This week’s Community Spotlight focuses on the thread “Would you play a 100% PVE MMO, No PVP at all?” by user Aguitha. In the original post, Aguitha wonders how viable a fully PvE MMOG would be, and polls the community on whether or not they would play a fully PvE MMOG with no PvP offering whatsoever.

I think you can know that the answer is yes. The Everquest series is almost entirely without PvP except a few pvp servers. Even Everquest 2 on the non-pvp servers there are a ton of players.
Yes I would. If the game were fun to play. I will play any game regardless of style if it is well made, well designed, and enjoyabe. People get to hung up an categorizing MMO's.
Sure would, I played Everquest for a long time. Currently playing WoW and not touching the PvP
Also I think that MMO developers have forgotten how to make good PvP content for their games and the last game to do it correctly was DAoC
Yes, absolutely. Play LOTRO and dont do the MPvP, which is a mini-game anyway tbh.
I loved Vanguard when i was playing it so yes i would play a pve only game. Its more about community to me. I really really enjoyed the community in Vangaurd everyone was relaxed, patient, curtious, nice and mature. And when i played DF right after my time in Vanguard I hated the community so much i quit the game.
I very much enjoy testing my skills against other players, but there are so many people that need pvp to feel like they are superior and all hella bad ass then other gamers. Its such a farce that I cannot be part of it. I like people who know they are just playing a game for entertainment and that in no way is pwning some nubpies going to make their lives better.
Currently Playing: Fallen Earth
Played and liked: TCOS, Vanguard, Guild Wars, DDO
Played and didn't like: CO, MO, STO, DF, AoC, WAR, WoW, EQ2, EVE, most f2p
Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, Secret World
Yes. Dark Age Of Camelot was the only pvp/rvr I enjoyed.
Undoubtedly yes.
Even on MMOGs with PVP, I avoid PVP like the plague. I hate PVP, in all its forms.
I don't find it fun at all, and I find dealing with the tools that enjoy it (no offense, rare non-tool PVP people, but it's true) even less entertaining.
I'm a PVE gamer, through-and-through.
A game with only PvE and the right developers would probably be the best game in the world. So yes.
For me every game should have PvP, and i am a PvE player, but for example, in Guild Wars from time to time i fancied some competition, more team play and the posibility of showing the rest who good i was.
PvP is just another option, it´s nice to have it in case you want to play once or twice (And don´t forget about the PvPers)
(As I said in the original post)
I wouldn't even consider it really...
Been playing MMOs for a long time, and its always been (but not limited to) the PvP. I find PvE extremelly boring, and repetative, but thats just me.. I also enjoy all types of PvP, from RvR, to guild vs guild, to open PvP...
I would, in a heartbeat. I do not like PvP games at all (except DAoC, which is in a class by itself)
I agree with a few of the others in that I like having it as an option. I haven't stuck with any games that don't have any pvp and the same for FFA PVP. In many tries playing FFA PVP games including WOW on pvp servers I can't say that even one single time I had someone attack me that was even close to my level. My full experience in free for all pvp where you could attack anyone in the open world consisted of being trolled by much higher level players usually in the middle of a fight with mobs. Any more, those types of environments are as much of a niche market as fully pve games. Its definitely a fact that facing the unpredictability of a human player is a thrill that no company has come close to with NPC AI.
Oh most definately with a re-sounding YES! I much prefer PVE to PVP. I think that is the one thing I hated about Guild Wars. . . mostly PVP and even outside where you could only have 8 people was almost like PVP because there was no stragety or no running form a fight. . you HAVE to fight in GW. You can't run from a mob and that was the worst thing ever.
PVE. . .definately YES
No.
I'm not a wuss
I currently play LOTRO. I do not participate at all in their PvP, which has no effect on the PvE.
So, yes, I play for PvE and NOT PvP.
Absolutely. In fact, that's what I'm waiting for: an all PvE game.
I dont think I would play a fully PvE game...
Personally, I like going out PvEing, getting some good loot and testing it out against the competition....
