentz was all that I needed (and all that I've received, personally), but I understand that Ricardo (who is busy trying to report from an event) has received more.

On behalf of GameSpot, I'd like to apologize to Hi-Rez Studios. We'll work to get a replacement review of Global Agenda posted in the not too distant future."

Actually, I believe the 'lowish' review does STO more good than harm.

We all know its not a 9/10... it has some 9/10 moments... but overall its still a very young MMO.. needs some maturity and depth.

Having a lower review helps keep the hype-dissappointment down.   Veteran MMO's players are setup to expect it to and utter piece of garbage and when we actually download & play it.. we (at least I was) pleasantly surprised.

5.5/10 is a bit too low for this game, and while I find the reviewer's comments accurate & fair, the score is probably more about his personal disappointment (lots of ST fans out there) than being completely objective to other similar MMO titles.

6.5/10 (MMORPG.coms player-based rating) is probably more accurate.   Some veterans want more in-depth.. some don't.   Some players are brand new to MMO's and still learning and having fun in the process... others are cranky old-school players who are not impressed by anything anymore.

STO is a newborn.. still in diapers... and while it may never mature into some kind of MMO prodigy some players are hoping to see someday... its has some fundamentally 'fun factor' mechanics that you simply cannot dismiss, namely customization and the mixture of space + ground interaction.

Its a fun adventure with a few boring spots in between.   Sounds like a pretty average MMO experience if you ask me.   Nobody is going to convince me that mindless mineral-grindnig in 'secure' space is any less boring than clicking on 5 terminals in some abandoned Klingon listening post station.  At least STO devs where smart enough to mix it up from the start.

Right now, the game is a bit easy, no combat consequences, fun to customize, cool looking space battles, ground-base combat needs some tweaking (which is true for ALL MMO's).   All these will change, guaranteed, as long as there are players putting money into subscriptions and reviewers & player forum feedback helping the developers 'tweak' the product in the right direction.

Now, if you will excuse me... I have some Klingons & Orions I need to take care of... while I pet my tribble ;)

"The space combat is short-lived fun, but everything else about this online role-playing game is bland and shallow."

I'm SO glad I didn't bite on this one.

It happens with every release and then about 3 weeks later dies off. It's a strange mix of football-tribalism-hobbying. I presume collectors of stamps don't heckle collectors of buttons. I would presume model ship makers don't heckle model aeroplane makers.

Some of the complaints are genuine reasons, others are pure fantasy ~ "it's nothing like the shows".

All the bad reviews on sites and magazines. All the negative posts on the official forums, these forums and other forums.

Yes. It's all a HUGE conspiracy against poor innocent Cryptic.

It's amusing how you flame someone later in the thread for not reading, ironic.

Please highlight the sentence in which I stated that STO is a fantastic game worthy of a better score than it received? You just keep pushing the propaganda dude. Maybe some of the points I made stung a little, thing is I'm right. For every MMORPG released in the last 5 years you will find a forum full of people "hating" it.

It's nothing new, it doesn't make you, me or anyone more clever. I like apple juice, you like orange, or perhaps you just hate juice?

I agree fully. It's especially noticeable when compared to to universe the game is supposedly based on.

Most reviewers are trashing the game completely. The average score is generally between 5 to 6.5, not a success by any means. There are a few reviews out there skewing the results by giving the game an 8-8.5, but those are the vast minority.

Strategy Informer gave the game an 80.

But, Strategy Informer have been caught out before not only lying in reviews by also manipulating public scores.

(Years ago admittedly - but still - it shows that they did so it makes it hard to trust them)

I would bet they were paid for a high review. Did you see that they praised the klingon on faction. Think about it, they say the klingons are good, with having a smaller amount of space and only being able to do 4 pvp missions.

In regards to the Gamespot review, I bet you could replace "STO"  in the review with any other MMO title out today and the review would still work pretty well. In other words, there are no MMO's that I can think of that don't have the exact same shortcomings.

'Vast minority'.... lol such an apt turn of phrase in this situation (whats that overhead?).

Anyway I'm split on the review, for one I completely disagree with its final score and thoroughly enjoyed my time playing. On the other I hope all games that have a subscription and an item mall burn in a specially reserved little corner of hell.