With no pvp....there is no competition....and with no competition... there's not much point in playing an MMO
If you want a fully PvE game, go play Mass Effect 2 or Dragon Age. MMOs are about interacting and challenging yourself against other players...if you take that away then you take away what makes MMOs good....
PLAYER INTERACTION!!!
No point in paying $10-15 a month to battle some AI monsters. I can do that in single player games with no monthly fee..
This really depends. I think developers are stretching trying to make a game with perfect PvP and PvE elements. That being said I think that every PvP game should have PvE and every PvE game should have PvP. In the long run a PvE game with PvP will be more successful, and all things considered a better mix (In my opinion). I would play a PvE game without PvP no questions if it was good. Everquest was an outstanding game and so was Everquest II. Hell maybe they just need to make another Everquest, or CCP could get their ass working on a fantasy.
Everquest and Everquest 2 Veteran.
I would play it.
I mean...we are talking only PvE as in there is player competition, but not in the form of fighting, right? I've done that plenty of times and enjoyed it.
Check out the MUD I'm making!
Pretty generic question, as the OP is referring to any online game:
Sure, can be any type of MMO, as long as the story line is in depth, runs semi-parallel to the other aspects of the game, is challenging as well as scalable.
=== Feel the Power of Purr ===
=^^=
Yes I would. I never PvPed much, most games are too much item dependant (meaning countless hours of farming), alway prefered the PvE side.
Some people say PvE has no players interaction, wtf ? Group PvE can be fun, solo PvE may get boring.
I like PvE in general, but I don't like the general combat mechanics: target (or face or w/e) a enemy, hit 1 to throw stuff, hit 2 to throw another stuff, loot, rinse and repeat. Age of Conan tried to change that, but IMO it's not all that different (and was not fluid/reactive at all).
Movement should have a bigger importance in combats (not just "move from there, the boss will throw something because he always do"), I'd like to see an action/combo based fighting system (along the line of devil may cry, adapted to online game ofc), movements similar to fast fps (quake, ut), and rpg elements (traditional quests, skills, stats, gear, etc...), open skill system (T4C style, as long as you got prerequisite, stats or skills or w/e, you can have any skill/spell in the game using some currency (points), and THAT defines your class, not some template).
I went off subject a bit, sorry. Anyway PvE.
I definitely would as I dont PvP that often in the MMO's I do play unless thats a focus of the game such as in Aion or Warhammer Online. Now if they were to make a PvE only server on Aion I would probably switch to it and I bet that server would be the most popular server they had. As a casual players these days, I dont see the enjoyment of a level 50 player ganking my level 30 toon while I am out soloing.. When I feel the need to kill other players I will play an DoD:S, codmw2, tf2, or some other fps game.

I think the main reason I enjoy PVE versus PVP is because, to be successful in PVP, you have to spend a lot of time thinking about your chosen character, learning the ins and outs of the game mechanics, and learn to use that character well.
PVE doesn't require as much thought. You go out into the field or into the dungeon, ready your weapon, and fight. Either you kill the monster, or it kills you.
I don't play video games to give myself a second job (essentially what PVP becomes if you take it seriously), I play them to get away from my real life. To escape into the world of whatever game I'm playing.
It sounds so geeky, but I guess since I'm on an MMOG website, that doesn't matter much. I'll often do a personal roleplaying type deal with my characters in whatever game I'm playing. I know it isn't an MMOG, but since it's the best example I can think of, I'll use it. When I play Mass Effect, I'll mouth out the words Shepard is speaking as if I'm the one saying them. It gives me the chance to not be me for a while. I like that.
Sure as long as the game had good content and regualr content updates, that kept the game fresh, I can get board with pvp pretty fast, and always hated games that had only pvp at end game, I like options, both pve and pvp, but I could play pve only if the story line was good enough..
I'm a "pvp-ish carebear", as in i like to pvp but only when i choose to. I do love more the pve part of most mmos tho, but i would not play a 100 PVE game, as in no sieges or any sort of battlegrounds.
